8 Mobile Device gives you two flip-up touchscreens

Because one touchscreen isn’t enough anymore for mobile phones users, two Korean designers, Kyung-Ryul Lim and Miyeon Kim, came up with a new concept handheld communication device that is equipped with two flip-up touchscreens. They feature video, telephone, dictionary and lots of other specifications.

The communication device was dubbed “8” due to its 8 shape frame, and helps the user move dual touchscreens. The functionality of “8” won’t be the same as you move the dual touchscreen, and the feature is said to bring out special feelings from the users.
Kyung Ryun Lim and Miyeon Kim design moving parts: “The mobile phone has dual touchscreen and 8 shape frame which help to move dual touchscreen. Moveable dual touchscreen is easy to use and has various functions according to its shapes. It can be used as an electronic dictionary by moving touchscreen and can be used to displayphone”.

But, I don’t know, the portable device seems a little bit too long for something that theoretically, just theoretically, should fit in your pocket. Not to mention the fact that the whole idea of having the screen show what you type near the virtual keyboard you’re using seems to be a very difficult task for the users’ eyes. Moreover, let’s suppose the strong are indeed strong enough not to break off in your pocket, as they’re able to lock down into the device, but the question is if there are enough programs and uses for these moving parts. Moreover, if this were produced in numbers that made them inexpensive enough to be a “standard” phone, I’m not sure how many of you would choose it over the other “basic” models.

Still, it seems that such devices are more and more in the designers’ minds, as not long ago appeared another similar device, the Pantech Flame phone-frame concept. This handset was created by Jung Woo Baik and is a pretty cool idea that was dressed up in a very neat-looking outfit. The foldable camera phone can be placed like a flip calendar on your desk or it can be used as your average digital frame. The Pantech Flame is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera which is placed on the front side of the phone, near the keyboard and it allows you to take really great photos for you to display on your “frame”.

I’m not sure there is a market for such devices, so all we can do is to just wait and see what happens. Though, I hardly see this eccentric phone going into production. Not very soon, at least.
