A GPS phone based on the Windows Mobile 6.1 software

It seems that more and more mobile phones developed these days are based on the Windows Mobile platform. It’s not just my opinion, I’m sure it’s not, but what would you think if the great majority of the devices that you run into every day ran on the Windows Mobile software? A simple coincidence? I don’t really think so.

Mio, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of a wide variety of mobile devices, has just announced the Mio Explora K70. Not only the Explora is the first 3.5G GPS phone that the company has ever released, but it is also based on the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. When looking at the pictures, you’ll be able to discover a very simple device, with a stylish silhouette. And you’ll be happy to know that Explora isn’t just a pretty face, being equipped with an impressive list of nice features.
As for the specs, the device comes with the following: a quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), a tri band HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity (850/1900/2100 MHz), a 3.5 inch TFT touchscreen display with a resolution of 240x400 pixels, a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and geotagging, Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity with A2DP, USB 2.0 and a rotation sensor. Now let’s breathe in, breathe out, for a while.
And here we go again. It also comes with a 256MB ROM, 128MB RAM, Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz processor and a microSD/SDHC cards slots. Measuring 115x61.5x11.9 millimeters and weighing 115 grams, the battery provides up to 4 hours of GPS usage time, up to 4.5 hours of talk time and up to 200 hours of stand-by time.
That’s all folks, ‘cause the information about pricing and availability about this handset, based on the Windows Mobile 6.1 software, is still unknown.
