An eco-friendly cellular phone charger released by Carphone Warehouse

It was yesterday when I told about a brand new concept developed by the GSMA that gathered no more than 17 cell phone makers and operators (the most famous in the whole world) in order to introduce in the market the universal phone chargers.

This is a very good idea and there’s no doubt about it. But, up until 2012, when the implementation is expected to be finished, there’s another company that has just announced the release of an Eco Charger which is designed to be used with several Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson mobile phone. Besides the great advantage of being compatible with the brands I mentioned above, the charger is also eco-friendly. Aimed at reducing the amount of energy that a mobile phone usually needs in order to fully charge, the Eco Charger “shuts down” as soon as your device has its battery all charged and ready to go, if I may say so.

Some estimates have been made and they revealed the fact that if British mobile phone users would make use of the Eco Charger, an impressive amount of electricity, measured at approximately 300,000,000 KWh, would be saved every year. And when you think that this amount is the equivalent of £85 million!

This eco-friendly cellular phone charger is expected to start selling starting March 3rd, 2009, in Carphone Warehouse stores, and will retail a price of £22.29.
