The BlackBerry Pearl 8100 is another interesting smartphone made by the BlackBerry manufacturer, a handset which attracts many customers with its “candy-stick” design. As we know, this BlackBerry Pearl smartphone, like all other BlackBerry models, is designated for those business people who want to have in their pocket a practical mobile phone with a lot of features capable to manage several tasks at the same time.
In terms of design, the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 looks great. There is no doubt that this BlackBerry Pearl smartphone is one of the smallest units made by BlackBerry. With only 107 x 50 x 14.5 mm in dimensions and 89.5 grams in weight, the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 feels very comfortable. The front side is occupied by a 2.2 inches TFT display and a SureType keyboard. Under the display you will find the classic Call and End keys, a Back button and a menu key. An attractive feature of this BlackBerry Pearl Smartphone is that it comes with a TrackBall instead of a D-Pad. This TrackBall is very easy to use and you will be able to navigate in the menu quickly. On the sides you will find some “Convenience Keys” which include a voice dialing key and a camera shutter. Anyway, you can change the functions of these keys as you wish. On the sides you will also find two volume keys, a headphone socket and a miniUSB port.

Even if this BlackBerry smartphone doesn’t have a QWERTY keyboard, it comes equipped with a SureType keyboard, very responsive and with a nice aspect. The keys have good sizes and offer a great positive feedback when they are pressed so you can easily write on them. Because it has small dimensions, some keys have double or even triple duties. As we said, above the keyboard, the BlackBerry Pearl comes with a 2.2 inches TFT display. It has a native resolution of 240 x 260 pixels and supports 65K colors. For a smartphone like this one, such a display is excellent. The images are clear, even if the colors are not some of the best. For taking photos, this BlackBerry Pearl smartphone comes with an integrated 1.3 Megapixels camera which is capable of taking pictures at a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels. Armed with a LED flash, autofocus and many other custom settings, this camera will offer you good quality pictures, enough for you to immortalize special moments. A negative aspect which makes this camera a bit mediocre for a smartphone is that it lacks video-recording.

If you are worried about connectivity, we can say that the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 comes only with the most popular connectivity features. Even if it lacks Wi-Fi, 3G and GPS, it has enough resources to keep you in touch with your friends every time. Being a Tri-Band device, it supports GSM, GPRS and EDGE networks. For other connectivity options, it comes with Bluetooth, miniUSB and a microSD card slot. In the standard package, this mobile phone comes with a Li-Ion 900 mAh battery, capable of keeping the device on for almost 4 hours of conversation and up to 360 hours in standby mode.
In conclusion, we can only say that the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 is another great smartphone made by BlackBerry manufacturer, a handset which, even if doesn’t have a lot of high-end features, is capable to satisfy your basic needs. For only $179, this mobile phone seems to be very popular.
