Phones Powered by Walking

Working based on the kinetic energy, the new external charger released by M2E Power is designed to provide power to your cell phone, digital camera or portable media player, by converting the motion produced when you are walking into electric energy.
M2E Power designs renewable energy and uses a patent-pending technology to power mobile gadgets while carried with you on the go.

According to the company’s tests, if you walk or drive for 6 cumulated hours you’ll power your cell phone with about 30-60 minutes of talk time.
This smart technology takes advantage of a fundamental change in magnetic architecture within electronic devices, which permits more electricity to be generated from micro-motion. It is a combination of energy generation architecture integrated and energy storage (battery) components.
Compared to other systems using kinetic energy, the one developed by M2E Power provides with 300%-700% more power.

Of course, the main market sector that will benefit from this innovative idea will be the military, while additional uses would be for Personal Data Assistants, portable DVD players, cordless phones, 2-way radios, portable game players, dog collars, flashlights, hearing aids, iPod accessories, rechargeable batteries, watch Batteries and animal tracking.
Another aspect is that this type of self-powered energy is environmental-friendly as it uses much fewer toxic substances, reducing toxic waste in landfills.

“Our technology boosts the efficiency of magnetic induction, leading to a series of key innovations that produce a dramatic increase in power generation within a small footprint,” said David Rowe, President of M2E Power. “This significant leap in energy production allows us to comfortably serve a large, meaningful variety of electronics and accessories with an eco-friendly alternative. This includes offering our first commercial application – the world’s only external charger that generates its own electricity by converting the energy of normal everyday motion.”

X Tones Replacing Beeps

To spare you of those annoying beep sounds received on the cell phone when the other person’s credit is almost finished, Russians came up with a cool idea of replacing these sounds with melodies or comic messages. This new service is called Hello, or Privet in Russian, and is based on the X-tones RBT, a result of the collaboration between VimpelCom, Ericsson and Bercut.

"Abundant experience and our technologies enable us to integrate optimal solutions into customer's business processes. A striking example is the installation of X-tones at VimpelCom. The solution was launched in the network of the telecom holding company, whose subscriber base exceeds 52
million subscribers," says Vladimir Filipyev, Chief Client Relations Officer at Bercut.

What is VimpelCom? –It is a Russian telecommunication operator using wireless, fixed and broadband technologies, with companies operating in Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Georgia and Armenia. The Beeline brand is a wireless subsidiary of the telecommunication operator.
Bercut supplies IT products for Value-Added Services infrastructure of Mobile and PSTN operators.

The first Russian cities that welcomed this cool Hello service on July 1 are: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ivanovo, Kostroma, Tver, Vladimir, Ryazan, Tula, Stavropol, Pyatigorsk, Krasnodar, Ekaterinburg, Saratov and Rostov-on-Don.

The X-Tones are Ring Back Tones with which you can assign a ring back tone melody or a voice message to your incoming beep sounds, create and edit melody list, set rules for melody playback according to time and date, record personal voice messages, view statistics and manage content, and manage the service via web, SMS and other interfaces.

I am not sure if I would enjoy listening to a nice melody instead of a annoying beep sounds, because a melody would surely last longer and is based on several sounds that surely last longer than a beep.

Cell Phone Rental

If you have planned to travel to China between August 8 and 24th for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, you might be interested to know how to get a cell phone package including low-cost national and international calls, comprehensive city guides, GPS navigation, a camera so you to bring back the special moments with you, wireless Internet access and emergency assistance.
The company providing such a cool and complete package is Yoyoor, a cell phone rental and travel assistance service destined to English speakers coming to China. You could get it from the Beijing International Airport or order it from anywhere in the country, for personal delivery.

Using a dedicated button on the phone you can access a live support in English to ask for information related to travel directions, restaurant recommendations, entertainment ideas, and transportation.
This service is very useful because only 30% of the cell phones available in North America and Europe work on the Chinese territory and those telecommunication companies that do offer support ask for high rates for calling, messaging and access to data. To offer the best alternative, Yoyoor gives you access to all these 3 important services for $3.99 per day.

In addition to this, the Chinese company has a special offer for visitors that plan to stay in the country for a longer period of time, and provides a rate of $0.20/minute for calling while diverting all incoming calls to the cell phone used in China. Extra charges are of $8 for the activation and $0.25 saily service fee for the Travel-lite package.
The offer includes a Nokia 6110 Navigator smartphone with GPS, A-GPS, high-resolution built-in camera and multimedia player among others.

Cell Phone Backgrounds

To personalize our gadgets we use to add cool backgrounds on computers' desktops, or change the cell phone interface’s theme entirely. Many cell phone content providers offer nice cell phone backgrounds, wallpapers or themes, for download directly on the handset, but now we have the chance to browse through unique images created by independent designers.
This happens via mixtART, a new SMS service launched by Hands-On Mobile, one of the top developers of games and applications for the cell phones.
Using this service, artists can sell their creations to mobile subscribers.

“More and more independent artists are discovering the benefits of digital media to promote their art to the public, and mobile delivery is the perfect opportunity for them to share their work with a vast, diverse audience,” said Michael Temkin, Chief Technology Officer of Hands-On Mobile. “The artists we are currently working with have exemplary portfolios, and we are looking forward to offering additional creative wallpapers to mobile customers on a monthly basis.”

Artists who will provide cell phone backgrounds through mixtART will be present at Comic-Con International 2008 in San Diego from July 24 to July 27. Some of them are: Patrick Ma, Buff Monster, Jon Burgerman, Brent McHugh, Patricio Oliver, Alex Pardee, Ekundayo and Dave Correia, Noferin and Astro.
Comic-Con International is a nonprofit educational organization that promotes comics and similar forms of art, via the official conventions dedicated to the contribution of comics in art and culture.

Californian company Hands-On Mobile is known for its Guitar Hero III Mobile and WPT Texas Hold 'Em games, as well as the popular Astrology Zone Premier and Billboard Mobile applications. The company partners with entertainment brands such as Activision, Billboard, CBS, LEGO, Marvel, NBA, NBC Universal, Viacom, and World Poker Tour.

The price for an artistic wallpaper is of $1.99.
