Cheap touchscreen phones from Alcatel – OT-707 and OT-800

The mobile phones manufactured by Alcatel, a company headquartered in Paris, France, are most of the times entry-level ones, with basic features, which makes them, of course, affordable devices. This is why the new OT-707 and OT-800 couldn’t be an exception to this rule, even if they come with some interesting features.

What makes them both two interesting appearances, consists of some specs that you most probably wouldn’t have expect to find on their board. Therefore, Alcatel OT-707 is the first ever Alcatel handset to come with a touchscreen display, while the other one, the OT-800, is the first to be equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard.

Now, the first one, the OT-707, looks quite good and is being perfect for people who want a touchscreen phone, but who don’t have an impressive budget for such an acquisition. The features include: a dual band GSM/GPRS connectivity (900/1800 MHz), a 2.3 inch TFT touchscreen display with a resolution of 240x320 pixels and 262k colors, Bluetooth connectivity with A2DP,a 1.3 megapixel camera, music player and FM radio, an internal memory of only 10MB and a microSD card slot for expandable capacity storage of no more than 2GB.

Measuring only 95x53x13 millimeters, the phone provides up to 8 hours of talk time and up to 350 hours of stand-by time. As far as the price is concerned, the OT-707 is expected to be sold under a price of no more than 100 Euros (approximately $126).

Alcatel OT-800, on the other hand, comes with a full QWERTY keyboard, a tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity (900/1800/1900 MHz), a display with a resolution of 320x240 pixels and 262k colors, Opera Mini, a 2 megapixel camera and FM radio with RDS. It measures 111x58x14 millimeters. The retail price is expected to be similar to the other device.

In both cases, the information about the availability is unknown, but the cheap touchscreen phones coming from Alcatel should go on sale in the next couple of months.

Alcatel OT-I650 has a built-in G sensor

Alcatel mobile phones fans must be a little bit disappointed by the fact that the company isn’t what you can call a prolific company as far as the novelty and the promotion are concerned. But the latest handset expected to come out under this brand surely deserved a bit of our attention. This means that Alcatel is still hanging around, if you dared to think otherwise!

Maybe you won’t be able to say much about this brand new device by only looking at the design, but there are some features that worth mentioning. Called Alcatel OT-I650, the phone is an entry-level one that comes equipped with a G-sensor (you might know it as an accelerometer). The whole idea of including this is to help the user to handle the phone more easily. This way, switching between applications – like music player, games, alarm – will be a piece of cake from now on. The only thing you have to do is simply shake the phone, which means that the handset has some sort of a Shake Control function, similar to lots of Sony Ericsson phones. There is no doubt about the fact that the shake control feature will prove itself to be very useful when playing games.

Besides the shake control function, the OT-I650 is also a sporty device, as it integrates a pedometer that helps you keep a count of every stop.

Alcatel OT-I650 is a candybar manufactured by TCL Communication Technology, a Chinese company that produces Alcatel cell phones instead of the French-based Alcatel, which is now part of the Alcatel-Lucent joint venture.

Other specs of the new Alcatel phone that should be taken in consideration include: a music player, FM radio, Bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera, flashlight, a talk time of up to 12 hours and stand-by time of up to 30 days (which sounds pretty amazing, right?).

Alcatel OT-I650 will first be available in Russia, in two colors (black and orange) and can be purchased for an amount of 3,190 Russian rubles. That’s about $120, so the phone is quite cheap. There are no words on the availability of the handset in other parts of the world.
