BIC Phone
Posted by: Sierra in bic
Surprisingly, the BIC company, famous worldwide for its small shaving products, has launched in France a new type of product that has nothing in common with the specific of BIC. It is a cell phone called the BIC Phone, and will be available at Orange with a plan containing 60 free minutes for the first 2 month, and at a low price of just 49 EUR.

The model is developed by TCL, a manufacturer that sells its cell phones under the Alcatel brand.
While BIC's products have the image of low cost quality objects, Orange said that in this case, we are talking about a cell phone backup and not one of the prepaid disposable phones. The idea is strengthen by the price.

At this price, BIC Phone comes with a pay as you go prepaid mobicarte refill card, and was designed to meet the basic requirements of a mobile user who doesn’t need complex functionalities. It can be used for sending and receiving text messages, making calls, and listening to FM radio tunes.
It doesn’t have web browser or media player built-in, and not even a camera, but the battery allows users to talk for up to 4 hours or keep it in standby mode for up to 240 hours. The phone measures 98 x 44 x 12.6 mm and weighs 61 grams.

These specs suggest that the BIC phone model might be destined to older people that don’t have enough patience to learn all the new technologies and to understand the complexity of a mobile handset, and it would be a nice phone for children as well. Anyway, this depends on how friendly was the user interface designed, but we'll know more after the launching when both companies will publish the full specification list.
People in France will find it starting September in tobacco shops, newsstands, train stations, airports, and other local convenience stores, in citrus orange and lime green colors. Let’s say it is a good cell phone backup solution.
