I’m sure you had to attend many video conferences in the past and it always had to happen something that needed your attention. You had to write an email or an IM, but you couldn’t, because there was another task that you needed to accomplish.

The Diploid Phone, created by designer Tao Ma, is a cell phone that will certainly solve your problems, because it is equipped with two different screens. One of them allows you to watch a movie, for example, to browse the web, if you like, or to be part of those video conferences that get you bored you to death, while the second is able to do whatever you want it to do.

The Diploid Phone comes with two cameras, with touchscreen interaction games, with the possibility to display 3D content and to view e-Books just like in reality. This means you’ll be able to turn the page using the two screens.

Great concept, isn’t it? Too bad it’s just a concept.

So here we have the latest creation of designer Joong-Ho Choi, which is a beautiful concept that is known under the name of Easter Moai cell phone. Two of the most important and interesting features consist of the touch sensitive LCD display and the rather peculiar placement of the function keys, which are all placed on the corner edge of the phone.

This ingenious key layout gives the possibility for a bigger display to be implemented. As you can easily see for yourselves, the Easter Moai is equipped with a dock which has integrated speakers. This way, you’ll be able to use it not only as a phone, but also as a portable music player.

The Easter Moai is a quite good-looking cell phone that people would really like to see in the shelves as soon as possible, but I wouldn’t advise you to put your hopes too up. It is a concept phone and I assume it will stay this way, at least in the near future.

The G9 mobile phone, created from scratch by designer Ichiro Iwasaki, is a cell phone that people can use everywhere. And when I say everywhere, I mean any place of the earth. It’s a slider that is equipped with frame that is made of stainless steel and is exchangeable. In addition, it has slanted keys and three finishes that can be customized.

You can easily observe the large display, which is, of course, an LCD, that is characterised by both a minimalistic and a sophisticated design, the “double keypad” layout that has a quite interesting design and a stylish and elegant dock.

As usual, because we’re talking about a concept phone, just like many others that we have seen before, we shouldn’t get too excited about the G9, because I don’t see it coming out very soon. Maybe the idea is alright with many companies, but they have their path very well established already, and it would be difficult for the concept to become reality.

This is why music-centric cell phones are exactly what the doctor ordered for those who find their comfort in listening to their favorite tracks. And here we have a brand new concept that was especially designed for music enthusiasts. The phone is known under the name of Ondo and it was created by Pilotfish, “a progressive industrial design and product development studio” that is headquartered in three important cities of the world, Munich, Amsterdam and Taipei.

This is just a concept, for the moment, and it’s in fact a dedicated music editing phone concept. From now on, people can enjoy an entirely different music experience, as they have the possibility to benefit an interactive capture and editing of sounds.

Ondo is all made of flexible materials that are all form-sensitive, and allows the user actually bring changes to recorded sounds. And if you want to know how you can do this, let me tell you that you don’t have to do anything besides twisting and bending the phone. This way, you can not only hear, but also feel the musical effects of your creation.

There are three display “sticks”, all of them being removable. “In their normal state, the ‘sticks’ act as a unified touch display for the mobile device. When removed, each can be separately clipped onto a musical instrument or person to capture live sound. Like a portable recording studio, Ondo makes mixing tracks easy, because each ‘stick’ picks up isolated sounds from each individual instrument”.

And guess what? As soon as you finish your creation, when the inspiration has done its job, you can make your friends and family a surprise, by sharing with them what you’ve created. The only thing you have to do is to just send the recording via MMS.

As I said before, Ondo is a concept, but it seems that the technology that such a device would require would become available in the “near future”. We don’t know when, but we’re looking forward for editing music for ringtones based on our own imagination.

While waiting for the new iPhone release, we can enjoy ourselves with concepts that are meant to help us forget a little bit about it and make the waiting somehow pleasant. Not to mention the fact that some of these concepts look actually pretty good.

So, let’s welcome a newcomer that was created by designer Adam Hutchinson. The phone was called “iPhone Magnet” due to the fact that the most impressive feature on its board is a magnetometer. I’m not sure whether the designer agrees with the name, but let’s call it this way for the moment.

As far as the features are concerned, this iPhone concept comes with a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, an integrated mirror, a frontal video camera, video voicemail, a magnetometer which is nothing but a digital compass, meant to increase the gaming experience, the changing-color home button which is designed to alert you of the new messages that you receive and of the notifications and an internal memory of 32GB.

The main disadvantage of the iPhone Magnet is that it’s just a concept for the moment and chances are pretty high for never hitting the mass production. Unfortunately.

But now I do, because I made some research (it wasn’t difficult, a simple Google search made it all) and I found that the word is actually an acronym coming from Lifestyles of Health & Sustainability. More than that, LOHAS is an entire market segment that has its focus on aspects like health, fitness, the environment that people seem to be so very interested in these days, personal development, sustainable living and social justice.

You might wonder now what in earth LOHAS has to do with a green cell phone. But it has and you’ll see how. For those who adhere to LOHAS, here’s a concept phone that you will surely be interested in: the Aqua Liquid. Designed by Sean Park, the green cell phone is based on liquid fuel cells, which makes it an eco-friendly device.

The phone is made of recyclable components and I’m sure you’re happy to know that once your handset becomes history you can recycle it. In addition, the display uses the E-Ink technology, which helps you save not only battery life, but also talk time.

Unfortunately, the Aqua Liquid is just a concept for the moment.

Here is a brand new concept, created by the Parisian designer Fabien Nauroy (who is, in fact, a student in Industrial Design), that looks quite nice, as you can see in the pictures. This could be, indeed, a dreaded competitor for Apple’s iPhone.

According to the designer, this beautiful Nokia concept is inspired by paper mail. And if you don’t really understand how in earth the phone is inspired by paper mail, give me the chance to explain. It seems that the screen is detachable. How? Well, you can detach it from its body. It’s just like when receiving a letter and trying to take the paper out of the envelope. Something like that.

On the other hand, the handset’s screen is based on a very well-known technology, the electronic ink one. Therefore, if you want to share something with your loved ones, you can do this by simply detaching the display. You don’t have to worry about the storage, because the display is based on a memory stick of no more, no less than 4GB.

In addition, the screen can also be used for displaying photo just like on a photo frame. You just have to connect the handset to a small USB base. And the last best thing is that the Nokia concept comes with a full keyboard in AZERTY layout.

In the given context, let me tell you about a concept phone created by Manuel Irritier in collaboration with the ArmadaQuadrat team. These guys came up with a very simple mobile phone aimed at people who are convinced that the main characteristic of such a device should consist of letting the user communicate with his dear ones. Because we’re tempted to forget the reason why the cell phone was invented in the first place.

So, if you don’t need features like a camera, email, Internet or SMS, all stuffed in your mobile phone, then the Simplicity Phone is the perfect alternative, being a normal device that one can use only for receiving and making calls. The only reminiscence of the modern technology is the touchscreen display, but the designers have a very good reason to stick with it: the fact that is more user-friendly.

As you can easily see, the design is very simple and comes in a flip form with a digital clock placed on its cover, to help you always keep track of time. Being so simple, the device shouldn’t cost too much, so another great advantage would be its affordability. Still, the Simplicity Phone is just a concept for the moment.

So, if you’re one of those lucky people and you find in the situation that your phone refuses to work, you can always count on the Freedom 2010 phone.

The solution for travelers and for those who hate the high-end devices available on the market, the phone comes with 60, 100 or 200 minutes. In addition, you don’t have to worry about Roaming tarrifs or about all sorts of prefixes your mind can’t remember under any circumstances. But the good news doesn’t end here. There’s no need for a SIM card, there are no roaming charges, and, best of all, the Freedom 2010 has a charging time of only 10 minutes. Spectacular, right? Not to mention the fact that the information you need, like the phone number or important services, are being kept on the back of the phone.

One last advantage refers to the portability of the Freedom 2010, due to its tiny silhouette. I’m sure that the device managed to win you over, but, unfortunately, this is a concept phone that might never reach the mass production.

If you’re familiar with such devices, which usually belong to limited editions, coming with not-so-very affordable prices, then you must know about the Aston Martin or Ferrari cell phones that managed to create sensation around these companies. It’s a matter of fashion and trends, rather than a commercial strategy, if you ask me, but this is my humble opinion.

Anyway, the point is that if your name is Audi and you’re a car manufacturer, then you are entitled to have a secret desire like having a handset of your own. And guess what? You don’t have to waste a lot of time trying to find someone to conceive the handset that you’ve been dreaming about, because designer Sergio Gedanke made your mission a whole lot easier. He came up with a brand new device, the iTT, which combines a classic design with stylish-sporty accents coming straight from cars that people all know very well, like Audi TT and Audi A8.

The designer explained the reason why he chose Audi over other similar companies: “The Audi brand is a well-respected and trusted product in the automotive world. The iTT concept phone is a result of exploring Audi’s form vocabulary on a handheld device such as a cell phone”. The black and silver combination strengthens the idea of durability and elegance, while the red main menu button, placed in the center of the silver fascia, is the spot color that endows the device with life.

“The iTT phone incorporated similar materials and finished found on the roadster TT and the high-class A8 model. User-interface is also similar to current trends in both automotive interiors and handheld devices such as trackballs and backlit customizable keyboards. The innovative tilting screen allows easy reading during driving”.

Quite ingenious, isn’t it?
