T3’s 01 Phone Concept is a device so very close to perfection

The countdown has begun for a new smartphone that should soon compete with other similar devices, such as iPhone, Nokia N96, Samsung Innov8 and any other smartphone that will ever dare to hit the market in the future. It’s called the 01 Phone and it’s preparing to launch within a month or so.

The device is actually the result of T3’s collaboration with The Alloy and their quest for the perfect mobile phone in a world that seems to be too crowded. Their campaign was to create the world’s most perfect mobile phone (please excuse the pleonasm), or at least a device so very close to perfection. Another purpose was to turn into reality a phone suitable for each and every one of us, no matter how our bank accounts look like. This initiative received the popular vote, as the T3 readers had the chance to express their opinions on what they wanted to see in the T3-designed handset. Therefore, the concept design is based on the suggestions of the general public, stuffing inside all sorts of features that people usually appreciate on a ground-breaking smartphone.

The 01 Phone is equipped with a 5.0 megapixel camera, a mini phone placed at the back. This mini phone can be used as a standalone handset or you can even wrap it around the wrist. IN addition, there’s a customizable keyboard that hides two wireless earphones underneath it. The flexible mini phone which one can strap around the wrist can also be kept in the pocket, working like any other ordinary phone. It makes and receives calls, and when you’ve done all that, you can lock it into the back of the 01 Phone. As far as the keyboard is concerned, the phone has a sliding QWERTY accompanied by a brand new multi-touch stylus that looks like a compass. The stylus is designed to make the iPhone-style pinching a whole lot easier.

The laser virtual keyboard is gone and its place was taken by a fully-customizable contextual keyboard which changes its lighting pattern and key display depending on the program in use at the moment. Go for gaming and bright green glow plus classic gaming controls, or enter the GPS mode for purple glowing commands specific to navigational purposes. You’ll also be able to enter the audio mode (red glow) which allows you to access audio controls and a texting/SMS mode with a useful T9 keypad.

This concept phone is rumored to hit the shops some day, so it won’t remain just another concept phone. For more pictures and information on the T3’s 01 Phone, visit T3’s website.

Dual SIM XH-M025 TV Mobile Phone

Being targeted to all of you out there who are business people and music lovers, the Dual SIM XH-M025 TV mobile phone is a device which looks actually awkward. The guys behind its design came up with a very weird-looking mobile phone, having the form factor somehow inspired by Nokia, but it’s nowhere close to Nokia’s creations. Even if this phone is good enough to compete - successfully - with other devices for the weirdest ever TV mobile phone created, the long list of technical specifications might impress you instead.

But the XH-M025 really knows how to work it. The two SIM cards are simultaneously active for your call needs, whether they’re for business or personal purposes. In addition, there are not two, but three loudspeakers in the back: two 2030 speakers plus one 20 shaking speakers. The phone is also provided with a 3-inch touchscreen with Touch Lens LCD / 2.8-inch with Touch Panel LCD, Bluetooth, FM Radio with double camera with 3.0-inch display and two 300K pixel CMOS resolutions digital cameras (can update to 1.3 megapixel resolutions digital camera) each in frond and back side.

As far as the frequency is concerned, there’s a GSM900 / DCS1800 auto shift (900/1800 or 900/1900 optional). The internal memory supported is of 1GB, while there’s also a possibility for you to expand the capacity storage through a flash card. The 1500mAh Li-Ion battery provides a talk time of up to four hours.

The package includes the battery, the charger, a headset, data cable, T-flash, stylus and a user manual. There is no word on price and availability yet.

Graphite concept phone based on the DVB-H technology

You’re a television addict and you don’t allow yourself to miss any chance to watch all sorts of shows, from sports, to soap operas and concerts, maybe news and comedy shows. That’s why you’ll most probably fall in love with the Graphite DVB-H Mobile Phone concept below, a device designed by Jonathan Findlay.

Jonathan Findlay is a Transport and Product designer who graduated from Coventry University in 2008 with a First Class BA (Hons) with professional enhancement. He has a great experience of working with a number of design studios.

The Graphite has the DVB-H technology integrated, so you can watch live digital TV on the move. We’re talking about a 4-way slider running on Symbian S60 user interface. You must have already noticed the superb 3.6 inch AMOLED touchscreen display. The TV phone concept features an active mechanical keypad that appears on pressing the screen and a spring loaded cover that guards the battery, memory card and SIM card.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

Graphite Mobile comes with a 2.5 megapixel camera with autofocus and Xenon flash, 3 dedicated camera shutter/stereo speakers, 4 USB ports and 5 dedicated 3.5 mm audio ports. In addition, there are also a 0.6 MP video camera and an on / off translucent button.

The very good news you’d be happy to hear is that the DVB-H technology based concept phone does look production worthy as all its integrated components are already available in the market.
You are more than used to this type of concept devices that are developed by all sorts of designers, from newcomers to those who are in the business for some time, and the odds of turning them into reality are very encouraging. But who knows?

Futuristic phones for the ladies

Maybe us, women, are more likely to be pretentious as far as the phone devices are concerned, as we’d rather have in our possession subtle mixtures of fashion and technology than not-so-very-good-looking such devices. This comes in a total contradiction with the pragmatism of men, who aren’t interested in those futuristic phones the ladies are so crazy about. So let’s now see what a girl wants, what a girl needs, whatever makes her happy and sets you free.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

For all those women who hate carrying their phones around and would prefer to wear them on their wrists, here it is the Bracelet concept phone which was developed by the Chinese designer Tao Ma for the 2006 Lite On Corporation awards. The phone starts slightly vibrating whenever the shiny bracelet receives a message. If you want to read the text, the only thing you should do is to just take the bracelet of your wrist and press its precious looking keys. It’s a device based on simplicity, therefore it might seem to compromise the display and the controls, which are places on the inner side of the bracelet.

<-125x125 Button - left->
The same designer developed another wacky concept, the Ring-Cellphone, a unique mixture of simplicity and elegance which combines common functions of making or receiving a call. Whenever someone to get in touch with you, you must hold the ring close to your ear and draw the microphone as you use the handset. You must agree that, no matter how exigent you might be, the ring-cellphone is very cool to use and it’s the perfect expression of the most advanced communication ideas.

But look at this one too! It is surely a fashion accessory for ladies else it wouldn’t look so sexy, fashionable, haute couture, whatever you might want to call it. Moreover, when something is shaped like a clam or a little box to help you powder your nose, that certain something surely is a ladies’ accessory. The device also features a camera, which I’m pretty sure can record video and have at least a 3 megapixel resolution. As far as the keys are concerned, they are placed in a circular pattern and if I were to take a lucky guess, the middle segment is a touchpad. Notice the tiny external display which is probably used for incoming calls and text messages.

Yw Li, the designer who developed this clam-like clamshell concept phone, also created a fancy device that can be worn like a precious purse or bracelet, due to a long and probably golden chain. Even if it seems like an easy-to-wear phone, you should pay a special attention to matching your phone with the dress, necklace or other accessories. The handset is surrounded by pearls, so in case the chain gets any looser, you might be able to wear it as a necklace. There is no word on technical specifications, but if this flip phone with nice large display meets realism, it’s sure to impress ladies.

Does Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel ring a bell? It might not, but if I told you to say a few words about Coco Chanel, you will immediately remember the pioneering French fashion designer whose modernist philosophy, menswear-inspired fashions, and pursuit of expensive simplicity made her an important figure of the twentieth century fashion. Based on one of the world’s most famous brands, Chanel, Fred de Garilhe developed a concept phone that contains a lower sliding part that has the display and the function buttons, and an upper-piece with a numeric pad. When it is not being used, all the user interface contents disappear in order to give you a shiny surface. We still do not have information about this concept phone hitting the mass production, but if it did, the ladies would have another item by Chanel to brag about.

Designer Aleix Ingles Elias created a business female phone, featuring soft shapes, intuitive interface commands and a pad with minimal visual buttons. The handset incorporates a “generous touch display” and a QWERTY physical keyboard, while the shell of the phone has a metallic feel. The keypad is all rubbery and the back of the device is adorned with soft touch black rubber, for a better tactile experience.

What would you say about an iPod in a bangle? Yes, you read it right. An iPod in a bangle. Designer Gopinath Prasana has visualized what could be the iPod of next generation, called the iBangle. It is basically a piece of aluminum with a multi-touch track pad to play music. To achieve the perfect fit, a cushion inside the ring inflates to keep itself taught against your wrist.

Nokia definitely has some of the most interesting and futuristic concept phones. Designed by Tamer Nakisci who won the Nokia Design Award, Nokia 888 Communicator uses liquid batteries, speech recognition, flexible touchscreen and touch sensitive body cover which lets it understand and adjust to the environment. The device can be carried anywhere, in any form. You can roll it, bend it, put it on your clothes like a clip and so on. It has a simple programmable body mechanism so that it changes forms in different situations. Even if the market seems ready for this type of phone, the only thing that’s missing is the courage of Nokia to move it from concept to mass-market commercial product. However, you shouldn’t expect to see the phone in the market soon.

The Benq-Siemens Snaked is a “reptile” looking phone, creepy somehow, which was also exclusively designed for ladies. It is an ultimate symbol for fashion loving women to demonstrate an attitude of pride and consciousness towards the female body by supporting body curves and attract through an emotionally visualized body monitor.

The idea of a cellphone watch is not so new, but the TripleWatch, which was designed by Manon Maneenawa, has an interesting triple flip technique that allows the user to transform the watch into a normal cellphone. When it’s used as a wrist watch, the phone has a speaker button, so the user can answer the phone and hang up while driving.

The Samsung Lavender was developed by Andrew Kim, an amateur 16 year old designer, who worked to this concept phone for nearly six months. The last thing to cross one’s mind is that the Lavender is, in fact, a phone. It’s more like a perfume bottle or a sophisticated jewel that issues a sense of high fashion and elegance. At a first glance, on the other hand, the asymmetrical shape might make you think the image is somehow distorted, but the truth is that precisely the unusual shape is what makes it different from any other phones you have seen before. The Lavender comes with a “Lavender Light” attachment that emits bacteria fighting UV light during charging. During regular usage, the LEDs emit light when the touchscreen is touched. On the other hand, there is a plastic perfume dispenser, which can easily be refilled. In order to activate the spray nozzle you should press on the metal head. Great concept for a 16 year old kid, isn’t it?

Honestly, the notion of making pink versions of every gadget is a little demeaning, don’t you think? Manufacturers expect ladies to bite just because of a small color treatment to devices. It’s true, many of the fairer gender go for style and color, when it comes to choosing a handheld, but these products must have the chops as well. In addition, touchscreens usable with long fingernails and being compact enough to go into a handbag are also bonuses. That’s why these futuristic phones have all the chances to be on your lady’s taste.

Icono phone concept

Would you laugh at me if I asked for your home phone number? I’d bet all my money on the fact that most of you raised your eyebrows, smiling ironically on hearing the name of such an unfamiliar – already – device, even if the times when we were all using isn’t so far off. Despite its wide spreading, the home phone is of long ago forgotten and fell into the collective disgrace.

More and more of us would rather have mobile phones as a means of telecommunications than a house phone which has become a rarity these days. People who move into their homes won’t install a landline since cell phones are way more convenient and cheaper, in some countries, as far as operational costs are concerned.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

Zinc Chan, a London-based designer, believes the home phone still has life in it and if not, he’s confident in its capacity of being resuscitated. This is why he came up with this fun and beautiful means to communicate. You can now forget of that complicated associations you had to remember between those pesky numbers and certain people, because Zinc’s design gives you the chance to draw the associated shape of the person you want to call and the phone listens to your desire, calling the certain person. You might recognize in that shape a constellation map, consisting of merely points of light with numeric assignments.

A pretty confusing phone concept, the Icono is based on the internationally recognized “call me” hand gesture made by pouty-mouthed debutants and Hollywood starlets. By capping your thumb and little finger with a D cell-looking microphone and speaker, the Icono converts your hand into a piece of hardware, leaving it stuck in a position that means “call me”.

“The Icono has created a new experience for the telephone, which is a very traditional product. I have based my design on the iconic hand gesture people use to represent the telephone”, the designer explained. “The handset is divided into two parts, earphone and microphone. This invites the user to use the iconic gesture when using the phone. When the user dials the numbers, an animated path is shown on the touchscreen. Therefore, people start to remember the person by their unique pattern rather than the numbers. This, together with two-piece handset creates a more emotional interaction between the phone and the user”, he added.

Another concept device which, as you already presume, might not ever get to see the light of the day.
