LG Arena, one of the most popular cell phones

A month ago or so (I think it was back in March, if I’m not mistaken) LG made an announcement that was aimed at impressing everyone, from competitors to customers, concerning the LG Arena, a device that wasn’t available at the time in the market. They said that people were very interested in it, so interested that they said something about 1 million pre-orders for the LG Arena.

The surprise came in the context of an introduction that was made in February, which is a month earlier. The fact is that since that moment, other things happened. For example, the LG Arena was brought in the European continent, where it was priced at €399.

And the news is that the LG division from Taiwan made another announcement. They say that approximately 2 million units of the LG handset have been ordered worldwide. This is an astonishing number, you have to admit, and converts the phone into one of the most popular cell phones of this year, joining other devices such as Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and LG Cookie.

What distinguishes the Arena from the other two mobile phones that I’ve just mentioned consists of the fact that it comes with a more impressive features list. In consequence, the price is also a little bit higher, in comparison.

It seems that LG has a very smooth path these days, because they managed not only to sell millions of units of the Arena and Cookie devices, but they also reached to a spectacular amount of QWERTY handsets that were sold since 2005. 20 million. Quite much, right?

LG Viewty phone, the Smart version

When a cell phone manufacturer tries to catch customers’ attention it usually resorts to something unusual, something different, and if it’s possible, that hasn’t been done ever before. As I said, this is what happens most of the times. And you must be accustomed already with being “turned on”, if I may say so, with all sorts of leaked photos, rumors coming from everywhere, more or less justified, unofficial information that becomes official in just a couple of weeks.

This is a behavior that is meant to attract people due to the curiosity provoked by the mystery that surrounds a certain product. And LG knows the shady sides of such a behavior. It has done it with LG KM900 Arena and it does it all over again with the second version of the LG Viewty phone, known as LG Viewty II GC900 which, from now on, will be referred to as LG Viewty Smart GC900.

It’s not official, but the information can be found on an LG Germany blog which is as official as it could be.

LG Rumor phone – exclusively from Sprint

The fact that the second generation of the LG Rumor phone is going to be sold via Sprint was well known by everyone, but what we all wanted to know was if the company will give the phone the official treatment one day. And that day has come.

Released under the name of LG Rumor 2, the device will be exclusively sold by Sprint in the United States, just like the older version. The Rumor 2 is aimed at those customers who are looking for affordable phones and who want to be permanently connected to the world outside.

The features list includes the following: a full QWERTY keyboard (which slides out), a QVGA TFT display with 262k colors, stereo Bluetooth connectivity, MP3 player, 1.3 megapixel camera, Sprint Navigation, which is aimed at enabling voice and on-screen, turn-by-turn directions, Sprint Mobile Email Work which comes with Microsoft Exchange Server and IBM Lotus Notes, additional removable backplate and a microSD card slot of no more than 16GB.

Measuring 4.4 x 2.1 x 0.7 inches and weighing 4.23 ounces, the LG Rumor phone provides up to 5.5 hours of talk time.

The original LG Rumor, launched two years ago, in 2007, became the best selling CDMA cell phone ever sold by Sprint, or at least one of them. This is why the North American carrier has great expectations about the new one.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

“LG Rumor gives customers the benefits of Sprint’s Now Network on a phone that’s attractive and affordable, appealing to anyone who needs the ability to quickly send off a text or PictureMail”, said Kevin Packingham, the senior vice president of Product and Technology Development, at Sprint. “Staying connected to your family, office or even social networks has never been as easy and cost-effective as it is with the pairing of this device and Sprint’s Everything Messaging pricing plan. In today’s economic climate, it is great to know you don’t have to compromise to get a good value in wireless”.

The phone will be available in two color versions, Black Titanium and Vibrant Blue. The first one will start selling on March 15th, while the second one will hit the market on March 29th, both at www.sprint.com. LG Rumor will be found in all Sprint retail channels starting April 19th, for a price of $49.99, after a $50 mail-in rebate. For this to happen, you’ll have to sign a two-year service agreement.
