Neo cell phones were considered to be the world’s smallest until modu came out. Openmoko, the company that provides the cell phone open to developers’ personalization ideas, has just released a new mini cell phone model called Neo FreeRunner, available for purchase starting tomorrow, at OpenMoko online store.
Developers can create mobile applications thanks to the flexible development platform the cell phone comes with, using the Free and Open Source Software and CAD files.



FreeRunner mini cell phone measures 4.75 x 2.44 x 0.73 inches at 185 grams and sports a 2.8-inch large VGA display with touch sensitivity, being powered by an ARM9 processor with 400MHz speeds and 2D/3D graphics acceleration. It has 128MB SDRAM, 256MB NAND Flash, microSD slot to expand the memory, a 2.5 mm audio jack type, GPS external connector, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, A-GPS, GPRS 2.5G, Bluetooth 2.0, and 3-axis motion sensors.



The battery is a 1200 mAh and the package includes also the AC adapter, travel adapters, a laser stylus pen and the USB cable.
The software installed are the Openmoko GNU/Linux, 100% FOSS on CPU and GNU/Linux development tools.



Customers or professionals interested in Neo FreeRunner mini cell phone will have the chance to get a closer look at it in August at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in San Francisco, where OpenMoko will exhibit it.
It has a retail price of $400 and you can get it either from the online shop or from the distributors in European Union, India and North America. To work with different frequencies, it comes in two versions, one supporting 850MHz, and the other 900 MHz Tri-band GSM.

Neo has unveiled the Neo 808i - the new compact phone features a 1.3 megapixel camera, 128MGB of memory, and a microSD card slot.

The Neo 808i is expected to be available next March 2007 and the company anticipates rolling out another 3G mobile phone that will support WiFi connectivity.
