Nokia 3100

Launched in December of 2003, the Nokia 3100 is another simple Nokia handset designed especially for the youth market. This lightweight cell phone is equipped with a color display, a great battery life and several personalization options, all for a price under $50. When it comes to call quality, the Nokia 3100 has poor performances.

The Nokia 3100 sports a slimmed-down design and even if the case seems to be made of cheap plastic, it has proven to be resistant. The candy-bar case is made of plastic and it is available in many combinations of colors so you can choose which one you like. Measuring 102 x 43 x 15 mm in dimensions and 85 grams in weight, this Nokia cell phone feels very comfortable and fits great in any pocket, excellent for a teenager.

The front side of the phone presents a display and a nice numerical pad. This numerical pad is composed by large and responsive keys which are made of some cheap but resistant plastic. The keys are properly delimited so you can easily write SMS. Between the display and the numerical pad several navigation buttons are placed: two soft keys, the call and end keys and a 4-way button. On the sides you will not find any multimedia buttons. Only on the top part a Power On / off button is placed and on the bottom part, a charger port and a headset jack.

When it comes to technology, the Nokia 3100 comes with a short list of features. Being an entry-level cell phone, it comes equipped with a 1.5 inches CSTN display which has a native resolution of 128 x 128 pixels and support for 4096 colors. With such a poor display, the images quality is very low. This Nokia cell phone also lacks a camera so you will not be able to take any photos or record clips. Because it doesn’t have many multimedia functions, the internal memory is also very small. It has only 484 KB of free space, enough space for you to store some polyphonic and monophonic ringtones, wallpapers or screensavers. As we said at the beginning of this review, the Nokia 3100 can disappoint you when it comes to call quality and features. It is a Dual-Band device (GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900) and comes with support only for GSM and GPRS. Even if it has only these connectivity features, you will be able to keep in touch with your friends by making calls, sending SMS or MMS. It also comes with support for WAP 1.2.1, JAVA, clock, alarm, organizer and other standard functions. The sound quality is another aspect dignified for an entry-level mobile phone. The external speaker offers clear sound with a medium volume, while the ear-speaker offers good conversation sound.

The battery life of this phone is assured by a Li-Ion 850 mAh battery. This battery manages to keep the phone on for up to 6 hours of conversations and up to 410 hours in standby mode. With all these said, we can only say that the Nokia 3100 is a respectable entry-level handset which comes with standard features and a lower price.
