New Nokia application

Ok, maybe the title is a little bit confusing for some of you, but if you just give me a moment I’ll explain and it will all be very clear and, why not, logical. It’s not a new Nokia application as we all understand by “new”, but it’s a brand new version, the latest, of the Ovi Maps, an application that’s been available for some time now.

The Ovi Maps experience will be better from now on, being improved with “additional features and services” that are meant to open up new horizons. These horizons can be translated as a wide variety of choices as far as the maps are concerned, which, according to the Finnish company, are better than ever.

So here is what you can enjoy from now on: satellite and terrain maps at high resolution (you can choose between 2D and 3D views), an impressive number of 200 cities for which you can enjoy the 3D landmarks, rotation, tilting or night view. In addition, you can fly over or through the city you prefer.

You can also have the POI information you need directly on your device, information provided by Lonely Planet, Michelin and Wcities. Other information included refers to weather forecasts (there’s a 24 hour and 5-day service).

Two important features are the WALK, which allows the user to go from a place to another, or the DRIVE, which is a car navigation that comes with increased safety and information about safety cameras and speed limits.

The Ovi Maps application can be accessed on the web and the benefits are precisely the same: the user can search for addresses he wants to find or POIs, can find places, can save those into Favorites, and then, in order to keep things very well organized, he can group them into Collections. In addition, he can check the forecast or preplan the routes irrespective of the way he prefers to travel: by foot or by car. There’s also the possibility for him to synchronize this information between the Ovi Maps that he accesses on the mobile device and the Ovi Maps accessed on the web.

If you’re interested, you can go to the official website and download the latest version of this Nokia application.

Nokia has just made a new announcement that has to do with the so-called Nokia Java Runtime 2.0 (also known as JRT 2.0) that is already available for those devices that run on the Symbian S60 5th Edition operating system. The Java Runtime 2.0 is actually a “totally re-written Java mobile execution environment for Nokia S60 devices”.

This is the beta version of the JRT 2.0 and comes with a bunch of improvements that were designed for a specific purpose: to help users enjoy a more amusing experience when it comes to the games and applications they can find either in Ovi Store or anywhere else.

The enhancements include: the installation of each application is one-click away, the experience of launching an application and the execution performance are both improved.

Another thing that will make users very happy is the fact that the further development and release of the Java Runtime won’t be connected anymore to the S60 releases. This means users will have the possibility to have the latest version on their smartphones using the functionality called Nokia S60 Software Update.

The Nokia Java Runtime 2.0 beta was tested with handsets like Nokia 5800 XpressMusic with the software versions 20.x.xxx and 21.x.xxx and the Nokia N97 with software versions such as 10.x.xxx and 11.x.xxx. So, if you want to download the new JRT 2.0, all you have to do is to just pay a visit to the official website of the Nokia Beta Labs.

Nokia Ovi Store and the Chinese alphabet

I love foreign languages and I have always thought that I’m able to learn whatever language I might want, because there’s something inside me that makes things a whole lot easier. Besides that, I’m a very quick learner when it comes to this area, so it won’t be difficult for me to start the study of a new language. However, with Chinese, for example, I’d like to think the matter twice.

nokia-ovi-store-and-the-chinese-alphabet-01

The Chinese alphabet is too damn complicated and I don’t know if I have enough patience in order to descipher it. But Nokia didn’t think of me when decided to launch the Chinese version of the Ovi Store, but of the 1 billion Chinese people out there that would be happy to hear this news.

<-300x250 Medium Rectagle - center->

The application store is available for the moment in five languages, including English, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish, so the Chinese language will be the sixth on the list. The Finnish company said that the new version is expected to become available during this year, so the Chinese customers will be able to download whatever applications they might like directly on their cell phones.

This is a very good idea, as the Chinese Nokia cell phone users has reached the impressive number of 180 million. This means that chances are pretty high for the Chinese Ovi Store to create sensation.

One of these products and services is Nokia Music Store, which allows users from countries such Australia, Brazil, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and plenty more to come, to purchase the music they like most directly on their cell phones or via PC.

Poland is the next country to benefit the Nokia Music Store, being the first one in the Central-Eastern Europe to be privileged with the service.

So, Polish customers can go to Music.nokia.pl where they can choose from a wide variety of tracks (there are more than 4.5 million songs) performed by both Polish and international artists. It doesn’t matter if you like a certain type of music, you’ll be able to find whatever you like most.

The music available at the Nokia Music Store is provided by the most important labels from all over the world, independent ones also, and there are some special exclusive offers you can enjoy these days. First of all, you can buy the latest album with Moby’s signature on it or you can download the music single called “When love takes over” by David Guetta. And you can do these things before the music I mentioned earlier becomes widely available.

As for the ways of payment, you can buy the music you like either with credit cards or pre-paid vouchers. If you’re interested in only one track, it will cost you PLN 3.49, while the entire album goes to PLN 34.9.
