Nokia N73 Music Edition
Posted by: CameraPhonesPlaza in Nokia
Having a fancy name – Nokia N73 Music Edition, the version tested by us has only one difference from the N73's standard, namely the media key sends us directly to the music player. It is very easy to control the player via the joystick or the remote control of the handsfree. The equalizer has 6 presets - default, bass booster, classical, jazz, pop and rock. The shuffle function has not been forgotten by those from Nokia, so that songs can be played in random order.

The sound played by Nokia N73 Music Edition is characterized by clarity, and not only through a headset. N73’s built-in stereo speakers emit a clear and strong sound, so we can listen to music in good condition in small rooms.

The package in which N73 comes delivered has a handsfree, a data cable, a charger and CDs with the software necessary to connect the phone with the computer. The handsfree consists of two parts. The first part includes a remote control, which can adjust the volume, we can stop and start playing, or go to the next song and at its end, it has a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a microphone. Due to the microphone placement in this location, we can change the headphones with our favorite pair, but at the same time, we can use them for making calls. The second part of the headset consists of a very comfortable pair of headphones. The ability to lock the keys on the remote is a plus and does nothing but to highlight the attention to detail given by the Finnish producer.
Nokia N73 Music Edition is distinguished by the key that sends us directly to media player, where we can open the stereo FM radio, the audio files in MP3 and AAC format, respectively the MPEG4 videos.

It is time to talk about the integrated camera on N73, and I must recognize that I waited for this time since the beginning of the test. The phone comes equipped with two optical sensors, one VGA for video calls and one that has more than 3 Megapixels, perfect for making high quality pictures and videos. If the pictures that can have a maximum resolution of 2048x1536 pixels does not impress, the Carl Zeiss lens present a high interest from the users. The opening of the diaphragm varies between 2.8 and 5.6, very good values (for a cell phone). In addition, the autofocus guarantee success pictures in most situations.

The menu of the camera is displayed in landscape mode and it can be accessed by simply opening the protective cover. At a first look, we notice in the bottom, the number of pictures that we can make and the quality of these pictures. We can save the pictures in the phone's internal memory or on the memory card. On the right side there are 9 icons arranged vertically, with which we can change the settings of the camera. The icons toolbar can be hidden and it appears only when moving the joystick. If a function is selected, after a few seconds will experience a brief description, which can become annoying and which unfortunately can not be disabled.
Switching between camera mode and the video mode is done very quickly in a very short time through a joystick movement. With the help of the Scene modes function, we can use 8 different presets: Auto, Macro, Portrait, Landscape, Sport, Night, Night Portrait and User Settings. Thanks to the large optical sensor, in some cases we do not need the flash, however at night it can be set on automatic, the choice of using it is up to the phone. A useful feature is the reduction of red eye that appears from the use of the flash.
To not miss any opportunity to appear in a picture, the camera has a self timer can be set to 2, 10 or 20 seconds. Activating the Sequence mode function, we can take pictures to the moving objects. If we are not satisfied with the brightness of the photo, but we do not want to use to flash, we can change the exposure time of the diaphragm from the Exposure compensation function.

We must remember the white balance and the color tones settings, useful to reduce the white excess, respectively to customize some pictures. N73 comes with something new (compared to Sony Ericsson K800) – the ISO sensitivity control, which can significantly improve the quality of the pictures.
If on the pictures part we are pretty satisfied, when it comes to video recording, things are not so good. First, the resolution at which N73 records a video is definitely not good, because clips with 352 x 288 pixels we can find at cameras that only have 1.3 Megapixel. The pictures can be stored directly on the memory card, but the videos can not be saved on the external memory so it remains only the internal memory, and when this is exhausted, the recording stops. Even if it is not something essential, the digital zoom (during the video recording) is missing.
The whole Nokia N series uses the Symbian operating system integration. On N73, we find the version 9 of Symbian, the S60 interface that reached its third edition. The navigation speed is quite good, the terminal manages to open large files quickly. We can not talk about any new things, so on the main screen are displayed shortcuts for 6 favorite applications, tasks list, and above those we see the clock, analog or digital. Accessing the main menu is done by pressing the classic Symbian key, and we can choose two ways to view the applications: in the form of large icons, or as a list.
The main applications included in the operating system are the file manager, the organizer with extended functions, an image editor and an image viewer, and not least, a document viewer. However, as we are used to, Symbian opens many possibilities for using a terminal, by supporting a vast collection of applications.

I also noticed the exceptional Web browser that N73 has and the speed with which a site is displayed is really good. One unique thing is the presence of the cursor, which we can control using the joystick, and which can get rid of existing deficits compared with a touchscreen device. The browser retains in the memory of the phone the last visited sites and we have the opportunity to save our favorite sites for viewing them offline. The only drawback noted is that the image can not be displayed in the landscape mode, which would be great considering that we do not have a very large display.
Nokia N73 Music Edition is not a revolutionary phone from any point of view, but it can satisfy a wide range of users, and because of that, we can only say that it is a good choice. If what you are looking for is a mobile that is doing well in all chapters, then N73 is what you need. The 3.2 Megapixel camera, the Symbian operating system, the high speed Internet browsing (because of the 3G support), the clear sound and of course the accommodation with the easy interface places Nokia N73 with a step ahead of the competition. The low operating speed managed to disturb us very much, but the rest of the functions compensate for this, so we can only end in a positive note.
