Nokia 5610

When the first Walkman appeared, Sony has changed the way you listen to music. We now have our favorite music with us all the time. I do not know who had the idea to put a music player on a phone, but all Sony had to say was "it is not enough to have five mp3's" and launched the first phone - Walkman W800i.

With enough memory for music, with a good player and some headphones to match, you do not need to carry two devices when you leave your home because the phone makes them all. All major producers have seen the potential of mobile music and created special editions. Nokia is no exception to the classic series.

Nokia 5610 comes in a box that looks very good. Besides the phone, the box also contains a software CD, a charger, the USB cable and the headphones. The phone is available in two colors, blue and red. It looks great and it is solid. The fingerprints remain quickly on the glossy screen, but this happens to many phones and it is not a critical problem. I did not like the main keys very much, the ones under the screen, because they must be pressed very hard. The number keys are easier to press and are more accurate.

The back of the phone is made of a less common material, slightly abrasive. It will be harder to drop it. However, the camera is very fragile, and can be scratched easily. I do not realize how easily it can be replaced if scratched. The charger plug and the microUSB slot are on the top of the phone. I noticed that Nokia started to put these plugs on the top for some phones and it still seems awkward. For some of the phones they even removed the charger plug, and we must use the microUSB port for this purpose. Nokia 5610 cannot be recharged through the microUSB. Also on the top side, we found a headphone jack, this has only 2.5 mm. As most headphones have a 3.5 mm audio jack, the phone comes with an adapter. Also on the adapter, we find a microphone. If you do not like the standard headphones, you can use yours, together with the same adapter.
I noticed something new to this phone, the NaviSlide key. The key that is just below the screen and can move left - right. Its main role is in the music player, and it has the "back" function in the menus.
Although we criticized the screen for being glossy and fingerprints can be easily noticed on it, when it comes to image quality it must be praised. It has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, comparable to a larger screen. With this resolution and the size of 2.2 inches, the clarity is very good. It is OK even in direct sunlight and the phone can be used without problems.

The menus are easy to use, in the Nokia style. The software is the well-known S40, which reached version 5. The new version is found currently only on some Nokia phones, such as the 6500 classic and 6500 slide.
The new part for me was when I wanted to send an MMS. I was stuck for a couple of seconds, because the only option in the messaging menu is "new message". What type of message? I found out when I got there. The default is SMS, and if you add a picture in it, it turns into MMS. I find it very cleverly. It greatly simplifies things for less technical users. We saw when we began to write a message, that you could force its type (SMS / MMS).

Nokia 5610 is a phone designed for multimedia, especially music. You will not be disappointed, but you will not be delighted either. For music, the phone is super OK. The player works OK, and the sound quality is good. If you do not like the headphones that come along with the phone, you can use your own headphones, along with the 2.5 mm adapter. Maybe it is just a detail, but personally, I like phones that have a 3.5 mm jack directly on the phone, as Nokia N95 has. On Nokia 5610, you will be forced to use the adapter if you want to connect your headphones. The FM radio is also OK, and it even has RDS. The video player works fine, the only thing to mention is that films can be seen in full screen.
As I said earlier, the screen quality is very good and the pictures are very good as well. The camera is much better than I have expected. The photos taken with it are very good for a phone. I made several pictures in natural light, artificial light or worse. I do not think you expect them to be comparable to those made by a digital camera, but I was happy.
The internet browsing experience is reasonable for a cell phone, mainly because of the support for UMTS / EDGE. The integrated browser is reasonable, but I was glad I had Opera Mini preinstalled, which seems better to me. On very complex pages, both applications will have problems. The fault belongs partially to the small internal memory of 20 MB. The phone has an integrated email client that supports POP3, IMAP and SMTP. Receiving and sending emails is very similar to receiving and sending SMS. Nokia 5610 XpressMusic has no infrared, but it has Bluetooth.

The calendar from Nokia is one of the most practical, both in the S40 phones, and in the S60 phones. Nokia 5610 has the best organizer functions. Besides the calendar, it has to-do notes, as well as text notes. From the preinstalled applications, Opera Mini is the most useful one. There are some smaller ones, even some games, but anyway you are going to install whatever you like. The phone is not dedicated to the business environment, so it is not ready for Office type applications. You can probably find some PDF, Word and Excel viewers, but I would not base too much on the phone to change a document and then send it as an email.
Nokia 5610 is a phone, which will satisfy you if you will use it for the things the phone was made: music, radio, pictures and movies. If you want GPS, email, Office applications you must go to another class of phones.
Pluses:
+ It is a good phone for multimedia, and especially for music;
+ The camera is pretty good for a phone;
+ The screen is good.
Minuses:
- It does not excel at Internet surfing, because the browsers are very modest;
- It is not suitable for email or for Office type applications.
