Eos, the new Palm cell phone via AT&T?

Every week is considered to be a cell phone manufacturer’s week, due to the fact that most rumors and stories in this area are somehow related to the specific company. This week, for example, seems to be dedicated to Palm, because the Sunnyvale-based company is in the centre of anyone’s attention these days.

And the culmination is this: there is another handset (the second smartphone, to be more precise) that is said to run on the WebOS. It is called Palm Eos and is only 10.6 millimeters this. But the most important thing of them all is that the smartphone is expected to become available via AT&T, but this isn’t yet official or confirmed.

Engadget is the source that brought us a picture of the so-called Palm Eos, but we don’t know for sure whether it’s true or not. Even if the picture is a little blurry, you can make a first impression about the handset.

The WebOS isn’t the only feature that the phone will come equipped with. It will also have a 2.63 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 320 x 400 pixels, a 2 megapixel camera with fixed focus, flash and video recording capabilities, assisted GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and EDR, microUSB 2.0, music player, video player, SMS, MMS, an integrated IM client and an internal memory of 4GB.

The new Palm cell phone comes with a 1150 mAh battery that provides up to 4 hours of 3G talk time.

Rumors say that the price of the Palm Eos will be $349 before rebates. But it seems that the guys over MobileCrunch have more information at their disposal, as they said that the smartphone will be sold by AT&T for only $99 with a contract agreement.

New case for the Palm Pre phone

The Palm Pre smartphone was one leading products presented at the 2009 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show. Palm Inc. decided to use the event for the release of their two products, that the company was so very proud of, the webOS mobile platform and the Palm Pre.

Maybe you wanted to hear some news about the device right now, not an entire article about Palm Pre accessories that you are not so very interested in. But you can imagine, for example, that you already have your own shiny Palm Pre, that it’s yours and nobody can take it away from you. But when you look at it, you realize how fragile it is and that the shiny aspect will be very difficult to maintain.

This is when you are trying to find a solution. You don’t want it to get scratched, not after waiting so much for it. It seems that Sprint will give you a helping hand, with the release of a holster especially designed for the Palm Pre phone by AGF.

The Palm Pre Holster allows you to have a full view of the phone and you won’t have to remove it from the holster. The idea was to provide a solution for those who don’t want to have their phone all scratched. As for the materials, the holster is entirely made of plastic, while the hinge was designed in such a way that you can open it without effort.

Palm Pre smartphone, the CES 2009’s leading product

CES is precisely what the doctor ordered for companies from all over the world, and there is no doubt about it! The Consumer Electronics Show is the event that we have all been waiting for, as there were so many surprises prepared for us, not to mention the huge number of promises that we’ve been assailed with in the past couple of weeks.

Palm Inc. is one of the companies that decided to take advantage of the Las Vegas event, where it unveiled two ground-breaking products: the webOS mobile platform, which was developed by scratch, and the Palm Pre, a brand new device that is based, of course, on the new platform. The webOS is said to be the solution for those who want to have their loved ones and the information they need wherever they go, in the most wireless manner possible.

“Palm products have always been about simplifying lives and delivering great user experiences”, said Ed Colligan, the president and chief executive officer of Palm Inc. In addition, he said that “webOS and Pre bring game-changing simplicity to an increasingly mobile world by dissolving the barriers that surround information. It’s technology that seems like it’s thinking ahead to bring you what you care about most – your people, your time, and your information – in the easiest and most seamless way”.

Combining “several industry-standard technologies, including web technologies such as CSS, XHTML and JavaScript”, an important feature of the new platform, which is also said to be the key feature, is the Palm Synergy, that is designed to give you access to information from all the places. Among other things, the revolutionary webOS is compatible with applications that are connected to the web, allows you to run simultaneously multiple applications, features a multi-touch interface and allows you to receive notifications of important updates in a very diplomatic way.

And if the platform wasn’t enough, you’re given the chance to enjoy the ultimate web experience on Palm Pre, the first device running on the Palm webOS. This rounded ergonomic smartphone is a slide equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard. Among other features, the Palm Pre includes: a 3.1 inch TFT touchscreen HVGA display with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, a 3 megapixel camera with LED flash, sensors for proximity and light, an accelerometer, a gesture area which is places somewhere below the display that increase the navigation experience, Wi-Fi, integrated GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity with A2DP and EDR, EVDO Rev. A or UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, email (this feature includes Outlook EAS that facilitates the access to corporate Microsoft Exchange Servers), a media player and a 3.5 millimeters headset jack. As far as the internal memory is concerned, there are 8GB available.

The Palm Pre smartphone measures 59.57 x 100.53 x 16.95 millimeters and weighs approximately 135 grams. If you’re interested in purchasing this ground-breaking device, you should know that the webOS-based smartphone will be exclusively sold by Sprint, but there are no details about the pricing and availability. One thing’s for sure: the Pre will see the light of the day in the first half of this year.
