QWERTY Smartphone

The Nokia E75 is one of the latest devices launched by Nokia in terms of smartphones. What makes this phone come out from among devices manufactured by the Nokia Company is that it comes with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, which leads us to think of text messages and e-mails.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

The first thing which you will notice about this QWERTY smartphone is that it has huge dimensions for a high-end technology mobile phone. With 111.8 x 50 x 14.4 mm in dimensions and 139 grams in weight, it certainly is not a light and slim smartphone, but in my opinion, these reflect the construction quality.

The QWERTY keyboard, the most attractive feature of this phone, offers generous keys, very comfortable even for those people that have thick fingers. With large and flat keys, very well bounded, you will be able to write long messages or emails without any discomfort. In design terms, we can say that this QWERTY smartphone comes with a front side occupied by a 2.4 inch TFT display and a standard numerical keypad which includes two soft keys, four multimedia buttons (Home, Erase, Messages and Applications) and the classic Call and End buttons. On the sides it has a miniUSB port, a microSD card slot, a camera shutter, two volume keys and a special customizable key.

The Nokia E75 comes equipped with a 2.4 inch TFT display with a native resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. Supporting 16 Million colors this display is capable of offering great quality images regardless of the light conditions. Those people who are interested in the shooting capacities of this smartphone will be disappointed. Although it comes with a 3.2 MP camera with autofocus, image quality is very poor. The sensor can’t capture enough details, and precisely for this reason, the picture’s results suffer. Even if the technical specifications of the latest Nokia phones are not spectacular, they do their job very well, and in past times, we had only phones that responded well to commands. The Nokia E75 is not an exception. We must mention that the Nokia E75 is the first mobile phone of the E Series which supports N-Gage platform. Powered by an ARM 11 369 MHz processor it runs Symbian OS, S60 rel. 3.2 interface with great results. There is no lag or other malfunctions even when you change between landscape and portrait modes.  The internal memory is a bit too low for a smartphone, only 85 MB, but thanks to the microSD card slot you can extend it up to 16 GB.

For connectivity, this QWERTY smartphone comes with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB and GPS. It also is a Quad-Band device and supports GPRS, GSM, EDGE and 3G networks. Even if these connectivity features are used on all latest smartphones, the Nokia E75 will offer you a great experience during chatting or surfing the internet. The standard Li-Ion 1000 mAh battery is capable of keeping up this smartphone for 5 hours and 20 minutes of conversations and up to 280 hours in standby mode. The Nokia E75 is a new addition to the successful E Series from Nokia, one of the most successful series of mobile devices. With a price of $300, this handset surely leaves us with a nice impression.

Top 10 Smart Phones

Even if in the last year we haven’t seen a revolution in the smart phone segment, the well known brands have been capable of launching new models of smart phones, equipped with more powerful features and having a better design. For our top 10 smart phones we have chosen only 10 models which we think are the best handsets in the world.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

The 10th place is occupied by the Samsung i7500 Galaxy. This smart phone is equipped with a 3.2 inch AMOLED touch screen (with a maximum resolution of 480 x 320 pixels), 8 GB of free space (which can be extended up to 16 GB with a microSD card), a Qualcomm MSM7200A 528 MHz processor and an Android 1.5 interface. For taking photos, this smart phone has a 5 Megapixel camera with a lot of high-end features. Being a top smart phone, the Samsung i7500 Galaxy has many connectivity features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB and GPS, features which are common on all new smart phone models.

The 9th place is occupied by the Apple iPhone 3GS. Even if the release of the first model was eagerly awaited by everyone, the release of the third iPhone model did not draw so much attention.  The iPhone 3GS comes with the same design like the first model, but it is faster and more powerful. We choose the iPhone 3GS as part of our top 10 smart phones because it is equipped with the best capacitive touch screen, 16 or 32 GB of free memory, a 3.15 Megapixel camera, an ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz, PowerVR SGX graphics processor and 256 MB of RAM memory.

On the 8th place you can find the Toshiba TG01. Toshiba TG01 impresses with its 4.1 inch screen and the processing power which is matched by only few smart phones at the moment. It comes with a 3.15 Megapixel camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor, 256 MB of RAM memory and 512 MB of free space (which can be extended up to 16 GB with a microSD card). Like all the handsets which are part of our top 10 smart phones, it has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, 3G and GPS.

For the 7th place we have chosen the Sony Ericsson Satio. It is the first smart phone in the world which comes equipped with a 12 Megapixel camera. It has a 3.5 inch TFT touch screen, 128 MB of free space (which can be extended up to 32 GB with a microSD card), 256 MB of RAM memory and an ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz, PowerVR SGX graphics processor. Why isn’t this smart phone our number one choice? Well, even if it has been combined with high-end technologies and it is the first smart phone with a 12 Megapixel camera, Sony Ericsson has launched this model with a lot of software malfunctions.

The Samsung i8910 Omnia HD takes the 6th place. Like the Galaxy or Satio, Samsung Omnia HD is oriented on the multimedia side, although in terms of operating platform we are dealing with a smart phone. The ability to shoot and play HD movies is the strongest point of this smart phone. Equipped with a 3.7 inch TFT touch screen capable of supporting 16 million colors, an 8 Megapixel HD camera and 16 GB of free space (which can be extended up to 32 GB with a microSD card), this smart phone has many fans.

The 5th place is occupied by HTC Hero. This phone may look like it has everything, but in fact it is missing on one of the most important features. It lacks a QWERTY keyboard.  If it were equipped with a QWERTY keyboard, it could not have only 112 x 56.2 x 14.4 mm in dimensions and 135 grams in weight, extraordinary values for a smart phone. It also comes with a 3.2 inch touch screen, a 5 Megapixel camera, 512 MB of free space (which can be extended up to 32 GB with a microSD card) and a lot of connectivity features.

On the 4th place, the Nokia N97 is desirable even if it has minor shortcomings. Even if comes with a lot of technology like 5 Megapixel camera, a 3.5 inch touch screen, a full-QWERTY keyboard and a very optimized Symbian interface, it has many bugs and an immature interface. Another negative aspect which places this handset on the 4th spot of our top 10 smart phones is that it has a huge price.

The 3rd place is occupied by Motorola MILESTONE. The Motorola MILESTONE has a huge potential and the only reason why it is not on the first place is that it is not marketed in many countries yet. It is a complete device which reminds us that Motorola has invented the mobile phone.

Our second place goes to the HTC HD2.  We choose this smart phone for second place because it has the biggest touch screen used on a mobile phone ever (4.3 inch and 800 x 480 pixels resolution), the most powerful processor and not less than 448 MB of RAM memory. It is not a handset without flaws, but the photos or recorded clips’ quality does not matter that much when you can browse the internet almost as well as on a laptop.

Finally, we have reached the first place. The best smart phone of 2009, by our classification, is the Nokia N900. Even if it has many similar features with other models in our top, the most impressive aspect is that the Nokia N900 has an OS Linux Maemo operating system. Powered by an ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz, PowerVR SGX graphics processor, 256 MB of RAM memory and this new kind of operating system, this smart phone promises to be a revolution in smart phone terms.

Samsung Smart Phone

In the past years, HTC was the single manufacturer which was capable of offering great smart phones, with a lot of technologies and a powerful operating system.  Because it had no rivals on the market, Samsung Company has decided to launch a new model of smart phone, which promises to be a great opponent to the HTC models. The Moment Samsung smart phone has proven to be one of the best cell phones which Samsung ever made. With a lot of high-end technologies and an excellent design, it is driving customers crazy with joy.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

This Samsung smart phone looks almost similarly with other touch-screen mobile phones like Samsung Rogue. But if you look closer, you will see some major differences. The main difference is that it measures 117 x 59 x 16.5 mm in dimensions and a total weight of 161 grams, being very big for a cell phone. The case is made of combination of resistant plastic and soft materials, painted in an attractive color scheme. Even if the Samsung Moment looks very big, thanks to the great design and used materials, it feels very comfortable in your hand or pocket.

Like other smart phones, the Samsung Moment has a 3.2 inch AMOLED touch screen capable of offering you a maximum resolution of 480 x 320 pixels. Even if this display is smaller than the iPhone’s, it supports 16 million colors, so the images will be excellent. For a better quality, this display allows you to adjust the brightness, contrast even the settings of the accelerometer. Because this display occupies almost entire front side, the Samsung Moment has only three touch buttons (Home, Menu and Back), an OK button and the classic Call and End keys.

These keys are large enough and responsive so you can easily navigate in the menu. On the sides, it has a volume rocker, a voice dialing button and a camera shutter, a microUSB port (for charging and connect it with a PC) and a 3.5 mm jack for attaching headphones or other external speakers. For typing, the Samsung Moment has a full QWERTY keyboard. Like other models, this keyboard is very spacious with large and well defined keys. The keys are arranged in four rows and have enough space between them so you can easily write on them without making any mistakes.

This keyboard looks exactly like a PC keyboard. It is composed by number keys which have dedicated buttons, a large spacebar, a set of four arrow buttons and back, return and function keys. For taking photos, this Samsung smart phone has an integrated 3.2 Megapixels camera capable of taking  pictures at a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and recording clips at a maximum resolution of 352 x 288 pixels.

For connectivity, the Samsung Moment comes with a lot of high-end features. Being a Quad-Band device, it supports GPRS, EDGE, GSM and 3G. Other connectivity features which this smart phone has are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, USB, Google Talk, PC sync, GPS and a 3.5 mm jack. With all these, you certainly will be able to stay in touch with your friends every time. The internal memory has only 512 MB of free space but you can extend it up to 32 GB with a microSD (TransFlash) card.

The Samsung Moment comes with a standard Li-Ion 1440 mAh battery which is capable of keeping it up for 5.5 hours of conversations and 320 hours in standby mode. Anyway, you will be very satisfied by it if you choose to buy one. For a price of $149, you will have a great Samsung smart phone which will be able to satisfy all your needs.
