Sony Ericsson C905 Review

Sony Ericsson has a tradition in making phones with good cameras. The Cyber-shot series is already well known and the phones, which are part of it, can replace a digital camera without any problems, unless you are a demanding user and you need to take pictures occasionally. Sony Ericsson C905 is the high end camera phone from Sony Ericsson, with an 8.1 megapixel camera. This is the Sony Ericsson C905 review.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
Not only the camera is good, but the rest of its functions are good too. Although it might be a little thicker, the phone is very well done. It looks elegant and it inspires quality.

Sony Ericsson C905 is a slide model with rounded edges. For its case creation it was used almost entirely plastic, only on the edges there is some chromed metal. The producer made the case with a lot of attention, the materials are very good and it is protected against fingerprints. The plastic is not at all slippery, so the phone cannot fall from your hand.

sony-ericsson-c905-review

The front part of the phone is dominated by the 2.4 inch TFT screen which is resistant to scratches.  The phone has a secondary camera for video calls. Above the screen, near the speaker, there are two buttons that help you in camera configuration.

Under the screen we have the navigation key with four directional buttons and the OK button located in the middle. On its right and on its left we find the answer call / reject call buttons, and other keys for quick access to certain applications. When using the camera, you will notice that the directional key has four special functions. You can choose to expose, to enable / disable the flash, set the macro mode on/off and set self timer on/off. Once the slide is opened, you will find the number keys. There are just a little bit out in relief, but are large and well separated, so writing a text message is a pleasure. Keypad locks automatically when you close the slide.

sony-ericsson-c905-review2

On the left side, the phone has an M2 memory card slot and a USB port for computer connections. It would have been nice if this port would have been covered with a plastic lid, the phone would have looked better and the dust could not get in that easy. On the right side, Sony Ericsson C905 has all the necessary buttons for making photos. On the top side, there are the volume control buttons that can be used for zooming.  We have a button that opens the gallery of pictures and videos and then a button which switches between photo and video mode. The last button is used for taking pictures. All the keys are very easy to use.

Viewed from behind, the phone looks very much like a digital camera. A cap protects the lens from scratches and from dust. Once this protective cap is opened, the camera automatically starts. Near the lens, there is a xenon flash, a mini mirror for self portrait and a microphone for recording movies with sound.

sony-ericsson-c905-review3

Even though Sony Ericsson C905 has big dimensions, this is not a smartphone. The phone has no operating system such as Symbian or Windows Mobile, but has one of its own made by Sony Ericsson. The graphical interface has nothing special, is the same graphical interface you meet on most Sony Ericsson phones. The menus are well organized, so you get used to them quickly and you will find everything easily.

Sony Ericsson C905 is part of the Cyber-shot class, which means that it specializes in photography. It has an 8.1 megapixel camera, which is able to take pictures with a maximum resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. You can make smaller pictures if you like, at 5 or even 3 megapixels, so you will occupy less memory.

The camera is the best camera you can find in all the Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot series. You can do a lot of manual settings, if you do not like pictures made in automatic mode. It also has autofocus, face detection, smart contrast, photo / video stabilization, BestPic, auto-rotation, macro, red-eye reduction. The Xenon flash helps a lot in low light so you can make a picture almost as good as those made from an ordinary digital camera.

sony-ericsson-c905-review4

If you like to take many pictures, it is good to get a card bigger than 2 GB. An 8 megapixels photo is about 2.5 MB. The Face Detection can detect up to three faces simultaneously. BestPic mode allows you to make 7 pictures in a very short time so you can choose the best one of them. In Fast mode you can make 7 photos at 8.1 megapixels, the images being captured at 0.8 seconds between them, while in slow mode time increases to 1.7 seconds. In this mode of shooting, you cannot use flash, because it does not have time to load. C905's camera is the best of all Cyber-shot phones. Colors, brightness, contrast and detail are excellent. Whether you take pictures at night or day, near or in motion, the device behaves perfectly.

The phone knows how to record a video. The resolution on which the video files are captured is 320 x 240, 30 fps. They are saved in MP4 format, each minute of recording occupying 3 MB of memory. The video capture is made with stereo sound due to the additional microphone near the camera.

The music player that is available on Sony Ericsson C905 is Music Player version 3.0. Even if it is not a Walkman phone, the player does a good job when playing music. It can read the most existing audio files. You can change the sound as you like, with a MegaBass equalizer that comes with some preset modes. The interface is simple and easy to use, the player can run in the background, and songs can be sorted by artist, genre or name.

sony-ericsson-c905-review5

Sony Ericsson C905 has an (RDS) FM radio, which can store up to 20 channels in your area. The interface is pleasant, easy to use and has TrackID, a function which recognizes the name of the songs. Like the music player, the radio can run in the background.

The web browser is NetFront HTML 3.4, the one used on SE C903 and C902 phones. The browser offers a virtual mouse, which makes browsing a lot easier. Another less common function found on mobile browsers is the "Find on page" function, which seeks a specific word on the current page. Searching is easy. The NetFront browser is surprisingly good, so you can surf on the Internet without any problems on this phone. If you are not satisfied with the NetFront, you can always use Opera Mini, which is pre-installed.

C905 has a quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE / 3G connection. For the internet, you have WiFi too, which works quickly and has the advantage that you can connect for free from hotspot areas. The built-in Bluetooth supports A2DP, which means that you can use wireless stereo headphones.

The preinstalled applications are mostly the same that you meet on any Sony Ericsson. The organizer has the same functions encountered until now: File Manager, Calendar, Task, Notes, sync, calculator and code memo. The calendar is great; it lets you keep track of time well, so you can note meetings and set alarms.

The phone has the best camera that we have seen before on a Sony Ericsson and is certainly one of the best cameras, even if we refer to all mobile phones. The 8.1 megapixel camera can compete with any dedicated camera, especially for a casual user. The phone is excellent from all points of view.

I hope this Sony Ericsson C905 review was useful.

Sony Ericsson W350 Reviews

Sony Ericsson W350 is an entry-level phone and by that, I mean it is very simple, but after all it is a real Walkman. The phone was designed to look like an MP3 player, and this is reflected by the dedicated buttons it has. You should not expect things unseen from this phone, because, again, is only an entry level.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
Here is the Sony Ericsson W350 review.

The phone measures 104 x 43 x 10.5 mm and weighs 80 grams, and that means it is a compact phone. It is a candybar phone, but with a flap, giving it a retro air. But this flap is something more special because it's not just decorative.

Being a candybar, the phones front is occupied by the screen and keyboard, which, in the case of the clamshell W350, is hidden above the flap mentioned above. The terminal is covered in quality plastic. Sony Ericsson W350's screen is 1.9 inches and has 256,000 colors and the 176 x 220 pixels resolution. Above it we have the Sony Ericsson logo and the speaker, and under it the light sensor. The flap covering the keyboard has specific controls for a music player, Play / Stop, Fast Forward and Fast Backward, which is one of the features of an MP3 player that we discussed earlier.

sony-ericsson-w350-reviews

Under the clamshell, we find the D-pad and the standard alphanumeric keypad. The D-pad is composed of four buttons plus the navigation key in the middle. The first two buttons below the display correspond to Calls Menu and Main Menu, but according to navigation menu it can change its functions. Under these, we have the Return button and the C (Cancel) button, which is also used to turn on/off the phone. The keyboard is quite usable but it has little inconveniences. Even if the keys are quite flat, the flap makes writing a message to be a little bit more difficult. The sides of Sony Ericsson W350 do not have many buttons. The left one presents the dedicated Walkman button and peripheral attachment slot, headphones, USB cable and charger. The right side has just the volume control buttons and the top presents a hole for attaching the safety strap and a key lock button, another feature of an MP3 player. The lower side does not present any button. It has just the Walkman logo.

The backside of the phone is somehow more generous. Here we find a 1.3 MP camera, a player speakerphone and a cap that covers the standard battery Lithium-Po 780 mAh, which can hold up to 300 hours in standby mode and up to 7 hours talk time. I found out that the standby time and the talk time Sony Ericsson gave are correct. Also under the cap we find the microSD card slot and the SIM card slot. The annoying part is the removal of the battery system that requires shakes when it moves away from its place.
sony-ericsson-w350-reviews2

As I said earlier, Sony Ericsson W350 is an entry level. In this case, his brain will not be super-functional. In standby mode, the screen displays the signal, the battery status, the mobile phone operator and the menus. Once we are in the menu, we see that this is the standard Sony Ericsson style with icons placed in 4 x 3 matrixes. Even though newer walkman models have flash interface and come with File Manager submenu removed, in this model, it is still present, but this may be good news.

The phone can be customized with different themes or wallpapers, but according to this, the menu could not react very well, and by that, I mean that the menu navigation could be followed by a slight vibration when one of the submenus is selected

Even if it is a small phone, Sony Ericsson W350 supports SMS, EMS, MMS, E-mail and IM. As we have already got used to it, SMS, MMS and EMS share a mailbox, e-mails having a separate inbox. E-mail can support standard protocols POP3, IMAP4 and SPTM.

sony-ericsson-w350-reviews3

As I said earlier, this phone was designed to be a true MP3 player. So far, we have seen that the terminal has dedicated buttons for all this, but let's see how things are inside. Sony Ericsson W350 comes equipped with the latest version of the Walkman, and that is 3.0. Unfortunately, the phone has an internal memory of only 14 MB and it does not come with a too generous microSD card, but only 512 MB one. You can always make an upgrade up to 2 GB.

But let us focus on the sound quality for a moment. W350 comes with its own headphones in the package, which is good, but they are not the Walkman headphones that the most of us love, those "caps", and this time we have to deal with those normal headphones, still they are much more convenient than other versions from other companies. The phone offers an external speaker. The speaker as well as the headphones offers a good sound quality. Sony Ericsson W350 does not lack the TrackID function, which allows identifying any songs by recording them, and then sending them into a database and the Sony Ericsson MegaBass equalizer. In addition, the terminal will always enter into the music player mode when it is closed, because this is the phone's default standby mode.

sony-ericsson-w350-reviews4

It is no longer necessary to repeat what this phone is and why it has such a modest camera. The terminal is equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera without autofocus and without flash. The images are captured at a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels, so you have to find the perfect light, because otherwise you will have problems in this chapter. However, even in these conditions, the phone supports picture effects such as negative or black and white. Here another thing should be mentioned, and that is the video capture capabilities.

The Sony Ericsson W350 phone has the GPRS and EDGE technology, (both Class 10) that are more than sufficient. The screen is quite small and surfing on the internet with such a display would let the nerves heavy. The good news is that the navigation is using the WAP 2.0 XHTML and HTML (NetFront) technology. Checking e-mails or quick searching on the internet is an easy task for W350, but that is it.

sony-ericsson-w350-reviews5

An entry-level will always remain an entry-level. From this Sony Ericsson W350 review I know that those of you who want more will never be satisfied with a 1.3 megapixel camera or a memory of 14 MB. Those who want a standard phone, Sony Ericsson W350 could be one of the phones on their list, especially in the music chapter W350 is one of the best MP3 players on the market today. And besides, the quality-price is ideal.

Sony Ericsson W810i

Sony Ericsson W810i is W800s twin model, but in addition, it was equipped with support for the EDGE technology, and the menu has undergone several modifications. All other applications have remained untouched. W810i was released to customers that have not found in W800 everything they have ever wanted from a cell phone. However, the new model has only one major change and that is the connectivity options of this device, the rest is more or less identical to W800. The people at Sony Ericsson ignored the EDGE technology for some time. They explained the absence of this technology on European production line by the fact that this transfer standard is still not very popular in Europe. Moreover, many providers do not even have EDGE technology support in their networks. It seems, however, that fans desire has been heard and fulfilled by Sony Ericsson, so as mentioned above, the manufacturer has changed the market philosophy and has implemented the EDGE technology into all new models, including the case of the Sony Ericsson W810i.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
The dimensions of the phone remained almost the same, the new model is slimmer by 1mm. The camera lenses mounted on the back of the phone are not as convex as the W800. They are not protected by a sliding cover, which is an inconvenience, but, hopefully dirt won't have much impact on image quality. The camera is equipped with two LEDs, which serve as a flash. The LEDs can be switched on from  the camera application or from the main menu. They can be set to illuminate constantly for a minute or even to send SOS signals. They're quite strong, so they're able to illuminate a whole room.

sony-ericsson-w810i

The key speaker is just below the camera lens. Sound performance does not become bad when it lies on its back on a flat surface, because surface around the speaker is a little raised. The portrait mirror is not silver as usual, but orange, it is a very interesting solution, and the Walkman logo inlaid on the battery cover is quite attractive.

The black design does not attract so much attention, as it happened with the W800. Sony Ericsson W810i looks more like a sport model than a trendy device. It gives this impression probably because of the orange and silver elements inlaid in the phone shell. The top of the device presents the infrared and the shutdown button. On the left side where the Sony Walkman logo is found, we also see the Play/Pause button and the memory stick slot covered with a rubber cap. To remove the card the protective cover must be opened and the memory stick must be pressed inside. This is a Memory Stick Duo Pro, and by purchasing the phone you  get  a card with a capacity of 512 MB, in package, which in the case of SE W810i is more a necessity than a luxury, considering that is a music player in the first place. The card can be removed even when the phone is switched on, being able to change memory cards quickly.

sony-ericsson-w810i2

The volume keys and the camera button can be found on the right side of the device. At the bottom of the phone, we find a fast microphone connector port.

The numeric keys work flawlessly and because of that writing a message is a pleasure. Keys are distributed evenly and enough space is left between them. No deviations or extravagant curves can be found. The most important changes were made to the functionality of the keyboard. The phone has no joystick, and in its place a 4 navigation keys and the confirmation button in the middle were chosen. Each navigation key, including the middle button, was associated to one special feature in the music player. The symbols of these special functions are engraved on the navigation keys so there is a play symbol, a fast forward symbol and so on. Contextual keys and correction key C can be found on two additional rings, which fit perfectly with the main navigation key. On the edge of the phone there is a button that provides direct access to the music player and a direct access button for the menu. The edges of the phone are slightly convex and raised, and the function keys mentioned above are in their own traces.

sony-ericsson-w810i3

We must not forget the battery; unfortunately, its properties are slightly different from W800s. The player, being the most energy consuming application, decreases battery efficiency at less than two days, which is too little for a phone with a music player. According to the declaration of the producer, Sony Ericsson W810i can provide up to 350 hr in standby mode and 480 minutes talk time. However, it should be kept in mind that an intensive use will shorten the load cycles to half the times displayed above. W800 has the same type of Li-Pol battery, only that for this model, the producer mentioned 400 h in standby mode and 540 minutes talk time, so for those who tried the W800 model they can certainly make an idea about the capability of the W810 battery. When a SIM card is inserted or the battery is removed a quarter of the rear case must be removed. The battery can be removed and inserted without too much difficulty, but the SIM card may even be a problem. Both building solutions contribute to the phone strength and demonstrates how well the phone is developed around the case. The phone does not cause any scratch indifferent how hard it is pressed. There are no unnecessary spaces in construction. It is just wonderful.

sony-ericsson-w810i4

Unfortunately, the purchase package does not contain any material for polishing the screen. Fingerprints are visible everywhere and, at the same time, the screen can be easily scratched because the screen surface has no protection. The screen is beautiful, resolution and size have nothing particular, it is simply a normal TFT. These two details, however, create a fascinating picture of 176x220 pixels. Graphics design has suffered several changes, mostly cosmetic. As usual, the phone has four preinstalled themes, if you want more themes, you can download them from the internet.

Listening to music through headphones does not exclude the simultaneous use of other applications. Even if you run more than one application at the same time, the menu speed rate remains the same. The other incredible moment is when you use the headphones because the more you use them the more you will be satisfied and you will not want them out. The main function of the phone is the MP3 player. It can be started using either the icon in the menu or the orange button above the navigation key. In fact, you do not even have to start the phone to use the player, because every time the phone is switched on, the user is asked if he wants to use only the mp3 player or the entire phone. Fortunately, the user can choose this question.

sony-ericsson-w810i5

The camera can be activated either by selecting it from the menu or if the shutter button is long pressed. The phone must be held horizontally, just like a digital camera. When the shutter button is pressed, the phone needs 2-3 seconds to focus. The phone is still a slow one comparing to its competitors, but the effort is worth it, the phone takes pictures and the excellent macro mode also offers outstanding performance.

An addition to this phone is the EDGE Class 10. Internet connection is ensured by the CSD and HSCSD, or the GPRS Class 10. PC Sync works great, standard connection speed is 115 kb / s, and the connection as well as the PC Suite software is fairly stable.

’sony Ericsson W595 Earphones’

Sony Ericsson phones are like wine, more attractive with time. At the official launch, these phones really lack something, anything that might just make you buy them. If you are a Sony Ericsson fan, then your answer will be quite violent at least in vocabulary, but for the rest of the sane people out there with some brain activity the above mentioned will be understood. The main reason for why Sony Ericsson doesn't succeed in selling from the beginning its products is bad management and marketing.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
You see, their products are not all that great, let's say average (however average is good, a lot of people need and buy average products) but released on market for higher price ranges. Therefore, the obvious solution for the careful customers is to wait a few months (six months is the average time, and nine months will successfully bring you a bargain) before purchasing any Sony Ericsson phones. This is the case of Sony Ericsson Walkman W595.

Announced in July 2008, and released on September 2008, the W595 is currently offered for what it is really worth. This phone sports some key features like the 2.2 inches OVGA TFT display, the 3 megapixel digital camera, accelerometer sensor, multi tasking, stereo speakers, and the 3.5 mm audio jack. Unfortunately you can also find main disadvantages, such as the lack of auto focus, cheap plastic design, no office document view or edit, and a few more others.

Because the Sony Ericsson phones usually don't have a direct competitor, the W595 is hard to be included in a specific range. The most logic choice would be the middle audio orientated mobile phones. Even so, only Nokia has to offer a few middle range phones with audio features (with the Xpress Music), but overall the Xpress Music phones defeat by far the Walkman phones (as an overall result, while in the music department the walkman phones are with a step ahead the Xpress Music phones). With a height of 100 mm, wide of 47 mm, deep of 14 mm, the W595 weights about 104 grams.

Therefore, this phone is easy to carry around (not the smallest or lightest), featuring average dimensions and weight. For a phone made almost 70% out of plastic the W595 weights maybe a little too much. Even so, beside the plastic body, you still get a few nice finishes such as the side metallic finishes and the rubber feeling plastic on the back cover. The design is by far impressive or stylish. The phone looks normal, and the build quality is at best average.

The phone doesn't just look a little cheap but also feels so, when handled without patience. On the front cover, above the display you get beside the earpiece, an ambient light sensor, while below the display you can find the navigational pad and the dedicated music keys. Therefore, you get the four way directional keys (up, down, left, and right), centered by the okay button. The center button also has another function, the play or pause function, while the left key involves the rewind function and the right key the forward button.

You also get the call key, the end call key, the back key, two soft keys, and the menu key. Once you slide the phone you get the alphanumerical keys, which are easy to use and nice built. The keyboard is well sized and offers enough feedback for an average user. You should have no problems even if you are used to text more than call. On the right side the W595 sports the dedicated Walkman key, and the volume controls. On the other side you can find the branded connector port. On both top and bottom sides, Sony Ericsson included a stereo speaker. On the back cover you get, either opened or closed, on the upper left corner the 3 megapixel camera lens and that is about all you get, no LED flash, no Xenon flash whatsoever. This camera lacks even protective cover.

The operating system is not exactly full of business applications mostly because it is Walkman branded. Therefore, you have to expect of excellent music features and basic features in rest. This phone runs in both 2G network with GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and 3G network with HSDPA 2100. Sony Ericsson included in the W595a 2.2 inches TFT display with 240 x 320 pixels resolution with 256000 colors, and a built in accelerometer sensor in order to enable the auto rotate function.

Even if the W595 sports an ambient light sensor, its display will not offer sufficient brightness under direct sunlight. In terms of memory, the W595 has a small onboard memory of 40 MB, expandable with Memory Stick Micro memory cards up to 8 GB. The connectivity is ensured by the GPRS Class 10 (with the common by now 4+1 / 3+2 slots) with a varying speed between 32 Kb per second to 48 Kb per second, HSCSD, EDGE Class 10 with 236.8 Kb per second, 2.0 USB connectivity, Bluetooth version 2.0 with A2DP, and HSDPA with 3.6 MB per second. On board the W595 you can find a 3.15 megapixel camera with a maximum resolution possible of 2048 x 1536 pixels.

Even more this camera is capable of video recording but only in QVGA mode with only 15 frames per second. as any other phone camera the 3.15 megapixel camera sports some nice features such as geo tagging, or editing settings, like effects, white balance and others. Sony Ericsson ships the W595 with a BST 33 Lithium Polymer battery with 950 mAh power. This battery should be enough for about 385 hours of standby time in 2G network and 365 hours of standby time in 3G network. This battery should also offer about 9 hours of talk time in 2G networks, and about 4 hours and 30 minutes in 3G networks.

Because this is a music orientated phone you should know that this battery will allow you to listen to almost 26 hours of music playback. Sony Ericsson provides the W595 with a good balanced retail package, including the USB cable, mandatory charger, a two ear piece headset with remote and two 3.5 mm audio jacks, and a 2 GB Memory Stick Micro card. Overall, after the current price drop, the Sony Ericsson W595 is more attractive than ever in terms of music. If you are looking for a music phone in the first place, then the W595 might just be what you are looking for. However, if you also want some business features or a good camera then you should keep on looking to other mobile phones because W595 is not the phone for you.

Sony Ericsson C902 Review

Constantly changing and updating the portfolio is a necessary step for each and every manufacturer once every two years. We can easily see this process in the Nokia 2009 - 2010 plans, in Samsung's rebranding process, or even in the LG family. It is not necessary to change specs. The most important is to change the design making it more new and including the new brand's design. It is very likely to find average tech phones with new design, which are at its core older high tech phones.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
By doing so, the manufacturers not only save important money (which in normal marketing strategy a completely redesigned core tech would cost extremely much in development), but they are also capable of releasing phones in a smaller time frame. The same goes for the Sony Ericsson, which is always releasing new phones in smaller lines with the seam specs found on higher model lines. A true example of this process is the Sony Ericsson C901. Believe it or not this C9xx phone delivers only a 5 megapixel digital camera.

Even so, the C901 still has some key features, beside the new upgraded Sony Ericsson design, to offer. Some of the key features included in the C901 are the LED and Xenon flash; cover lenses, extremely high connectivity, and Quad band GSM support. On the other extreme, in the main disadvantages department you will discover that C901 lacks document viewer, that its retail box content is somewhat disappointing, memory card slot under the back cover, and a small video recording resolution. If you don't mind this few disadvantages, and you are looking for a 5 megapixel camera phone then you should take a closer look at the Sony Ericsson C901. Because this phone is branded "C" you have to expect excellent image quality.

In rest, you might find the old looking Sony Ericsson mobile phones. With a height of 105 mm, wide of 45 mm, deep of 13 mm, the C901 weights about 107 grams. These values prove once again that Sony Ericsson always tries to deliver small factor phones, easy to carry around. As a Sony Ericsson phone, the C901 obviously sports a black matte plastic. As you can imagine this doesn't exactly improves the C901 design. Even more, you will probably be disappointed since the C901 is a fingerprint magnet, and is also very easy to scratch. In rest the design could have been better build. Sure, you get no flex, but you do get weird noises when you press the phone to much (the all plastic body cause such of disadvantage).

You can choose from three different available colors, Silver, Black, and Precious Peach. On the front side, above the screen you get the earpiece with the ambient light sensor right next to it. Below the display you can find the navigations keys. Sony Ericsson added about six control keys (with two soft keys, clear button, call key, end call key, and activity menu). Even more, you can find the four way directional keys (up, down, left, and right) with the Ok centered button. Unfortunately, all these keys have small sizes, making the usability not too great at all. If you get a sense of how to use them, then you will find good feedback buttons. Under the navigational keys, you get the alphanumerical buttons. Some off this buttons have at least two functions (used for special features in camera mode). The keypad is made out of plastic.

Even so, it is easy to use and the typing will not be a problem at all. On the left side of the C901, you can find the Sony Ericsson port (uncovered), while on the right side you get the dedicated camera keys, the volume controls, and the shutter key. On the top of the C901, Sony Ericsson included the battery cover lock. The back cover of the C901, sports the cover for the 5 megapixel camera with Cyber Shot logo. This cover is located on the upper top of the C901. Once slide it open you get the 5 megapixel camera lenses and the LED flash, and even more, the Xenon flash.

However there are too many logos on the back cover of C901, the Sony Ericsson logo, the Cyber Shot logo, and the 5.0 megapixel camera logo. The design lacks nice features because of the logo "traffic". Overall, Sony Ericsson delivers an average looking phone, for some a jewelry, and for others something rather boring. The design is, however, a matter of taste, while the build concerns anyone. The build quality is average, and you might need to accept some compromises if you are going to purchase this phone.

In terms of software, you are not going to find anything new, within the C901. Even so, the organizer, music player, calendar and web browsing are included and work just fine offering a good user experience. Sony Ericsson included in the C901 a 2.2 inches TFT display with a QVGA resolution (240 x 320 pixels). This TFT display will render about 256000 colors. Even more, the C901 includes an accelerometer sensor, for a better photo experience. The display offers sufficient brightness even under direct sunlight. You should have no problems with this display in any light conditions. The C901 runs in 2G network with GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and in 3G network with HSDPA 900 / 2100.

The onboard memory value is about 110 MB, expandable with Micro Stick Micro memory card up to 8 GB value. The connectivity is well ensured in the C901. However, it lacks Wi-Fi. Even so, you get GPRS Class 10 (4+1 / 3+2 slots) with a vary speed form 32 Kb per second to 45 Kb per second, HSCSD, EDGE Class 10 with a maximum speed of 236.8 Kb per second, 2.0 USB connectivity, 2.0 Bluetooth with A2DP, and HSDPA with 3.6 MB per second. Also featured in the C901 is the 5 megapixel digital camera with 2592 x 1944 pixels, with auto focus, xenon flash and LED flash.

Because this is a Cyber Shot camera, you can easily find features like face and smile detection and geo tagging. The quality photos taken are remarkable. Even with only 5 megapixels the C901 can easily compete with other 8 megapixel phone thanks to the excellent lenses. This camera can also record videos.

However the quality of these videos is not high, with only QVGA resolution at 30 frames per second. Sony Ericsson included in the C901 a BST 33 Lithium Polymer battery with 950 mAh. This value battery will only provide about 430 hours of standby time, and about 9.5 hours of talk time in 2G network. For an average user all these values mean about three days of autonomy (however, depending on the usage you can even get five days of autonomy). In the shipping retail box, Sony Ericsson included beside the C901 unit and battery pack, a mandatory charger, one pair of headphones, user guide, and that is about all you will get. No CD software, no memory card included, no cable, no nothing (sad but true).

Overall, the C901 is not better than C902, not in design or specs. If you are looking for a Cyber Shot phone, then chose C902 (now even more because you can certainly find it with a smaller price tag). However, if you are interested in comparing the C901 with other manufacturer phones, then you should keep on moving. The C901 is the best 5 megapixel digital camera without touch screen, with an asking price of $350 - $400, on the market with no direct competitor, because Nokia 6700 classic and Nokia 6720 classic are not camera orientated phones.
