Sustainable innovation from Sony Ericsson

Just like we were promised, Sony Ericsson has brought to the market two new cell phones, both based on an eco-friendly technology that first appeared within the GreenHeart concept. They are called Sony Ericsson C901 GreenHeart and Sony Ericsson Naite, being the living proof of their “ongoing commitment to taking a lead on environmental sustainability”. The great thing is that the purpose has been reached without neglecting the design and the functionality of the product.

Along with these two green cell phones, Sony Ericsson also launched the MH300 GreenHeart headset, which is said to be “one of the greenest headset on the market”.

First of all, I should tell you that the C901 GreenHeart will be equipped with an electronic version of the so very famous manuals, so that the paper one is replaced, which helps us save approximately 90% in paper and reduce the impact the transport of the product has over the environment. On the other hand, the case is made of recycled plastics, in proportion of 50%, while the display light sensor is optimised, using a smaller amount of energy.

Both phones will come with a charger that consumes small amounts of energy, being one of the first such charger to come to market. This way, there is a reduction of approximately 15% in the overall quantity of CO2 footprint.

The C901 will be equipped with the so-called WalkMate, an application that allows users to talk about what it takes in order to be eco-friendly with the help of a comparation between a walk and a journey made by car. Naite, on the other hand, comes with Ecomate, an application that helps the users make the greenest choices of them all.

The features of the C901 GreenHeart include a 2.2 inches TFT display which is scratch resistant with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, a five megapixel camera with Xenon flash, Smile Shutter, Face Detection and up to 16x digital zoom, media player with PlayNow and TrackID, Access NetFront, FM radio with RDS, video streaming, YouTube support, Bluetooth, USB, Google Maps, geo-tagging, an internal memory of 120MB and memory stick Micro card support (M2).

The C901 measures 105 x 45 x 13 millimeters and weighs 107 grams, providing up to 9.5 hours of talk time and up to 430 hours of stand-by time.

The Sony Ericsson Naite, on the other hand, comes with a 2.0 megapixel camera with 2.5x digital zoom and video recording capabilities, media player with PlayNow and TrackID, FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth technology, Google Maps, USB, YouTube support, a 2.2 inches TFT QVGA display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, an internal memory of 100MB and a SanDisk microSD card support.

Sony Ericsson Yari, perfect for gesture games

As I said in a previous post, Sony Ericsson has just released two new multimedia cell phones, which were baptized Aino and Yari. I’ve already told you about the Aino, and now it’s time for the Yari to show off as much as it can. Or, ok, as much as I’m willing to.

The device is quite similar to the other one, when it comes to its features, even if it has some particularities of its own. But what’s the most important thing of them all is that the Sony Ericsson Yari is that it was designed to bring its users the ultimate gaming experience, giving them the possibility to choose from a wide variety of games, such tennis or boxing. There are lots of gesture games, but also lots of pre loaded motion games and standard ones.

“Yari is the industry’s first mobile phone with gesture gaming outside of the Japanese market”, explained Catherine Cherry, the Market Business Manager at Sony Ericsson. In addition, she said that: “It’s time to move like you’ve never moved on a mobile phone before! With Gesture gaming you move your body to play instead of pressing buttons on the phone, giving you a fun experience that even helps you keep fit. If you’ve exhausted yourself with the games there are loads of other multimedia features to enjoy. Snap your friends with the five megapixel camera or chill out to your favorite tunes with the state-of-the-art music player.”

As for the features, here we go with the list: GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and UMTS/HSDPA 900/2100 MHz networks, a 5 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom, autofocus, face detection, smile detection, video recording capabilities and geotagging, music player, stereo Bluetooth A2DP, shake control and TrackID, Instant Messaging, Exchange ActiveSync, assisted GPS, DNLA, USB, 1GB microSD card included in the box, a 2.4 inches TFT display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

The battery is able to provide up to 10 hours and 4.5 hours of talk time on GSM/GPRS, respectively UMTS, and no more than 450 hours on both GSM/GPRS and UMTS.

Similar to the other device, Sony Ericsson Yari will start selling in the fourth quarter of this year, in two different colors: Achromatic Black and Cranberry White.

Aino, a new Sony Ericsson slider

Sony Ericsson has just launched two new devices in the market, both of them being multimedia cell phones equipped with advanced cameras, even if they’re not part of the Cyber-shot range of products. The two phones are called Aino and Yaro, but this time we’ll be talking about the first one, leaving Yaro for another occasion.

So, let’s see if there is something about this phone that is special enough in order to take it into consideration.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

First of all, there are two Sony Ericsson services, which are both brand new, called Remote Play, which gives the user the chance to “control your Playstation and access its media content on your Aino anywhere”, being designed for the PSP, at first, and the Media Home, which is an application that is based on the Media Go, from where it takes the media content in order to show it to the user.

Rumors about a green cell phone from Sony Ericsson

It’s been a long time since we last heard about the so-called Sony Ericsson GreenHeart, a device that was considered by everyone the attempt of the company to join the team of those who showed interest in solving the problems involved by the eco-friendly spirit. It was just a concept back then, or at least this is how the phone was presented, and we were told to be temperate and not to put our hopes too up.

rumors-about-a-green-cell-phone-from-sony-ericsson-01

Sony Ericsson made the announcement of a syntagm that was called “environmental warranty” in September 2008, when they promised to become more responsible and involved when it comes to recycling the phones that “are handed in at designated Sony Ericsson collection points”. In addition, they came up with the GreenHeart, the eco-friendly device I mentioned earlier.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

For those who were afraid of never having the chance to see that prototype becoming reality, you should all know that Sony Ericsson has put it very clear: the technology and the innovations that were brought within the GreenHeart were not forgotten or neglected and they’ll see the light of the day in the near future, “stuffed” in other green products. Is it that a green cell phone is on its way, after all?

We are being told that “the first commercial handsets to have benefited from that process” will be announced sometime soon. More than that, it seems that there will be an interactive video webcast tomorrow (June 4th), at 13:00 UK time.

But allow me to make things a little bit clearer than they already are. Well, it seems that, after being released in Barcelona under the name of “Idou”, the phone is going to hit the market as Satio, after all.

The Satio comes with the following features: GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and UMTS/HSDPA 850/900/2100 MHz networks, a 3.5 inch TFT touchscreen display with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels, a 12.1 megapixel camera with autofocus, Xenon flash, up to 12x digital zoom, image stabilizer, face and smile detection, geo-tagging, media player with PlayNow and TrackID, Bluetooth stereo A2DP, an on-screen QWERTY keyboard, email, Exchange ActiveSync and handwriting recognition, Wi-Fi, USB, assisted GPS, Google Maps, a microSD card slot and an 8GB card which is included.
