Sony Ericsson 760i Slider Phone

Speaking about Walkman cell phones is similar to discussing about the possibility of listening to excellent quality music but with a mobile phone instead of a classic MP3 player. For this review we choose to present the newest member of the Walkman Series, the Sony Ericsson 760i slider phone. Launched with a huge success and a lot of fans, this shiny and beautifully designed handset offers a great combination between aspect, performance and price. For a price of $240, you will receive in the retail package, besides the phone and the standard battery, a USB cable, a charger, Walkman headphones, a Memory Stick Micro (M2) 1 GB and the usual CD software and manuals.

When we talk about the design, we have to say that the Sony Ericsson 760i is a slider cell phone which comes with a standard sliding case made of resistant plastic, with rounded edges and a beautiful finish. The sliding mechanism works perfectly. It is easy to operate and doesn’t make any noise. The Sony Ericsson 760i slider phone also has low dimensions, compared to other slider cell phones. It measures 103 x 48 x 15 mm in dimensions and 103 grams in weight, values which make it a very portable and comfortable device. Viewed from the front side, it seems to be similar to any other slider device.

There you will notice a standard display, several navigation buttons (two buttons for opening the gallery and the last picture taken, two soft keys, the call and end buttons, a 5-way button which can be used as music player control buttons and the classic clear and shortcut keys). The numerical pad of this handset is brilliant. The keys are flat and large, very responsive and offer a positive feedback when they are pressed. Being covered with a pleasant to touch finish, these keys will make you feel very comfortable when you type your messages. The sides of the phone host a pop-port, a Walkman dedicated button and a volume rocker.

When we think about the performance of this cell phone, we must begin with the display. The Sony Ericsson 760i slider phone is equipped with a 2.2 inches TFT display which has a native resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and support for up to 256K colors. The images displayed are great, with a good quality of colors and a good contrast. For those people who love to take photos, the 760i comes with a 3.15 Megapixel camera capable of taking photos at a maximum resolution of 2048 x 15336 pixels.

Lacking a flash, this camera will prove to be useless if you are planning to use it in a dark environment, but even so, the quality of the images is quite acceptable. For storing all your songs, photos or any other files, this mobile phone comes with 40 MB of internal memory and a Memory Stick Micro card slot which supports up to 4 GB. At the connectivity chapter, the 760i makes another great impression. Even if it is a cheap phone, it comes with support for GSM, GPRS, EDGE and 3G. For other kind of connectivity options it offers Bluetooth, USB and GPS. The battery life, an important aspect for a music phone, is a strong point of this device. The standard Li-Pol 930 mAh battery manages to keep the unit on for 4 hours of conversations, up to 350 hours in standby mode and up to 20 hours of music play.

Costing only $110, it is one of the cheapest Walkman handsets. When thinking about the design, we can say that it comes with a classic candy-bar case made of plastic covered in a pleasant to touch finish. Having rounded edges, 100 x 46 x 10.5 mm in dimensions and 78 grams in weight, this music phone feels extremely comfortable in hands or pockets.
