If you are not in Asia and need to find cell phones for children it’s a little bit hard. I can tell you this because I also tried to find at least a few models to choose from but all I’ve found were 3 old phones from 2005, and they didn’t even look cool enough for a child to like it.

Fortunately I’ve discovered at ThinkGeek.com.
2 impressively small cell phones for adults but because of their dimensions I could recommend them as cell phones for children too. Besides these, they provide the latest technologies such as touchscreen and this is a very important aspect if we talk about easy of use and ergonomics if you like.

The first one was announced in a recent press release and it is called the Neon 7 Mini Touchscreen Cell Phone, and when they say it’s a mini, believe me, it’s among the smallest cell phones I’ve seen.
Imagine holding in your hand a 95 X 42 X 11 mm GSM handset with an extremely slim design measuring just 11 mm thick, but with features like touch-sensitive 1.9-inch TFT LCD display of 65K colors, heat sensitive keys, MP3/MP4 player for music and videos, stereo Bluetooth, email support, virtual on-screen full keyboard, a talking menu with intelligent call alert, meaning the phone tells you who is calling by reading the incoming number out loud thanks to the speech synthesis technology, and hand writing recognition. This sounds too much! All these in a tiny mobile phone!

Just a few days ago I ran out of battery and I was thinking “oh dear, what I wouldn’t give for a phone that doesn’t have to be charged”. And today I smiled when I read that Beijing Hengjiweiye presented its solar mobile phone.

The Chinese producer introduced the solar mobile phone during China Beijing International Expo 2007. This phone has ability to charge its battery just by using any light source.

This king of phone would sure help a lot of people, plus it will please those who are concerned about the green and environmentally-friendly policy.

Nokia Aeon was presented by Nokia on their website in the Research & Development section. What is so great about this phone is that it looks like it will actually go into production next February. Of course, its just a rumor, but still, makes us hope to actually see it someday in the GSM shop. All we know about it for now is that its a touchscreen phone and it looks fantastic.

3. SKY “Sleek & Slim”

“Sleek & Slim” from SKY is another concept based on touchscreen technology. The phone has a discretely glowing touchpad, hideaway keys and generally utterly-fashionable minimalist design.

4. Benq-Siemens Snaked

Benq designers thought of women too and presented Snaked. This is a “reptile” looking phone, creepy somehow, but still is very cool. The Snaked is a fashion phone for sport loving women, because it also has body monitoring sensors to help the ladies keep those fine shapes.

5. “What You See Is What You Get” Concept

One thing is for sure about this concept phone…they could’ve named it shorter. Designed by Pei-Hua Hang, the phone’s name comes from the fact that this concept no longer uses an LCD as viewfinder for the digital camera, instead it uses a transparent frame. And of course, interaction is made through a touchscreen.

6. Retroxis by Dark Label

If most phones presented here will never be sold in store for sure, the Retroxis concept phone from Dark Label looks kinda human, and makes us hope we’ll be able to get one of these one day. Designed by Lim Sze Tat the phone is encased in high polished polycarbonate renowned for its lightweight and toughness and has an invisible OLED display that silently hides away when inactive.

7. Benq-Siemens Black Box

Black Box designed by Benq-Siemens uses a touch screen as its keypad and, depending on the functions you are using, the touch screen changes the control layout immediately.

8. NEC Tag

Somehow similar to the Snaked concept, the NEC Tag is a flexible phone concept that can be , for example, hung from a belt or wrapped around the user’s arm. Interesting is that the phone has shape-memorizing material and sensors that allows the phone to change its shape according to the mode.

9. TripleWatch

Though the idea of a cellphone watch is not so new, the TripleWatch designed by Manon Maneenawa has an interesting triple flip technique that allows the user to transform the watch into a normal cellphone. When used as a wrist watch, the phone has a speaker button that allows the user to answer the phone and hang up while driving.

Don’t you hate when sometimes really good looking concept phones show up, just because you know it will probably never see production?

Its the case for Hulger’s Ziricote Luxury Wooden Phone which is a very sleek slider phone, but most major functions aside from dialing can be performed without needing to slide out the keypad. Of course, no info if it will ever go into production, which is too bad, because the phone really looks awesome.

A czech website posted a video demo on a bluetooth controlled car through an application installed on a Nokia Symbian phone. This is pretty cool and is also simple enough, you use your navigation button to control the car movement (left, right, accelerate and brake). I wonder if you can drift or make a 180 turn.

Dark Label presented Retroxis, a very interesting concept phone designed by Lim Sze Tat.

Retroxis reflects a retro approach towards design with clean aesthetics, optimum controls and functions. It is encased in high polished polycarbonate renowned for its lightweght and toughness and the invisible OLED display silently hides away when inactive to make your phone look clean and stylish.

Smokers, get ready for one strange device. The Chinese invented what seems to be the first Mobile Phone Cigarette Pack. Cigarette King 3838 has a unique cigarette pack shape and, beside the VGA Camera and the MP3 player it has a place at the back where you can keep 7 cigarettes, for rainy days. The phone also comes with a free lighter and a pack of real cigarettes.

Of course, the phone has printings warning you that smoking is bad for your health. Apparently the phone costs around $200 but we have no idea if it will come out of China.
