Its name is 6730. Nokia 6730. And it’s said to be the next Vodafone mobile phone to be launched by the provider sometime during this month. For the moment, we should be satisfied by the fact that it was officially announced by the Finnish company via a press release that tell us about the exclusivity Vodafone obtained in selling the phone worldwide.

The Nokia 6730 classic is expected to start selling in the next couple of weeks “across Vodafone’s global footprint”. This means that customers from several European countries, from African and Asian ones will soon be able to enjoy the benefits brought by this new phone.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

All phones that are part of the classic range of devices designed by Nokia are candybars, so the Nokia 6730 is a candybar also. The cell phone is compatible with the Symbian S60 operating system and comes with GPS capabilities which are more advanced than those you can find on other similar devices.

Other features of this new Vodafone mobile phone include quad band GSM connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), dual band HSDPA (for 900/2100 MHz networks), a 2.2 inch QVGA display, a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, Bluetooth connectivity, Nokia Maps, both personal and business email, Mobile Internet, the Vodafone Music Client service and a 1GB microSD card included, for expandable memory.

The device measures 112 x 46 x 12.6 millimeters and weighs 83 grams.

“The Nokia 6730 is a great all-round handset – just as perfect for mobile internet users as for music fans who want to take their tracks with them. This product follows a successful line-up of Vodafone exclusive devices from Nokia and is another great example of our collaboration”, said Peter Becker-Pennrich, the Director of Terminals Marketing at Vodafone.

It’s more than a month since Vodafone, the famous mobile network operator, announced the introduction of the new HTC Magic, a device that it was said to be an Android-based cell phone. Back then, the information about the availability, meaning the precise release date, wasn’t unveiled.

Well, we have a piece of fresh news for you as far as the handset is concerned. It seems that Vodafone UK decided to launch the HTC Magic in the near future. To be more precise, the phone is said to hit the market starting May 1st.

If you don’t remember what the Magic will bring, let me refresh your memory: a 3.2 inches QVGA screen, HSDPA, GPS functionality, a 3.2 megapixel camera with no flash, unfortunately, a G1-style trackball.

Rumors say that the phone will cost you nothing (which means it can be yours and all yours for free), if you don’t have anything against signing a 2-year contract agreement. In addition, you’ll have to make up your mind for a data plan offered by Vodafone UK of at least £25 per month.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

As I said before, the news refers to the UK launch, but the chances for it to start selling in other European markets, such as France, Germany, Italy and Spain, where Vodafone is available, are quite significant. Not to mention the fact that it’s possible that the Magic will also be present in the US shelves by the end of this year, via T-Mobile.

When it comes to social networking services, Twitter is very well known worldwide. More than that, it became so famous that the government of the United Kingdom is proposing that Twitter becomes part of each and every pupil’s life, as it is wanted to be taught in primary schools. My, oh, my! What do you say about such a decision?

If it’s so important for everyone that Twitter turns into something that we can’t live without, then maybe the exclusive agreement between Vodafone UK and Twitter shouldn’t come as a surprise for anyone. Vodafone UK decided to sign it in order to give its customers the possibility to send and receive Twitter messages by sending SMS.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

Starting yesterday, Vodafone customers will receive text messages from those who they choose to follow this way and they will “send text messages to a short code (86444) for their “tweets”, @replies, or to follow someone on the go”. In the first couple of weeks, people will post the SMS updates on Twitter for free.

“We are delighted to be the only operator in the UK today to offer Twitter on SMS to our customers”, said Al Russel, the Head of Vodafone Internet services at Vodafone UK. In addition, he said that “since we made social networks on the move both simple to use and great value, customers have flocked to using these services which have been exploded in popularity”.

And here’s another great thing: if you’re receiving a text message from Twitter to contain a URL, you’ll be able to click on it and access it directly from your handset.

This is another proof to let us know how far the Twitter hysteria has gone. From now on, you’ll know how to Twitter on your phone.

Sony Ericsson seems to be very busy these days, as the company has just announced two new cell phones, the C510 and the W508. In the given context, Sony Ericsson doesn’t spare any moment and decided move on, unveiling another handset, which was designed and developed to be sold exclusively by Vodafone.

The Sony Ericsson W715 isn’t what people would call a new device, as it’s based on an old cell phone, the W705. This means that you can always consider the W715 the updated version of the previous walkman phone, which was announced at the end of last year, in November.

Compared to the W705, this Vodafone exclusive phone is equipped with more advanced features, such as GPS, which makes it able to provide turn-by-turn pedestrian and driving navigation. These functions are available as long as you use the Vodafone Find&Go and helps you find restaurants, hotels or shopping center, which are now a couple of clicks away.

<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

The features of the new Sony Ericsson walkman phone include, among others: quad band GSM / GPRS / EDGE connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz), a dual band UMTS / HSPA connectivity (900 / 2100 MHz), a 2.4 inch TFT display with a resolution of 240×320 pixels and 262K colors, a 3.2 megapixel camera with up 3.2x digital zoom, location-based services such as the Vodafone Find&Go that I’ve already mentioned, and Google Maps, a walkman player, track ID, shake control, stereo Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and DLNA certifiedFM radio with RDS, Auto rotate, Microsoft Exchange, NetFront browser, an internal memory of 120 MB and microSD card for expandable memory of up to 4 GB.

Measuring 95 x 47.5 x 14.3 millimeters and weighing 98 grams, the battery of the W715 provides up to 10 hours of talk time and up to 400 hours of stand-by time for GSM/GPRS and up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 350 hours of stand-by time on UMTS. Available in two color versions, Garnet Black and Luxury Silver, the package consists of the W715, battery, battery charger, a memory stick micro, a USB cable, stereo PHF, the Sony Ericsson PC Suite, Media Manager and the user guide.

This new Vodafone exclusive phone is expected to become available starting the first quarter of this year, in select Vodafone stores, but the price is still unknown.

“Good news from T-Mobile!” or better said “Good news for T-Mobile!” because the German court has granted the telecommunications company the exclusiveness to sell the iPhone in this country.
So get ready to say “bye bye!” to the unlocked and expensive devices!

Apple is finally happy that its strategy of selling the iPhone through only one operator in each country has succeeded.
Vodafone has won for a short period of time by obtaining a restriction order for the rival company that was obligated to stop selling locked iPhones.

Klaus Czerwinski, a spokesperson from T-Mobile was happy to declare:
“We are just happy that our opinion is confirmed that this is legal. We still think it is best for the customer.”
“From the outset, the intention was ensure clarity on the commercial position in the German marketplace. Vodafone does not believe that the pricing model is in the best interests of the German consumer,” added Czerwinski.

Palm Treo 500v is released on the Vodafone mobile network across Europe and comes with the latest Windows Mobile OS.

Palm Treo seems to be building thinner and thinner phones, in this case only 0.65 inches, though the 500v is a little bit wider than its predecessor, having a transflective color screen resolution of 320×240 pixels with a landscape orientation, but no touch-sensitive feature, just a QWERTY keyboard.

With its 2MP camera with 2x digital zoom you can capture pictures at a resolution of 1600×1200 pixels and films at 320×240 pixels, which are the minimum decent expectations from a phone camera these days.
Connection technologies supported are: GSM (900/1800/1900), GPRS class 10 and UMTS (2100).

And there is also the Bluetooth 2.0 support with EDR for stereo headsets.
It has no infrared but a miniUSB port type.
For adding some extra memory, you have the microSD card slot, with which you can increase its 150 MB available memory.

The Li-Ion battery is of 1200mAh and has a standby time of up to 10 days and the talk time of 4.5 hours.

The Palm Treo 500v can be found at a full price of $588 or free with a Vodafone contract of course.

Vodafone is to release Blackberry 8310 Curve in the UK soon, after releasing the phone in Germany a while ago. The phone is the same as the 8300 Curve, with the sole difference that this one also packs GPS functionality.

Blackberry 8310 Curve brings evolved multimedia solutions, including the Sat Nav feature that is powered by Telmap, a very powerful and easy to use navigation application.

Blackberry 8310 Curve is the smallest and lightest smartphone from RIM that comes with a full QWERTY keyboard. The 2 megapixel camera aids in taking decent quality pictures, while more multimedia features come from the phone’s media player and internet connectivity.

Moreover, this smartphone also brings business solutions for email and text messaging, not to mention that it provides instant messaging and a web browser. This helps the user to stay connected and up to date with the latest news and pieces of information. These features, along with the GPS, make Blackberry 8310 Curve worth the wait until Vodafone will eventually bring it to the UK market soon.

The 8310 is to be available starting with September 3rd with BlackBerry personal or business price plans, so more people can have access to it.
