From a producer that was known only among a limited number of users, HTC has become in the recent years a well known brand. Although have not yet the reputation of brands like Nokia, Samsung or Sony Vaio, in terms of hardware quality and software devices, HTC is no less important. Perhaps even the contrary.

Recently, HAC discovered the potential of the Google Android. That after years in which they were monogamous and didn't cheated in any way the Microsoft. They have even been the locomotive of Windows Mobile. All is missing now is that HTC would realize that they can make phones with Symbian S60 (which is open source, and that means that it would not cost them) to have an almost complete portfolio of operating systems.


HTC Touch Diamond 2 is chronological, logical and from all point of view, the successor of HTC Touch Diamond, a device that impressed us when it was released but suffered from several shortcomings that a careful eye could not easily forget. Fortunately, the htc diamond 2 is not just a reincarnation, it brings many improvements at both hardware and software. HTC Touch Diamond 2 no longer glows and doesn't has the design fantasies of his predecessor. It is more sober, more business. Blending metal with black plastic gives it a serious air, not an immature one. And weight. Even though is not very far from a brick, htc diamond 2 includes its weight. You actually feel that you keep a phone in your hand.

The 3.2 inch touch screen site occupies most of the device. Commands that are made by touch are taken easier then the first Diamond and resolution of 480 x 800 pixels gives a very high pixel density. Image quality is also excellent. It suffers just outside, in direct sunlight. The most interesting new element to the hardware level is definitely the zoom function. Placed immediately below the screen is a bar type touch sensitive that allows the increase and decrease in images, web pages, etc. Its use is very simple: if get you finger on it from left to right it increases, if you get it from right to left id decrease.



Under the zoom function there are the only four buttons from the front of the device. Two of them are dedicated to the call management and the other two are for the back function and the Start menu. Start menu button functions similar with the one from the Symbian S60 menu: when you press once you get into the menu, and if you press twice gets you in the main tab of the main 3D Touch Flo interface.

Edges are exempt from phone buttons, the only exceptions are made by the volume adjustment button and the Power / Stand by one. The volume is longer and it has to be pressed on the edges to increase or decrease the volume. Touch Flo 3D is rapidly and it's moving almost instantly and it comes with many innovations. In the background, software improvements are the greatest profit to the Diamond first device.



Touch Flo 3D has two defining characteristics. The first is that it runs fluently. The second characteristic is, metaphorically speaking, the burial of Windows Mobile. Touch Flo 3D covers now more menus and applications of the operating system. The old and boring interface of Windows Mobile has been replaced with the much more handsome Touch Flo 3D interface. What does that mean? That you are not going to use that much the Stylus because the Touch Flo 3D menus are optimized for touch screen use. Many more menus and applications can be used with your fingers, without using the stylus.

Touch Flo 3D brings many improvements over the first version of the Touch Flo. Here are the most important of them:

Menu notifications. If you press any icon from the top of the bar menu, is shown a generally menu with all notifications of missed calls, received messages, and unstopped alarms.

Contacts manager. Replace the agenda of Windows Mobile and is optimized for touch. It has three sections: all contacts, favorite people and history. Actually, one contacts agenda with all calls and messages historic. If you go to a specific person you can see not only the contact information but also the entire history of calls and messages made with that person.



Web browser. Opera remained the default browser. The internet tab from Touch Flo 3D comes with two innovations: the search box on Google's so called Push Pages. These are some bookmarks that can be refreshed automatically. Browser connects to the Internet called every time to download those pages. In this way, added sites can be quickly accessed. If you do not want to waste the traffic, you can always disable this feature.

Weather. The tab responsible for weather forecasts looks as good as before. In addition, it has the forecast for the coming days, with maximum and minimum temperatures.

Calendar. This is a new tab which does not exist in the first version of Touch Flo. It has two display modes: day and month. The display mode on the day with meetings and tasks is displayed also the weather.



Start Menu. The start button no longer results in the appropriate menu of Windows Mobile, but in a custom menu where the user puts favorite programs. Only when you pres the function menu in All Programs it comes with all the applications that are installed, It is also optimized to be use by the touch of your finger.

HTC phones have never excelled in terms of camera. Images taken with the HTC Touch Diamond 2 are not extraordinary, the colors are faded, the contrast is incorrect and the details suffer. However, compare with previous models, photographs taken with Diamond 2 are better. However, you should not claim too much for the camera, even if it has 5 MP.

There are not so many reproaches that can be made to HTC Touch Diamond 2. It is excellent from many points of view.
