iPhone 2.2 Software update is now available

Well, here it is. The Apple software update for both generations of the iPhone and iPod touch is available starting late Thursday night Pacific time. The new version 2.2 is equipped with several additions that provide much more than its predecessors. Even if you’re a beginner and you haven’t done this before, installing this update is very easy. If you’re interested in it, the iPhone 2.2 update is available now through iTunes, but make sure you have more space for it than for the previous 2.1 software update that was released by Apple back in September. If then you needed 237.8 megabytes, now you’ve got to go a little bit further, to 246.4.

Now let’s see what the iPhone 2.2 Software Update offers. There are services like Google Street View, Public Transit and Walking Directions; on the other hand, the Maps service helps you display whatever address you might like, shares location via email. As far as the Mail feature is concerned, there are some pretty nice completions, such as resolved isolated issues with scheduled fetching of email and improved formatting of wide HTML email.

Some other improvements include: podcasts which are now available for download in iTunes application (over Wi-Fi and cellular network), improved stability and performance of Safari, improved sound quality of Visual Voicemail messages, pressing Home button from any Home screen displays the first Home screen and preference to turn on/off auto-correction in Keyboard Settings.

However, the main disadvantages of the Google Street View consists of all of those things that are more important to people and that are not included: the cut and paste functionality, the MMS functions, Adobe Flash support, the impossibility for you to run your applications in the background and the GPS turn-by-turn directions.

However, when using the Google Street View, you have access to a virtual walking tour and you can also navigate street-level photographs of places that crossed your mind and that you’ve located in Maps. In addition, this update gives you walking directions and allows you to find public transit schedules, check fares and estimate your travel time. When it comes to the Share Location feature, you can tap the button with this name in order to send an email that includes a Google Maps URL.

More than that, you can now access podcasts, as well, which are available on iTunes via Wi-Fi network. Not to mention the fact that, Safari was also taken care of, as we’re now talking about a brand new interface, which is not only better, but also more stable. Clicking the Home button, you can get back to your Home screen from any other screen you might be browsing.

Therefore, even there are still lots of things missing, you can tolerate them and go grab the update. Enjoy!
