LG AX585 Rhythm, a slider for music lovers released by Alltel

Alltel Wireless, the fifth largest American mobile provider, teamed up with LG Electronics in order to develop and release a new music phone, manufactured by the South Korean company. The new device is called LG AX 585, also known under the name of Rhythm. The name is quite suggestive, if you ask me, so the handset is aimed at true audiophiles, as it is provided with a DSP and graphic equalizer tuned by Mark Levinson, the famous designer of home theater audio systems.

Looking very much like another LG music phone, namely the KM500, the LG Rhythm is a slider that comes with en enormous navigation wheel and with music-dedicated keys. Compared to KM500’s music keys, though, the keys of Rhythm are sensitive to touch, which makes the phone a whole lot cooler.
Other features of the LG Rhythm include: CDMA / EV-DO connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0, a FM transmitter to stream tracks to a car stereo or any other receiver from a distance of up to 10 feet away using a 3.5 mm stereo headset connection, MP3 player, Mark Levinson audio technology, City ID (which is a pre-loaded application), 3D graphics for a better gaming experience, Web video streaming, Instant Messaging, SMS, Picture and Video messaging, Voice Activated Command, notepad, calculator, alarm clock, stop watch and microSD cards for external memory of up to 8GB. In addition, the AX585 also features a 1.3 Megapixel camera, which will most probably offer photos of a medium quality, provided with zoom and camcorder. You can view the pictures you took on the 2-inch display, provided with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

Weighing 3.96 ounces (112 ounces) and measuring, when not slid, 4.55 x 1.93 x 0.65 inches (115 x 49 x 16.5 millimeters), the battery of the new slider is actually weak, as it provides only up to 2.1 hours of talk-time or up to 130 hours of stand-by time.
LG Rhythm comes in two colors, either black or white, and can be purchased from Alltel, for a price of 119.99 USD with a two-year contract agreement.
