Motorola rugged cell phones coming out on January 13

It seems that the beginning of 2009 is prolific for Motorola, as the company has just unveiled two handsets, the Motorola A3100 and MOTO W233, also known under the name of Renew, and announced, in addition, the release date of another device, the Tundra VA76r, which is expected to become available via the largest carrier from North America, AT&T Mobility.

Like other rugged cell phones that you are already familiar with, the Tundra VA76r is equipped with all sorts of features that make it perfect in order to withstand harsh weather conditions, fulfilling the needs of those who are looking for durable devices. Therefore, this new generation of Motorola rugged cell phones was created according to the Military Standard MIL-STD 810F specifications which refer to dust, humidity, rain, differences of temperatures, drop and vibration. In addition, the flip phone comes with the very well known Push-to-Talk capabilities and the CrystalTalk Plus technology which reduces the noise.

The Motorola Tundra is already available in Canada via Rogers, but it was released there under the name of Motorola Extreme.

The features of this rugged cell phone include: quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz), a dual band HSDPA connectivity (850 / 1900 MHz), a 2.2 inch internal display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and 262 k colors and a 1.05 inch external display with a resolution of 96 x 80 pixels, a 2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, an integrated GPS receiver, A-GPS support, an MP3 and MP4 player, the AT&T Navigator service, an internal memory of 100MB which can be expanded with a microSD card of up to 8GB and a standard USB connector.

Measuring 3.85 x 2.1 x 0.94 inches and weighing 4.94 ounces, the Motorola Tundra provides up to 5.9 hours of talk time and up to 14 days of stand-by time.

“On the surface, Tundra looks like a nearly indestructible phone for contractors, landscapers and other tough work environments”, said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president of Devices for AT&T Mobility. In addition, he said that “it’s also an attractive phone for a wide variety of consumers who are rough on their phones. Tundra answers that call”, as Motorola is a well known company in the area of rugged cell phones.

The device is expected to become available starting January 13 with a price of $199, after a $50 mail-in rebate. The only condition is for you to sign a 2-year contract.
