Motorola i365

Sprint launched the Motorola i365, another rugged cell phone but in a bar design this time, unlike the other Sprint new phone we wrote about yesterday, which comes in a clamshell form factor.

For those that prefer bar phones, Motorola i365 measures 5.3 x 2.1 x 1.2 inches (134.62mm x 53.34mm x 30.48mm) at 6.7 ounces (190g) and runs with the Iden 800/900 MHz technology, sporting a 130 x 130 display of 64K colors. Great for harsh environments, the handset operates for up to 300 minutes in talking mode using a standard Li-Ion battery, supporting humidity, blowing rain, dust, shock and vibration.

The iDEN technology uses radio transceivers to digitize and process high volumes of voice and data through a single channel, and works with Time Division Multiple Access technology for multiple access, as well as packet data. Handsets with this technology enabled function as digital wireless telephones, nationwide and International 2-way radios, use packet data for Internet access, 2-way email and text messaging, and have also wireless modem capabilities.

You can use it to transfer files wirelessly via Bluetooth, and benefit from the Nextel Direct Connect1, a service optimized for communications that enables Direct Connect for push-to-talk, Group Connect for conversations with up to 20 subscribers simultaneously, International Direct ConnectSM for connecting from the US to other users from Canada and Mexico, Direct TalkSM backup push-to-talk communication for short range, Direct SendSM to send images and information to other compatible handsets, and NextMail for sending voice messages to mail addresses.

Other services supported by the new cell phone are: Second Line Service that adds a second line to the phone for business or personal, Multimedia Messaging Service for sending audio, pictures, text or all at a time, GPS Navigation for visual and audible turn-by-turn directions, Time/Date, VibraCall Alert for the incoming communication, and Speakerphone.

Sprint provides it at a price of $89.99 with a 2-year agreement.
