New Samsung camera phones recently “baptized”

Two new Samsung camera phones that could be seen in the spotlight in the past couple of weeks, the S5600 and the S5230, both touchscreen devices, have just been baptized by the South Korean company with new “trade names”.

The S5600 will be referred to from now on as Samsung Preston, while the second handset, the S5230, will be known under the name of Samsung Star. As usual, because this is how companies handle the situation, the two cell phones will have these names in several countries where they will be available, but not in all markets.

“Samsung Star and Samsung Preston are significant additions to our full-touch screen mobile portofolio, featuring all the essential functions in one single device”, said JK Shin, the executive vice president and head of Mobile Communications division at Samsung Electronics. He further added that “I am pretty confident that the products will be one of our historical best selling mobiles. Focusing on our consumer-oriented strategy, Samsung will deliver various full touch products for every lifestyle”.

The S5230 comes with 2.5G network support, a 3.0 inch WQVGA full touch screen, the TouchWiz user interface with mobile widgets, the “Photo Contact” feature, that gives the user the chance to call a contact whenever the appointed image is touched, a 3.2 megapixel camera with video recording capabilities at 15 frames per second, multi-format and DNSe, accelerometer, QWERTY soft keyboard, music recognition by using Shazam’s “Find Music” service, an internal memory of 50MB and an external memory (provided by a card) of no more than 8GB.

As for the other device, the S5600, here’s what you can find on its board: 3G network support, full Internet browsing support, accelerometer support, 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity, a 2.8 inch QVGA full touch screen, the TouchWiz user interface, the Gesture Lock feature, a 3.2 megapixel camera, Music Recognition with the Find Music service, multi-codec support (H.263, MPEG4 and WMV are included), a more generous memory of 80MB and a microSD card support for no more than 8GB. The phone is expected to become available in three color versions, such as Charcoal Grey, Snow White and Sweet Pink.

While the first one is already being sold in several countries across Europe (in the United Kingdom is known as the Samsung Tocco Lite), the second one is said to start selling in Europe and Asia from this month (May, to be more precise).
