Nokia 6216 classic, the company’s third NFC phone

Because there isn’t other better way for a company to release its products than popular events that are highly anticipated by both manufacturers from all over the world and consumers, Nokia decided to launch its third NFC phone during the third edition of the WIMA conference, which takes place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. The device is called Nokia 6216 classic and it was announced a year ago.

The phone is actually the first one to be a SIM-based NFC handset with the Nokia name on it. The 6216 gives operators the chance to “build NFC services on the SIM card”. But if you wonder what the NFC does, let me tell that it helps the users to more easily use the phone, to share content, like images, weblinks, audio files or contact data, and, of course, to do more secure transactions of all sorts (payment and ticketing).

According to Wikipedia, the “Near Field Communication or NFC is a short-range high-frequency wireless communication technology which enables the exchange of data between devices over a 10 centimeter (around 4 inches) distance. The technology is a simple extension of the ISO/IEC 14443 proximity-card standard (contactless card, RFID) that combines the interface of a smartcard and a reader into a single device”.

But NFC is not everything about the 6216 mobile phone. So, the list of features includes GSM/EDGE connectivity, 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, WCDMA connectivity, 850/2100 MHz, a 2 inch TFT display with a QVGA resolution and 16.7 million colors, a 2 megapixel camera, the S40 user interface, Bluetooth connectivity, an internal memory of 22 MB and a microSDHC card slot for expandable memory of no more than 8GB.

Measuring 114.7 x 47.1 x 14.5 millimeters and weighing 88 grams, the phone provides up to 3 hours of talk time and no more than 300 hours of stand-by time.

The Nokia 6216 is expected to start selling in selected markets in the third quarter of this year with a retail price of approximately $195.
