Nokia 6220

Nokia 6220 Classic is a smartphone, it is compact and has plenty of facilities for a good quality image. Its advantages include a Xenon flash, active lens, 30 fps VGA video camera, TV-Out with a quality sound, GPS, HSDPA and Feature Pack 2, which pleasantly decorates the user interface.
Nokia 6220 Classic is a Symbian phone that takes photography seriously. The Xenon flash, the active lens and the implementing of the best S60 edition interface represent the strengths in the sale. Because the price is reasonable, it is hard to compete with it (about 260 euro or 380 U.S. dollars). From the virtually point of view, no other device with similar qualities can exceed 6220 Classic’s offers. It has a weakness: the lack of WiFi.
The sales package has an unusual shape, because is wide and thin. Still, all the necessary fit in here: the TV-Out and USB cable, the charger, the handsfree, a 1GB card and the manuals. The phone's dimensions are 108x47x15 mm. Those are not impressive dimensions, but are good for a smartphone. This phone fits easily in the pocket, weighing just 90 grams, the only phone, which could beat it is Nokia 6120 Classic, which weighs 89 grams.

A positive part is that the materials used do not allow fingerprints to stay on the surface of the phone. The 900mAh Li-Ion battery should resist 250 hours in standby mode or three and a half hours in talk time. In reality, the battery resists for 2 days. If you use it only for calling, the battery can resist 4 days.
One thing you can rely on Nokia is the display, on which we enjoy a good picture quality and a good readability in the sunlight. We are pleased with the contrast and the strong brightness. In addition, the phone comes with an ambient light sensor.
With Nokia 6220 Classic, you will not have concerns in terms of sound quality. The phone offers an exceptional quality of the speaker and the sound is very clear during a call. At the vibrations chapter, the phone behaves OK, although it could be better than that. Like any Symbian, it has a built-in voice recognition system, which does a good job, being fully independent from the speaker. It also has an automatic message reader, which will read all your new messages, after you press and hold a little the left selection key. The Symbian on 6220 has an excellent address book, with unlimited virtual capacities. All the internal memory can theoretically be used to save the contacts, but do not believe that this will be necessary. Contacts can be ordered freely by name or surname, and can be searched by gradual typing. If the Log application is accessed, a detailed list of all the communications made in the last 30 days will appear, including messages, calls and data transfers. This period can be shortened as much as you consider necessary to save the internal memory of the phone.

The message editor does a good job, since this is a smartphone, it supports SMS, MMS, Email, the first ones with intuitive editor that has a counter of characters starting at 160 and that they show you in how many parts the message will be divided. The only negative part is the bad keyboard. Nokia 6220 Classic has an audio message editor that allows you to register or to use a previously recorded clip. The customer can download only titles or a full message. There is also support for attachments, signatures and almost everything you need for your phone to handle almost any requests from the user.
The music player is still a strong point of the applications in Nokia 6220 Classic. It supports MP3, AAC, eAAC + and WMA files and the playlists are managed without mistakes and the files are added by the simple touching of the Refresh Library option. The sorting of songs by artist, album, genre or composer is automatically and the search is done gradually. You can also use a card reader for music transfers via Bluetooth or download them directly to your PC. Nokia 6220 Classic has Bluetooth 2.0 with stereo A2DP support. The audio quality is a pleasant surprise, with one of the best response frequency that we have ever met. I recommend the Real Player because it has an accelerometer, which lets you view the videos vertically or horizontally. When viewing in full-screen mode, the virtual keys are hidden so they cannot ruin the video. The FM radio has a simple and intuitive aspect, being able to automatically store your favorite frequencies.

The gallery is not impressive, being a Feature Pack2, because it has no 3D view and no reasonable slideshow and all images can be viewed only in a horizontal position. You can zoom up to 8x maximum, but overall, switching between pictures and the zooming is fast enough, without pause moments between the images. Nokia 6220 Classic has a 5-megapixel camera with a maximum resolution of 2592x1944 pixels. It has auto focus, active lens cover, Xenon flash and additional light of AF assist. The only problem is the location of the camera flash, under the lens, which affects the picture’s clarity in low light, and some strange lines appear in the pictures. Another useful feature of the camera is Geotagging, which works with the videos already made. We are generally pleased with the quality of the photos made with this device, the color accuracy and the shadows positioning. For video recording, the camera has a VGA resolution of 30 fps and the quality is satisfactory. The videos can be saved in an MPEG4 format and have automatic or manual adjustment of white balance.
The GPS Navigator is a pleasant surprise, in terms of sensitivity. It works with Nokia Maps, one of the software applications, which offers the most detailed maps. Moreover, it is easy to use and it is free. In Nokia Maps, you can easily customize the travel plan. The high streets, the tunnels or the crossing over the railway can be avoided. The selection of a street can be made in short road or fast road mode. The application can be used for navigation without having a car, or you can simply close the GPS and use the electronic map.
The Web surfing is not overlooked, with an interface that can allow viewing Web pages, both vertically and horizontally at a reasonable speed, thanks to the 3G support with HSDPA.

Another thing that can be highlighted is the calendar that is very well structured, with many possibilities for customizing the private notes and can be synchronized either via Bluetooth or data cable.
Nokia 6220 Classic also contains a converter for various units of measure, a calculator with two modes: simple and scientific and two games that have raised smiles while testing the phone for you.

Summarizing the testing of the Nokia 6220 Classic, we can say that it stands out with a very good price, taking into consideration all its advantages, including the assets: image, interface, its high degree of personalization and Feature Pack 2. However, we cannot overlook the lack of the WiFi connection, which is a minus that Nokia 6220 Classic receives.
