Nokia E75

Nokia E75 has been one of the most expected phones of 2009. Nokia E75 has a new design, focusing on the QWERTY slide keyboard. The screen is also large, so the phone can be used easier. Compared with E71 or E63, Nokia E75 is narrow, so it is a lot easier to hold it in your hand.
Nokia E75 comes in a medium size box. Inside it, we find the recharger, the microUSB cable, the handsfree headphones, a 4 GB microSD card, the software CD, and a lot of books and leaflets, and a Quick Start guide.
I expected Nokia E75 to be bigger than it actually is. At least, I did not expect it to be 14.4 mm thick, because it has a full QWERTY keyboard. The phone is 111.8 mm length and 50 mm width. It weights 139 grams, with 12 grams more than Nokia E71. What I mean is that phones with full QWERTY keyboards are not as large and heavy like in the old days.
Nokia E75 has a pleasant design. The phone is available in three colors: black, red and brown. The phone's front side is made from metal, which gives an elegant and stylish appearance. The keyboard gives the impression, when touching it, that it is a little sticky. In fact, they used a softer material for a better contact. Even with the QWERTY keyboard opened, the phone remains compact.

In the front side, the phone has the ambient light sensor, the secondary camera for video calls and the speakerphone. Under these, we have a 2.4 inch TFT screen which occupies half of the phone's front side. The alphanumeric keypad is located under the screen. The eight buttons around the directional key are quite cramped, so it is not very convenient to use it. If you have large fingers, you will be able to click on them without any problems. The keys on the last row are placed too low, so it is difficult to keep the phone well in your hand and to push the buttons too. On the left side, the phone has a microUSB port and the microSD memory card slot. Both are protected against the ingress of dust particles with some rubber caps. On the right side, E75 has four buttons. Here we find the button which activates the camera, two keys for the volume control and a voice command key. Also on the right side, but a little lower we find the opening for the hand strap. On the left side at the bottom we find the charger slot. It was placed near the microphone.

At the top side, the phone has a 3.5 mm jack for the handsfree headset. It does not have a protective cover, but it is well placed. It will be easy for you to listen to music using the headphones, without being disturbed by the phone in your pocket. The back side looks great. A stainless steel cap, surrounded by a matte black plastic, covers the battery. Besides the speaker, here we find the 3.2 megapixel camera, the LED flash and a mini mirror for self portrait. The Li-Ion BL-4U battery has 1000 mAh. Here I think that Nokia made a compromise to keep the phone at a reasonable weight. Unfortunately, the amount is quite small for a phone that will be used a lot. We must remember that Nokia E71 has been praised for its 1500 mAh battery. Nokia E75 offers us a range of about 280 hours in stand-by in 2G network, 264 hours in 3G network , 5 hours and 20 minutes of talk time in 2G network and 4 hours and 12 minutes in 3G network . If you will listen to music, the battery will resist approximately 25 hours. I am sure that if you use it a lot, you will need to charge the battery every day.
Because of the QWERTY keyboard, you can type a message very fast. Whether you are a businessman who often sends e-mails or you use it to stay in touch with friends via SMS, you will see that writing them is a pleasure.

Although Nokia E75 is a business phone, the multimedia functions are not bad. Let us start with the music player. This is the standard music player that we find on all Symbian S60 phones. It is enough to listen to music from time to time. It is good that the phone has a 3.5 mm audio jack, so you can connect any headphones you want. The player comes with five equalizer presets, but you can customize the presets if you want to. Nokia E75 has Bluetooth and A2DP support, which means that you can listen to stereo music using Bluetooth headphones. The sound quality is quite poor. There are small and cheap MP3 players that do a better job than this phone does.
The camera has 3.2 megapixels and flash LED. It is not the best phone camera you have ever seen. The video capture is done at a VGA resolution of 640 x 480 pixels with 30 fps. The video player is the well known Real Player. It can play 3GP and MP4 movie formats, in both portrait mode and landscape mode. Unfortunately, it does not support DivX or Xvid, but you can, at any time, install another video player to see movies in this format. If you want to listen to your favorite radio station, Nokia E75 gives you the opportunity to receive radio signal using the built-in FM radio with RDS. The radio is the same one that we find in Nokia E71. The interface is similar. The radio is able to automatically scan for radio stations in your area.

Nokia E75 is rich in connectivity functions, showing us that it is a business phone. We will be able to use Bluetooth and the microUSB port for data transfer. Connecting to the internet is easy; you can choose between WiFi and HSDPA, which means that you will have a good speed for data transfer. Surfing the Internet with E75 is a pleasant experience. The browser succeeds in making the Web pages look good on a medium-sized screen.
The calendar looks good, and it gives you the opportunity to see events daily, weekly or monthly. You can add many types of events; and of course, you can add alarms to these events. The Office applications are not missing. All Nokia Symbian phones come with QuickOffice, which lets you view Word, Excel or Powerpoint files. Nokia E75 knows how to open this kind of files, and it gives you the possibility of modifying them.

Nokia E75 has GPS too. The preinstalled navigation application is Nokia Maps 2.0. The maps are ok, but you will have to pay a license if you want to have voice navigation too. You can try Google Maps, which is free, but, as well as Nokia Maps, it does not have voice navigation.
Nokia E75 is a good phone for a business man, because of the good time management functions, as well as for the easy way to write emails. However, it is not for you if you want a phone with advanced multimedia features.
