What is a smartphone actually? Well, we can say for sure that it is smart, it is advanced, it has every possible feature that you can think of, it invaded the market and you see it being used by everyone. But there are several smartphones out there. You can find basic ones that offer touch screens and don’t have operating systems such as Android, Windows or so, they have the proprietary company’s OS. Such an example is Samsung Wave, which runs on Bada. These are designed for entry-level users who are starting to own their first advanced phone and they just want to get the feel of it, without having to a lot of money.
Afterwards, you get the multimedia smartphones, which focus on the camera, media player, and video recording capabilities, have lots of internal storage and so on. And then you have the super advanced headsets, which are packed with more than you need and you surely need to give them some time until you get to know all their features and characteristics. Along the time we have saw a lot of smartphones entering the market and we were surprised on how much they can offer. The iPhone was indeed in top and started the rage of touch screen phones. But even Apple decided to make a change when pulling out the 4 and 4S models, with a change in design and new interface, new version of operating system and so. But it is not only Apple that has captured users’ attention. Samsung also came with its Galaxy S and Android operating system. It is also declared that Android is the best, it provides a very nice interface, lots of menus to scroll up to and to customize, not to mention Android Market, from where you can download thousands of applications and games, both free and paid. And believe it or not, smartphones are starting to have processors and internal RAM memory, so it seems the limit has not been settled yet. What is more, HTC has come with a 3D mobile phone. You don’t need glasses to see 3D pictures and to record 3D videos; you will be able to feast your eyes just like that. Of course the quality is not outstanding, but it is one step towards something new. And also, the 2D quality of the phone is to appreciate.

Among the must-have capabilities of a smartphone we have to include GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a high resolution camera with video recording capabilities, a large and responsive touch screen, accelerometer (to switch the screen orientation from portrait to landscape), microSD card slot and so on. If you are for a treat, you can surely check out some of the best smartphones so far, including iPhone 4S of course, Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Nexus, HTC Thunderbolt, Motorola Droid Bionic. These all have the mentioned features. But in case you are looking for a tablet more or less, you can choose Samsung Galaxy Note, which brings a 5” touch screen and a stylus, making it easier to take notes.

To conclude, a smartphone is something ordinary in these times, but perhaps the next technologies we are about to see will not be as ordinary as expected. So far, we can surely get the most on what we are offered.
