Sony Ericsson K660i

The Sony Ericsson brand is recognized by its mobile phones which combine a beautiful design with a lot of performance. The Sony Ericsson K660i is a cell phone with a superb combination of web-friendly design and the most usual features.

The design makes the phone look like a candy-bar with a pleasant combination of colors like black with purple or lime with white. The chrome edges and glossy plastic surfaces, even if they attract many fingerprints and grease, they do make this phone look more attractive.

The Sony Ericsson K660i has only 95g in weight and 104 x 47 x 15 mm dimensions. The case is made of resistant plastic with rounded corners so it feels pretty comfortable in your hands. The 2 inch TFT display with a native resolution of 240 x 320 pixels supports 256k colors. Even if this display is not that good you will be satisfied by the quality of pictures. The numberpad has round keys, very responsive, with generous space between them so you can easily press or write with them. Very similar with the K810i, this phone has a D-pad, two softkeys, plus the call and end buttons. With these keys and the typical Activity Menu button you can easily navigate main menu or surf the internet. The D-pad, even if it offers you a better control, it’s more of a disadvantage for this kind of mobile phone because in time it will break and you need to replace it.

Because this is a phone for medium class, you will not beneficiate the latest technology. The Sony Ericsson K660i is a HSDPA / GMS (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) mobile phone. Also, it has only a few connectivity features. The GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE and 3G features plus the Bluetooth and the USB port will be enough to help you stay in touch with your friends. Like other mobile phones this one also has many features like SMS, EMS, MMS, EMAIL, WAP 2.0, RSS feeds, Java MIDP 2.0, FM Radio with RDS plus the basic applications like alarm clock, timer, stopwatch, organizer, picture editor and calculator.

The Sony Ericsson K660i has a 2.0 Megapixel camera which takes photos at a maximum 1600 x 1200 pixels resolution which is enough for this kind of cell phone. The camera can also record clips but with a poor quality. An important feature of this phone is the secondary VGA camera which allows you to make video-calls. The internal memory has only 32 MB of free space which is modest for music mobile, but if you want it can be extended to a maximum 2 GB with a Memory Stick Micro memory card.

Because this mobile is a non-Walkman branded model, it is pretty good for listening to music. The music player interface is similar to the Walkman interface which includes an equalizer with special settings for BoostBass, loop and shuffle features. The external speakers produce a clear and loud sound but if you attach the supplied earphones you will get a louder sound with enough bass like the Walkman models. The 6-cell battery will keep this mobile phone up for 9 hours talk time and 330 hours in standby mode. This is pretty good for a mobile phone which doesn’t have many features. In conclusion, if you want a practical and attractive mobile phone, you can consider this model a good deal. Because it is a medium-class phone it costs only $230.

Samsung Omnia Pro

Because in our days mobile phones are an indispensable accessory and the touch screen technology is proven to be very useful, the Samsung Company came with a new mobile phone named Samsung Omnia Pro B7610. This model is similar to the Samsung Jet but it has more interactive features.

The Samsung Omnia Pro B7610 is a side slider mobile phone that comes with a full QWERTY keyboard. At 112.6 x 57.8 x 16.2 mm dimensions and 159 g total weight, this mobile phone looks very slim and light for a side slider phone. When you slide the phone up you will see large buttons which are arranged on 4 rows so you can easily write SMS or other texts.

The resistant plastic case with rounded corners and the red light-reflecting design elements make this phone look extraordinarily. The 3.5 inch AMOLED display which supports 16 million colors occupies almost entire front face. The screen has a native resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and you will from the perfectly clear and great quality images. On the left and right side you will find the screen lock/unlock button, the volume rocker, camera shutter and another button used to switch between Life and Work profiles.

The Samsung Omnia Pro B7610 is a Windows Mobile 6.1 device with a Touch Wizz 2.0 interface which makes it more personalized than the older models. Like the previous Samsung Omnia model, this phone has a 5 Megapixel camera which takes photos at a maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. The integrated LED flash, autofocus, smile detection, ISO sensitivity and white balance helps you get the perfect photos even if you are in a poorly lit room. With this camera you can record clips with VGA resolution at 30 fps which is pretty low for a contemporary mobile phone with such a lot of performance.

But let’s talk about connectivity. The Samsung Omnia Pro B7610 is a Quad-band GSM phone which supports 3G with HSDPA and EDGE connectivity. The standard microUSB port, Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP and the Wi-Fi with DLNA feature allows you to stay in touch with your friends in any circumstances. Other features like the GPS with a-GPS, TV-out functionality or Built-in accelerometer make this phone one of the best gadgets on the market.

With a 800 MHz processor with a dedicated graphics accelerator and 256 MB of RAM memory, this gadget looks like a Pocket PC more than a mobile phone. The 2 GB of integrated free memory is more than sufficient for a mobile phone, but if you want more space, you can upgrade the memory up to 32 GB with a microSD card.

The integrated stereo speakers produce clear and quality sound but, if you want an even better sound quality, you have a standard 3.5 mm audio jack which allows you to attach any external speakers you want. The standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery will keep this mobile up for 6 hours and 48 minutes of conversations and up to 480 hours in standby mode. So if you want a top mobile phone and are willing to pay $662 we recommend that you choose this model because it has all you need.

Nokia 6300

If you do not have a large sum of money and you want to buy a practical phone, but with an innovative design, then the Nokia 6300 phone may be one of your best choices. With a  robust, compact and slim case, this mobile phone has only 106 x 43.6 x 11.7 mm dimensions and a total weight of 91 grams.

The stainless steel cage makes this phone very resistant against scratches and shocks. The combination between silver and glossy black gives an ergonomic aspect for this handset, but like all glossy surfaces, this is like a magnet for fingerprints so you need to clean it every time.

The Nokia 6300 has a big TFT screen with a native resolution of 240 x 320 pixels which occupies almost entire front of the phone. The display supports 16 million colors which offer you a great quality image. There are only two external keys: one is the volume key and other is the power button. On the botton of this phone you will find the miniUSB port, charger port and a 2.5 mm jack.

On the back of this phone you can find the external speaker and the 2 Megapixels camera which allows you to take pictures at a maximum resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels. This camera includes a 8x digital zoom which  is not that good even if it has many features like self-timer, night mode or white balance. Because this handset lacks flash, self-portrait mirror and auto-focus, the quality of photos will not be very satisfactory.  With this camera you can record clips but at a very small resolution of only 176 x 144 pixels.

The keys are made of plastic but with a shiny silver texture which offer a great feeling when you press them. They are not very big but neither too small, so you can text SMS messages without problems. The 4-way key and the 2 contextual keys help you to navigate the menu easily.

Because Nokia 6300 is a mobile phone which is supposed to have some great features, we need to talk about connectivity.  This handset lacks 3G connectivity but you have the other connectivity features like:  EDGE, GPRS, HSCSD (High-Speed Circuit-Switcher Data) and Bluetooth.  The USB port allows you to connect this phone to transfer files to a desktop PC or a laptop. It also is a tri-band phone (GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900) so you can use it in many networks. The microSD card slot is designed to extend the memory of this phone to a maximum 2 GB. This is awesome since the internal memory has only 7.8 MB of free space.

Nokia 6300 has an ARM9 Family processor at 238 MHz which is not the best processor but you will not get lag when you are surfing the internet or using other applications.  Like the most new mobile phones, it supports MP3, AAC and eAAC+ formats so you can listen to music anytime.

This phone also has a music player, FM radio, streaming 3GPP, an XHTML browser, JAVA and Macromedia Flash Lite 2.0 for access to digital complex content. The Li-On battery will keep your phone up for more than 3 hours of conversation or 350 hours in standy mode. The package comes with a HS-47 headsets, a CD with drivers, a USB cable and the charger. Anyway, this mobile was made to impress with his slim case not with the features which can offer. For such a small price, only $135, this mobile phone is a good choice for everybody.

Nokia 5800 Xpress Music

The touch screen technology is no longer a thing of the future. Nokia Company has joined the touch screen market with the new Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, a phone which looks like an iPhone and it’s having the same success. Because it is a music phone, the touch screen technology is a feature which fits very well on this kind of mobile phone.

The touch screen mobile phones have a common design these days. The Nokia 5800 Xpress Music comes with a cage with clean lines, rounded corners and a black color scheme. The 109 grams and 4.37” x 2.04” x 0.61” dimensions  make this phone a bit thicker than the other touch screen mobile phones but it feels very comfortable in your hands.

The touch screen technology used here is very resistant under pressure and responds very well. The 3.2 inch display has a native resolution of 640 x 360 pixels and supports 16 million colors and this allows you to watch HD movies. Also, the touch screen supports handwriting recognition, feature which is missing on many other touch screen mobile phones.

For such performance Nokia 5800 Xpress Music has a single standard ARM 11 processor running at 369 MHz but you will not notice lag in any applications. The Symbian S60 operating system makes this phone look like a PC pocket. The internal memory is rather small when we think about the fact that it is a music phone. The 81 MB of internal memory can be extended to a maximum of 16 GB with a SD card which you can buy from any mobile shop.

Because this model is a music phone, it supports all audio formats. The features such as shuffle, stereo widening, equalizer and loudness boost allow this phone to play music with more bass at a great quality, thing which all the music listeners prefer. This phone has some one of the best stereo speakers that we have ever heard but if you are not satisfied by these you can take advantage of the 3.5mm audio jack and attach another set of speakers. Like the other mobile phones, this model has a FM Radio.

The Nokia 5800 Xpress Music supports 3G HSDPA internet browsing and the WiFi feature allows you to stay in touch with your friends via internet all the time. Thanks to the operating system, this mobile has a Webkit-based web browser which is powerful and greatly optimized. If you want to take some pictures or record clips, the 3.2 Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash, autofocus and 3x digital zoom helps you get the best results. You can take photos at a maximum 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution which is satisfactory for a 3.2 Megapixels camera. The video recording feature allows you to record clips at 640 x 480 pixel resolution with 30 fps. The secondary camera gives you the opportunity to make video calls, another feature which is common these days.

The Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is a quad-band GSM phone which comes with more connectivity options. The Wifi 802.11 b/g, HSDPA 900/2100 compatibility, High-Speed Circuit-Switched Data and the GPRS class offers you a lot of connectivity to keep in touch with your friends in any situation. The A-GPS function and the Bluetooth offer you a faster localization. In conclusion, the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is a smartphone and a music phone which does his job very well. And if you are concerned about the price, it costs $292 - a price tag which makes it a real competitor for the Nokia N Series or iPhone.

Nokia 1600

If you are not a technology fan and don’t want to pay a lot of money on a mobile phone, you can choose the Nokia 1600, a basic phone which was introduced on the market in 2005. At a price of $29 you get enough technology to stay in touch with your friends at any time. This mobile has a slim plastic case with a combination of gray and silver.

Because the Nokia 1600 is a basic phone, it doesn’t have a lot of new features. The most important features which are missing on this phone are the camera (so you cannot take pictures or record clips), Bluetooth connection (so you cannot connect with other computers or phones), USB connection (so you cannot transfer any data on your PC) and the WAP (you cannot access the internet with this phone). With this phone the Nokia officials wanted to offer the world a basic phone that can call or send SMS without having a lot of technology. This mobile phone has a weight of 85g and 104 x 45 x 17 mm dimensions and it feels pretty comfortable in your hands.

The Nokia 1600 has 4 MB of free memory for some basic pictures, because the 96 x 68 pixels display supports only 65k colors. This phone also has some basic polyphonic ring-tones and only 3 Java games. Even if you want more Java games it is not possible because there is no downloadable Java applications for this mobile. But with such a small display you will not be satisfied by the quality of images.

The phonebook can store only 200 contacts which is quite a low number for a phone in our days. A positive aspect of this phone is its security. You can set up a pin code on your mobile or on your SIM card; you can put a pin code for unlocking the keypad or for entering menu. Practically you can put a pin code to block any action you want. This is a good thing if you are a business man and don’t want people messing around with your phone.

The basic calculator, converter, stop watch, count down, alarm clock, reminder and the calendar aren’t missing here. These features are useful and very easy to use. The speaking clock is an attractive feature which tells you what time it is. Press and hold the “*” button you will hear a female voice which tells you what’s the time.

The Nokia 1600 is a Dual-band GSM (GSM E850 / 1900 and E900 / 1800) phone. The Li-On battery will keep your phone up for more than 4 hours of conversation or 450 hours in standby mode. This is an impressive aspect because you can use it for a long time without the need to recharge it.

The phone comes with a battery, a charger and a manual. The headphones are not included but if you want a pair of these you can buy them for just $5. Because Nokia 1600 is a basical phone, it doesn’t have a lot of features which can make you proud. But if you want a simple and cheap mobile phone, that’s what you need.
