Old Motorola Radios Maxon

Motorola is one of the most popular communications companies in the world and its role as a pioneer in the development of this industry is recognized worldwide. It all started in 1928 under the name of Galvin Manufacturing Corporation a company that was producing power adaptors that were allowing the electrical devices that were running on batteries to operate at the outlet.

From walkie-talkie’s three kilograms to tiny transceiver stations today, Motorola was one of the leading providers of communications equipment for critical sectors such as police, rescue or construction.

In the 30’s and 40’s Motorola has brought entertainment in American homes with radio and then TV. Also, Motorola processors were the basis for development of computer company Apple and for other devices that use microchips. With the first DynaTAC in 1983, Motorola has participated in writing the history of mobile telephony.

In 1936, Motorola Police Cruiser is released and it was working as a modified radio receiver to capture a single frequency. Next year marks the company’s entry in the segment of households with the launch line of home appliances phonograph and radio. The company launched Handy-Talkie SCR536, a transceiver station that would be widely used in the Second World War in 1941, Galvin Manufacturing launches the first commercial radio in two frequencies, AM and FM. FM transmission technology allowed a much better sound than the PM. The first FM system is installed in Pennsylvania. In 1943, Daniel Noble, chief technology of the company, made the first FM transceiver System, weighing over 15 kilograms and having a range of 20 to 30 kilometers. The station was for the U.S. military.

Later on, Motorola launches a paging service which transmitted a radio signal to a person. Pagers start replacing announcement systems in hospitals and factories. In 1985 the company introduced the first completely transistorized radio, Motrac, which, because low consumption, can be used in the car without the need to start the engine. In 1960, Motorola sales are approaching 300 million dollars. Also this is the year when they release the Astronaut TV which measures 19 inch, the largest diagonal of a television until then.

Towards the end of the seventh decade, the company is expanding abroad to Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Taiwan, Britain and West Germany. In 1969, Neil Armstrong’s first words are brought to Earth By Motorola transponder. There were sent two-way audio files, video, telemetry signals and guidance. In the eight decade, the company’s sales were approaching one billion dollars. Motorola continues collaboration with NASA, providing a radio transmitter that is installed on the lunar module. The receiver is 100 times more sensitive than a portable radio, although weighing only 680 grams.

Late 80’s showed a big step in radio based on chips made by Motorola and Maxon, which facilitated the way to the hand radios and then appeared the old motorola radios maxon. The old motorola radios maxon are extremely rare.

Maxon Australia was founded in 1989 and is a private company. Since 1990 they are focused on solutions and wireless data development and they progressed passing through the time of synthesized RF data modems and crystal controlled modems, the time of CMDA circuit switch and packet data technologies. Nowdays, they are among the few companies that develop hardware functioning on wireless networks.

Lots of costumers from various harsh environments used for more than 30 years Maxon 2-way radio. Even they are reporting that when somebody ask them about the Maxon 2-way radios they can describe it in two words: “dependable” and “trusted”.

Best Smart Phones Australia

Which one is the best smart phone? Well… This depends on what is important for you. Even if you read the latest reviews you could still be confused about which smart phone you would like to buy.

If you are looking for the best aesthetic, Apple iPhone 3G and the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 might be the best. For Best Usability the winner is Apple

iPhone 3G followed by Nokia E71 and the HTC Touch Diamond.

iPhone 3G has superb parts but still needs some big features on it, and price is pretty big not everyone can afford to buy one. It has a simple design and maybe that’s the key, and the typical characteristic for Apple’s products. Because of it’s  simplicity this phone is delivered without a manual in it’s box. But there are people that said that they needed Google several times to search for methods on how to perform certain tasks.

Even if it’s still not a 3G phone, the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 it’s impressively lightweight -91g-  and very slim. But the improving in the BlackBerry is the dual-input QWERTY keypad with it’s keys that share two letters.

Nokia E71 comes with a sexy design being sleeker than Nokia E61 i. The good things at this phone are full QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth, feature-rich, Wi-Fi, GPS and HSDPA. It has an excellent battery life and strong voice, productivity tools and messaging. The bad parts are the facts that it’s keyboard is a bit cramped and the display is positioned on the small side.

Performance is important to, as with any computer system best performance is a must. Even if they test your patience seriously, smartphones impair productivity. But in this category -Best Performance- on the first place is ranked the BlackBerry Pearl 8120, followed by i-mate Ultimate 6150.

The i-mate Ultimate 6150 has an excellent VGA display and a fast 520 MHz processor with XGA TV-Out and excellent connectivity options. Too bad that it has a dismal battery life and it’s large and has a  heavy handset. The Ultimate 6150 is far from being named the fastest Windows Mobile device that is currently available.

On connectivity the best is i-mate Ultimate 8502 because it has 3.5G data speeds, USB connections, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. On the second place is i-mate Ultimate 9502 and on the third one is i-mate Ultimate 6150. So, if you want the phone with the best connectivity you probable should get an i-mate Ultimate.

All the smartphones have useful features included but none has them all. Nokia E71 seem have most of the features that are available now for the mobile phones. The Nokia E71 is followed by the i-mate Ultimate 9502 and by the Apple iPhone 3G.

Nokia E71 is the winner for Best Value category and is followed by Apple iPhone 3G and Samsung I 780.

The Samsung SGH-i780 has a separate charger and two batteries and could be a good choice for the mobile professional. But it has the screen to small for some applications 2.5 inch display and it’s a bit bulky. It has a good mini-QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPRS/EDGE, connectivity, tri-band GSM and 3G/HSPDA. I is equipped with 129 MB of RAM and 256 MB of ROM but you can always add a micro SD card. You can find this phone on both Vodafone and Optus for $799 at Vodafone without maps and at Optus for about $AU849 with maps and GPS.

Best smart phone in Australia could be i-mate Ultimate 8502 for it’s basic criteria and value for money. It is solid and slim, with TV-out Telstra services including Foxtel, GPS and Wi-Fi and excellent connectivity including HSPA. Too bad that it has a low resolution display if you compared it with previous i-mates and a small QWERTY keyboard. This phone has even great greater mechanical input compared to the previous phones from Ultimate and it was the first full HSPA smartphone available in Australia together with the 9502. The bottom line: The 8502 does nothing more then what it’s supposed to do but it would be much better if it had a bigger software package.

Nokia E90 Communicator is another smart phone. It is true that is expensive but also that is the most impressive of all. This could be a suitable phone for the business people because of it’s big number of features oriented to business. After ten years of Communicator and ten Communicator phones Nokia released the E90 with a lot of Hi-Fi functions almost close to SCi-Fi but with a design that could be better. It has a QWERTY keypad and a huge display for the current standards with a resolution of 800 x 352 pixels. Using the keypad is not that easy, unless you have fingers as a piano player has. So if you are not a women with a small bag, or a obsessed of small phones with simple and original designs you could try this smart phone for sure.

HTC TyTN II is a decent Windows Mobile PDA-phone that could please the business users because of it’s features. The good things about this phone are Wi-Fi, HSDPA, Excellent QWERTY keyboard and the GPS WITH CoPilot 7 maps. Too bad that is huge with a heavy handset and a poor battery life.

Palm Treo 500v has a stand-by up to 24o hours and a talk time up to 4 hours and 30 minutes. It as a 2 Mega Pixel camera with 1600 x 1200 pixels, and the dimensions are 110 x 61.5 x 16.5 mm. It has full QWERTY keyboard and 5-way navigation button. The good things about this phone are: not carrier locked, jazzed up windows Mobile 6 Interface and the bad ones: No Wi-Fi and no HSDPA. If you want a phone with QWERTY keyboard you should go in a mobile stores and try also the BlackBerry Curve 8300 and the Palm OS-based Treo 680 and see which one you like more.

There is no best smart phone in Australia. There are more. You just have to chose the best smart phone for you, the one that suits you the best.

HTC Smartphones

HTC Touch2 is quad-band compatible and it supports 850/900/1800/1900 MHz frequency bands, and also HSDPA 900 / 2100. For a wireless Internet connection, HTC Touch2 offers both GPRS and EDGE, and of course HSDPA. In our tests, in the EDGE network, the device has reached a transfer rate of 184 Kbit / s for download and 83 Kbit / s for upload, while in the 3G network, the device has reached speeds up to 1836 Kbit / s for download and 307 Kbit / s for upload. The Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g can also be used in the available hotspots to have a higher browsing speed and to reduce costs.

For wireless data transfer between mobile phones, HTC Touch2 uses Bluetooth 2.1, whereas for data synchronization with the PC, the device offers USB 2.0. This HTC smartphone includes a built-in GPS receiver, which surprisingly works with the Google Maps application. To take advantage of voice guidance, users will have to install Copilot navigation software, for which you will need to download the necessary maps. The localization works without problems, and the pin-pointing link is very fast, even if you are inside.

HTC Touch2 is compatible with all the protocols and the e-mail clients (POP3, IMAP) and can be synchronized with your PC. The device is also compatible with SMS, EMS and MMS. The instant messaging includes Windows Live Messenger, but other IMs can also be installed. The interface is quite simple and easy to use.

The sound quality during a call is above average but could be better. The GSM signal is also good, as long as you do not keep the device set to the 3G band, where the reception is only mediocre.

HTC Touch2 includes a Qualcomm MSM7225 processor from the ARM11 family, which runs at speeds up to 528 Mhz. In general, we experienced no restraint or lag. Since the phone does not have animations or transitions, you will not have any problems when browsing the menus or when you run more applications.

The HTC smartphone includes 256MB of RAM memory and 512 MB of ROM memory. The storage space can be expanded up to 16GB via the microSD slot, which is hot-swappable.

The Internet applications include Streaming Media, which does exactly what its name suggests and is designed to be easily used with the fingers, Live Messenger and Windows Live Search, Internet Explorer for Web browsing, MSN Money, Market, and Microsoft MyPhone. The last two services are new and have been highlighted even at the officially announcement of the operating system - version 6.5. The Market service, as its name suggests, is where you can download applications compatible with Windows Mobile. The MyPhone service allows you to synchronize and save the Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Messages, photos, videos, music and documents with your MyPhone account on the PC. Basically, you get everything mentioned above, from the PC and you can add new contacts, events, and then you will be able to synchronize with your Pocket PC.

On the multimedia part, HTC Touch2 offers Windows Media Player for audio and video playback, and Pictures & Video to navigate through photos and videos and to modify the images.

Regarding the communications, the device includes Internet Sharing, which allows this HTC smartphone to be used as a modem, Communications Manager for enabling / disabling and changing settings for data connections, Bluetooth Explorer for managing the Bluetooth connection.
Then, there is a File Manager, a search tool, a Zip utility, a tool to encrypt files on the memory card, a function to reset the device and to come back to the factory settings, an application for GPS connection setup, JBlend Java emulator and a very useful Task Manager, which can be used to switch between applications and change the behavior of the "x" button to close the applications from the memory.

In general, the Pocket PCs do not receive an extra attention to the multimedia functions, but HTC Touch2 makes an exception, or at least it tries. First, HTC Touch2 includes, now, a 3.5 mm jack port, which says something. Second, the standard application used for playing audio and video is much more advanced compared to the older HTC devices, and that is because it has a sound equalizer and a very interesting interface. The music player supports files in MP3, WAV, eAAC + and WMA format files.
The sound of the music is very good, especially since you have access to a wide range of equalizer modes, but you can also make your own settings. Windows Media Player version 10 supports MP4, WMV, H.263, and H.264 video files.

The smarpthone also includes an FM radio, which can auto-scan and store up to 20 stations. The radio can be run in background or heard through the loudspeaker. There is also a YouTube customer included, which enables you watching movies on this website. In general, I had a good multimedia experience, and I think that the gap between smartphones and music phones is slowly equilibrating.

HTC Touch2 is powered by a Li-Ion 1100 mAh, which, according to the official specifications, the device offers an autonomy of up to 5 hours and 30 minutes in talk mode (6 hours and 10 minutes for 3G) and 500 hours in standby mode (370 hours for 3G).

In our tests, the battery power is exhausted after 4 hours and 43 minutes of standard use, with the backlight set to maximum. While it is far from official numbers, I would say that the battery life is satisfactory.

I was pleasantly surprised by the new HTC smartphone for medium budgets, especially as regards the design, but also a little disappointed with the new version of the operating system. While visually there are some changes, I still believe that Windows Mobile is far from the Android and iPhone in terms of performance, functionality and graphic interface. However, HTC Touch2 is a good smartphone, but only if it will sell at a lower price, otherwise I think people will look for more advanced solutions, and Android is much better at this time.

The package contains

HTC Touch2;
Li-Ion 1100 mAh battery;
Stylus;
User Guide;
Charger;
MiniUSB data cable.
