U121, a new Huawei mobile phone on the market

Huawei Technologies, the largest Chinese supplier of networking and telecommunications equipment, has just released a third generation of an old device, called Huawei U121. The first two generations of the mobile phone are the Playset, which is commercialized by Play, a Polish network, and the Vodafone 716, sold in UK.

The new Huawei mobile phone is aimed at people who are more interested in a simple wireless mobile experience, without neglecting the style features. The device is made from high-quality materials such as stainless steel, which might be used for its durability.

When it comes to the specifications, the Huawei U121 include 1 1.8 inches TFT display (with 262K color), a 1.3 megapixel CMOS camera, video capabilities, video streaming, 3.5 millimeters standard earphone jack, the possibility for expandable memory with microSD card support, support EQ, an integrated FM radio, Bluetooth 1.2, email/MMS/WAP2.0, miniUSB support and 3G connectivity.

As far as the music experience is concerned, the phone supports various formats such as MP3, AAC, AAC+ and eAAC+, while video formats it is compatible with include MP4, 3GP and 3G2. In addition, there’s a shortcut key that makes a whole lot easier the access to your favorite music.

The operating frequencies of the handset are UMTS 2100 MHz and GPRS/GSM 900/1800/1900MHZ. Measuring 103 x 45 x 14.5 millimeters and measuring 90 grams (with battery included), the 800 mAh Li-ion battery provides up to 270 hours of stand-by time (WCDMA/GSM), up to 175 minutes (GSM) and 145 minutes (WCDMA) of talk time for voice calls and up to 105 minutes of talk time for video calls.

For now, this new Huawei mobile phone is said to be available only in the Russian market. However, there are good chances for it to start selling within the United States and the rest of European countries in the near future.

Motorola clamshell cell phones for the Chinese people

The Christmas holidays are almost here and cell phones manufacturers don’t seem to spare any effort in their attempt to draw customers’ attention. More than that, they try to satisfy as many target segments as possible, releasing handsets equipped with all sorts of features, more or less impressive.

Following the example of other companies, Motorola is rumored to be preparing a wide range of mobile phones, from stunning feature-rich ones to the most “humble” low-end versions. The American company is apparently on the verge of releasing a brand new clamshell cell phone that is said to be aimed at the Chinese market. The Motorola W350 isn’t a high-class smartphone, this is obvious, but the device is perfect for standard functions such as making calls and texting.

Therefore, the W530 isn’t meant to compete with pretentious cell phones like Apple’s iPhone, but tries to satisfy the needs of simple people who’d rather buy a regular phone, than a fancy one.

As far as the features are concerned, they will certainly include a 1.3 megapixel camera (which can be ironically laughed at by the exigent public I was talking about), an internal display with a resolution of 220 x 176 pixels while the external one is 96 x 80, FM radio, 20MB of internal memory that might not be enough, so there’s also a microSD card slot for the memory to be expanded. Other features refer to quad-band GSM and support for EDGE data transfer. And that’s about all, folks!

The only information that is now available about the Motorola W350 is that it will certainly hit the Chinese market, joining other Motorola clamshell cell phones. As far as the pricing and availability, the company didn’t make any specification.

Nokia 2605 Mirage available via Verizon Online Store

Despite the fact that Americans aren’t what you could call Nokia-addicts, the Finnish corporation doesn’t seem to give up on this very important market segment. More than that, the company persists in launching new handsets in the United States, at least every once in a while.

Partnering up with Verizon, a broadband and telecommunications company, Nokia has just released a brand new mobile phone that is already available in North America. Nokia 2605, also known as Mirage, is the successor of another clamshell, Nokia 6205 (including the Dark Knight edition), that was sold by the same provider.

The small handset has a sleek design, being aimed at young people (teenagers) and fashion-conscious users. A very important thing is that Nokia 2605 can be easily customized by its owner, according to his/her lifestyle and personality. Therefore, if you don’t like the blue cover, you can always change it to different colors or patterns with the replaceable Nokia Xpress-on snaps, as Verizon names them. The snaps cover the camera, the LED screen and the battery.

Nokia 2605 Mirage is a pretty well equipped handset. The features include: a 1.8-inch TFT internal display (which has 262k colors and a resolution of 128x160 pixels), 1.2-inch CSTN external display (with 65k colors and a resolution of 128x128), a VGA camera, Bluetooth 2.0 wireless technology, Mobile Web, Verizon Navigator, built-in speakerphone, the voice recognition function and the already-mentioned Nokia Xpress-on covers.

Measuring 3.22 x 1.65 x 0.62 inches and weighing 2.32 ounces, the Mirage provides up to 210 minutes of talk time and up to 240 hours of standby time.

For those who are interested, Nokia 2605 can be purchased at the moment from the Verizon Online Store, for a price of $49.99 with a two-year agreement after a $50 mail-in rebate. The device will be available in the carrier’s retail stores a little bit later, starting January 23, 2009.

Three co-branded rugged cell phones coming next year

Several days ago I was writing about Sonim XP3 Enduro, a handset that helped the family of rugged cell phones to extend. Going way beyond the success of that certain moment, the company decided that moving on is probably the best thing that anyone could do. Therefore, Sonim Technologies has just announced their latest partnership, with Land Rover, the famous British vehicle manufacturer. This is a sign of unceasing efforts and impressive growth. I don’t know the impact this partnership will have on Land Rover’s sales, but there’s no doubt about the fact that Sonim will take advantage of this initiative.

The collaboration has a bold purpose, to design and develop three new co-branded resistant handsets that are expected to go on sale starting next year. Two of those handsets are already in work, the Land Rover S1 and the Land Rover S2 G4 that were said to be launched in the first half of 2009. As far as the third one is concerned, it doesn’t have a name for the moment and it will probably hit the market until the end of 2009. The companies have great hopes about their partnership and they expect to make several deals with top operators, to help them spread the rugged cell phones in more than 40 countries.

The three devices will closely follow the Sonim Enduro’s features, although they won’t be as tough as their predecessor. However, expect the devices to be able to withstand harsh conditions, such as salt, fog, humidity, shocks provoked by thermal factors or by the transport. More than that, you can always “drown” your cell phone, as they’re completely submersible, or throw them from an altitude of approximately 1.6 meters. Imagine that you can also exercise your creativity, throwing it from any angle you might want to choose and the Sonim cell phone will be just fine. All good things must come to an end, and so does the features-list, as there isn’t more information available about what this company is preparing.

BELLPERRE luxury cell phones

Ask the first person you run into to tell you at least one luxury cell phones manufacturer and you’d probably be answered with one of these companies: Vertu, that needs no additional description whatsoever, GoldVish or maybe Mobiado. But what about BELLPERRE? If the name doesn’t ring a bell to you, let me tell you that we’re talking about a Netherlands-based company that designs, develops and sells high-class cell phones aimed at those who enjoy having expensive devices and amazing people around them.

Trying to satisfy the needs of an exigent public, BELLPERRE creates sophisticated handsets that are meant to increase the mobile experience of the users. A very important aspect, fundamental I might say, is that you won’t get the chance to find not even a single piece made of plastic. The materials used in the production of the mobile phones are all authentic, including leather, steel or hard wood. Not to mention the sapphire crystal, the gold or the encrusted diamonds. The sapphire crystal, for example, is found on the display, to prevent it from scratching. In order to provide these luxury mobile phones with durability and strength, the frame is made of metals like aluminum, steel or titanium.

BELLPERRE has just released three new fully customizable models, called Yellow Gold, Rose Gold and the Silver Edition, that are part of the Silver and Golden (24k) BELLPERRE collection. No matter the design you prefer, you can also choose from a variety of genuine exotic leathers (100, more precisely), such as crocodile, shark, lizard and buffalo, the one that suits the best your personality. In addition, the company has also released a collection of six adorable gemstones that are meant to adorn your BELLPERRE device in the best way they possibly can.

When it comes to the features, the Tri band ones (900/1800/1900 MHz) phones are equipped with stereo Bluetooth, miniUSB, 2-inch 176x220 pixels TFT display made of unscratchable Sapphire Crystal and a camera with camcorder and video player. Compatible with Windows Mobile, the BELLPERRE mobile phones measure 100 x 44 x 15.5 millimeters and weigh 120 grams.

As far as the pricing is concerned, there is no information available, but I suppose a device like this will be expensive enough to be bought by a very exclusivist public.

(Thanks for the tip, Ted!)
