Samsung Cleo, just another phone for the ladies

Samsung CLEO is the latest device designed and developed just for the ladies, which is expected to be available in November in Canada. The handset shomehow reminds us of a LG mobile phone, the Lotus, launched by Sprint in the US, but it has a more fashionable design, not to mention the pretty cool pattern on its front case.

Samsung Electronics Canada and Bell are dialing up high style with the launch of the ultimate must-have for any text-messaging maven – the Samsung CLEO.

This is a compact and discreet handset and has a unique style that can be easily be mistaken for a make-up compact. Bringing a touch of haute couture to text messaging, the CLEO is a statement for all of the fashion addicts out there, and it features a full QWERTY keyboard, the ability to view text messaging threads and color LCD screen. This fashion-forward device will be available in pink, champagne and blue, and is also equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera, an integrated MP3 player, for music lovers, and supports 8 GB of expandable memory.

As I said it before, Bell Mobility is the company that will offer all CLEO color models across Canada, while another company, Solo Mobile (a brand owned and operated by Bell Mobility) will make available only the champagne CLEO.

Paul Brannen, General Manager, Wireless Terminal Division, Samsung Electronics Canada, said that “the Samsung CLEO will certainly keep its users’ fingertips on the pulse of technology and style’. More than that, “Samsung wanted to offer its fashion-forward customers a truly stylish and unique mobile experience and we have made that happen with the launch of the Samsung CLEO”.

Bell is also convinced that the phone is different from any other mobile devices; “The Cleo is a great cellphone capturing a uniquely elegant combination of form and function”, said Adel Bazerghi, Senior Vice President of Products at Bell. “Along with text messaging our clients will love using the QWERTY keyboard to send pictures messages and email, and access their favorite social networking sites”.

If you’re not convinced yet, let me tell you something else: Samsung is also partnering with Bell to offer the perfect holiday gift – the Kisses from CLEO gift set, which will consist of the Samsung CLEO, a decorative phone charm, a Cake Kiss mulberry sorbet lip butter and a 15% discount coupon for Cake Beauty products. The Samsung CLEO is available for as little as $49.95 on a three-year contract.

Sony Ericsson unveils the W705 Walkman Phone

Sony Ericsson announced yesterday a new product, the W705 Walkman phone, which introduces advanced wireless connectivity combined with Sony Ericsson’s best-in-class audio experience. The device was unveiled in conjunction with the MTV Europe Music Awards where the company was one of the main sponsors. The product is Sony Ericsson’s statement concerning their commitment to provide consumers with an enhanced mobile entertainment experience however they choose to consume media.

Using Wi-Fi to connect to broadband hot spots, consumers can use their W705 to go online for the best songs or most popular YouTube video clips or stream tunes wirelessly to the stylish MBS-900 speaker via Bluetooth (the MBS-900 is a wireless home audio system which was also launched yesterday). Equipped with Clear Bass, Clear Stereo and premium headphones, the W705 delivers a sound that has crystal clear clarity and is dynamic, rich and natural.

“We’re really proud of what we have achieved in 2008 with our market leading mobile music range”, said Ben Padley, Head of Global Music Marketing at Sony Ericsson. “Combining premium design and best-in-class sound quality with super-fast access to a host of digital content whether it be from PlayNow arena or via the web, we really are offering the most feature-rich mobile music experience available today”.

The W705 features the same superior quality sound as the W980 Walkman phone which was rated “best audio experience” in a trial conducted in Germany by TESTfactory. In addition, the device includes popular Walkman features such as the music recognition application TrackID, SensMe, for matching your mood to the music and Shake control to change tracks with the flick of your hand.

Also available on the W705 is PlayNow arena which provides a full range of mobile entertainment, such as unique themes and wallpapers, ringtones, a wealth of free content and of course DRM-free music tracks and TrackID charts from around the world.

The W705 was designed to be much more than just a music phone. It features an exclusive metal finish that combines with a large screen in an elegant and compact slider for a professional feel. There’s also a 3.2 megapixel camera which can be used to snap photos of friends and upload them using Wi-Fi to your social networking site for all to see. If you can’t see a site properly, auto rotate between vertical and horizontal mode to view the Internet in all its glory. The device has a 4GB memory card which can store up to 3900 songs.

The Sony Ericsson W705 Walkman Phone will be available in Luxury Silver and Passionate Red in selected markets, starting the first quarter of 2009. There is no word yet on pricing.

PlayNow Plus, Sony Ericsson’s music service, goes live

Alongside the W902 plus (in the picture above) Sony Ericsson has officially launched its anticipated PlayNow Plus music service, which is currently available only for Telenor users in Sweden, but we suspect that more carriers (and compatible handsets) will be added on in due time. PlayNow Plus is a direct competitor of Nokia’s Comes with music service, but this one has been launched a little bit later than Nokia’s service.

Announced back in September, the PlayNow Plus will offer users the ultimate mobile music experience with the freedom to discover, download, play and recommend unlimited amounts of music wherever they are and wherever they like, directly over the mobile data network.

PlayNow Plus is due to set a new standard for the unlimited music experience on a mobile with unrivalled download speeds, high-quality audio and access to the largest music catalogue of any unlimited download service. In addition, Sony Ericsson’s PlayNow Plus music service guarantees unlimited access to millions of music tracks.

A very important thing is the fact that the service is very easy to use and provides millions of songs that can be available on your PC or phone at the click of a button. There is no need for cables, as PlayNow Plus offers simplicity and a great out of box experience with 1000 of the best selling songs already in the phone. You can also keep your most-played music tracks at the end of your contract to play whenever you like or whatever MP3 compatible player you have. On the other hand, you can create your own profile, recommend your music to your PlayNow Plus friends and catch up on the latest music news with direct links to artists and their songs. To add to the discovery and community aspects of PlayNow Plus, TrackID charts, generated by Sony Ericsson consumers around the world, are also included.

Leonard Hoornik, Corporate Vice President and Head of Marketing at Sony Ericsson, said that “all mobile consumers want to have content on their phone, but many find the experience difficult, slow and time consuming”. “With PlayNow Plus, there will be no more barriers, we’re giving consumers the freedom to instantly discover, download, play and recommend all the music they want – anytime, anywhere”, he added.

Actually, Sony Ericsson has released W902 plus which is basically W902 with preloaded application PlayNow Plus. At this moment, the company is planning to bring more preloaded handsets for its service and at the same time partner carriers for this service.

Say hello to the new Vertu Ascent Ti Ferrari Edition

Lovers of luxury handsets and Ferrari fans might be interested in the new limited edition high-priced mobile phones launched by Vertu, the British-based manufacturer and retailer of luxury mobile phones. This time, the company teamed up with Ferrari to bring forth the Ascent Ti Collection. We last witnessed their collaboration a year and a half ago, when the Ascent Ferrari 1947 product line was brought to light, which was meant to celebrate the car’s 60th anniversary.

Vertu, Nokia’s subsidiary specializing in luxury phones, has launched specs on its website about the Ti. The new Ferrari Ascent Ti will be available in three colors: Black, Red and Yellow (Nero, Roso and Giallo), all with the Ferrari logo embedded. The Vertu “V” logo is complemented by the famous Ferrari Cavallino, that appears on the front and back of the phone. The handset has been manufactured from the same Titanium alloy, forged at 850 degrees, which gives the phone almost infinite sturdiness, but also rather heavy weight (160 grams including battery).

As all the other phones made by Vertu, there’s a sapphire crystal mix that protects the screen, camera lens and flash. The battery cover of the phone has been shaped as a Ferrari hood, and the 3D prancing horse emblem has been etched on it. Each handset will feature stainless steel keys and a scratch proof PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition).

In addition, the phone is provided with Ferrari themed features such as engine sounds from the F430 and 612 Scaglietti for ringtones and Ferrari themed wallpapers. Other features of the luxurious phone may include: Bluetooth 2.0, microUSB connection, a 3 megapixel camera with auto-focus and integrated flash, 4 GB internal memory, Vertu Fortress Wireless data synchronization service and WorldMate travel application. The Ascent Ti Ferrari features also quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) support, in addition to UMTS (2100 MHz) support for worldwide connectivity.

The official autonomy of its battery estimates five hours for GSM talk time and three hours for WCDMA, and up to 300 hours of standby time. The handset is to be launched until the end of this year and there is no word on the price yet. But if the standard Ascent Ti model sells for around $6,600, we can certainly expect the Ferrari Ascent Ti collection to cost more than that.

Dual SIM XH-M025 TV Mobile Phone

Being targeted to all of you out there who are business people and music lovers, the Dual SIM XH-M025 TV mobile phone is a device which looks actually awkward. The guys behind its design came up with a very weird-looking mobile phone, having the form factor somehow inspired by Nokia, but it’s nowhere close to Nokia’s creations. Even if this phone is good enough to compete - successfully - with other devices for the weirdest ever TV mobile phone created, the long list of technical specifications might impress you instead.

But the XH-M025 really knows how to work it. The two SIM cards are simultaneously active for your call needs, whether they’re for business or personal purposes. In addition, there are not two, but three loudspeakers in the back: two 2030 speakers plus one 20 shaking speakers. The phone is also provided with a 3-inch touchscreen with Touch Lens LCD / 2.8-inch with Touch Panel LCD, Bluetooth, FM Radio with double camera with 3.0-inch display and two 300K pixel CMOS resolutions digital cameras (can update to 1.3 megapixel resolutions digital camera) each in frond and back side.

As far as the frequency is concerned, there’s a GSM900 / DCS1800 auto shift (900/1800 or 900/1900 optional). The internal memory supported is of 1GB, while there’s also a possibility for you to expand the capacity storage through a flash card. The 1500mAh Li-Ion battery provides a talk time of up to four hours.

The package includes the battery, the charger, a headset, data cable, T-flash, stylus and an user manual. There is no word on price and availability yet.
