Nokia 9300

Nokia is the world leader in mobile communications, driving the growth and sustainability of the broader mobility industry. Nokia helps people communicate with one another and it offers easy to use and innovative products like mobile phones, devices and solutions for imaging, games, media and businesses. A new model of cell phone which is designed especially for business people is the Nokia 9300.

The Nokia 9300 has a resistant plastic wide clamshell case which comes painted in silver. With 133 x 51 x 22 mm in dimensions and 169 grams in weight, it is the slimmest Communicator handset which Nokia ever made. If you look at phone, it’s seems like a regular cell phone. On the front side it has a 128 x 128 pixels TFT display which supports 65K colors, two soft keys, a D-Pad controller and a spacious and large numeric keypad. The keys have a great silver finish so you will feel comfortable typing on them. Because the Nokia 9300 lacks external an external volume rocker or other buttons, on the sides you will find only an Infrared port and a USB port.

When the phone is closed, it looks exactly like a large regular phone, but if you open it, you will be surprised. The Nokia 9300 comes with a 4.0 inches TFT display with a native resolution of 640 x 200 pixels. Supporting 65K colors, this beautiful display will offer you great colors with a good balance between contrast and brightness. This wide-screen format is excellent for you to surf on the internet, watch movies or write documents.

But that is not all. Being a Communicator handset, it comes with a full-QWERTY keyboard. With flat and large keys you can easily write emails or other documents but because these keys are a bit piled, you will need some time to get used to them. The keys are very responsive and offer a comfortable typing experience.  The shortcut keys like Desk, Telephone, Messaging, Web, Contacts, Documents, Calendar and My Own plus four keys which are positioned along of display and a thumb-stick directional controller will help you by making your job a lot easier.

Being a business handset, The Nokia 9300 don’t have many multimedia features.  Even if this cell phone is compatible with MPEG4 and 3GPP video formats, it doesn’t have an integrated camera for taking pictures or record clips. Because it is compatible with RealPlayer, it supports many music formats like MP3, MP4, RA and MIDI.  Powered by a TI OMAP 1510 150 MHz processor this handset runs the Symbian OS v7.0s without any lag or other problems. The internal memory has 80 MB of free space for your files but thanks to the MMC card slot, you can extent it to a maximum 4 GB.

In terms of connectivity, the Nokia 9300 is a Tri-Band (GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) device which has the classic GPRS and EDGE data features. Other connectivity features which are present there are Bluetooth 2.0, Infrared and Pop-Port USB. A negative aspect for a Communicator handset like this is that the Nokia 9300 lacks Wireless, 3G and GPS features. The external speaker is great. It produces clear sound with a loud volume. In the standard package, this cell phone comes with a mono headphone but if you want to listen to music with more bass or better sound quality you can buy another set of headphones and attach them to your Nokia.

The Li-Po 970 mAh battery is capable of keeping this cell phone on for 4 hours of conversation and up to 200 hours in standby mode. These values are not the best for a Communicator handset but you can buy a secondary battery and increase cell phone’s life. For a price of $144 you certainly won’t receive a very powerful and high-end technology cell phone, but the Nokia 9300 will satisfy your needs if you are looking for a practical cell phone.

N97 Nokia

Finally, the most awaited N97 Nokia cell phone has been launched. Being one of the principal rivals of iPhone, it has a lot of high-end technology features and a great aspect. The N97 Nokia has a resistant plastic slide-out case and it’s available in two classic colors: black and white. Similar with first HTC Pocket smartphones launched in 2006, the Nokia N97 has a full-QWERTY keyboard.

The case measures 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9 mm in dimensions and has 150 grams in weight. It is not very slim and light, but having a lot of features, these dimensions will not be a problem for you.  When you slide the phone, the screen becomes almost perpendicular to the keyboard, making it very easy to read, exactly like a book. Nokia N97 doesn’t have many external buttons, so you will find only the usual keys which you can find on other Nokia models.

On the top-left of the screen you will find a secondary camera for video calls which can be also used to take photos at a low resolution. On the top-right of the screen you will find an ambient light sensor and a proximity sensor which adjusts the screen light when it detect that you put the ear. At the bottom of the screen you will find a special metal key placed diagonally which opens the phone’s main menu. There are also the usual Accept and Reject call keys, both showing and operating as touch keys. On the sides you will find a miniUSB port (which allows you to charge the phone or synchronize it with a PC), a volume rocker, a camera shutter, a 3.5 mm jack and the Power On/off button.

The QWERTY keyboard has 33 keys and it is very receptive. The keys are large, flat, with enough space between them so you can write easily on them. If you feel more comfortable, there also is a stylus pen which will give you more accuracy. The 3.5 inch touch screen is very impressive. Having a native resolution of 360 x 640 pixels and supporting 16 million colors, you will receive excellent images with a great quality and contrast. Like a high end smartphone, The Nokia N97 has several features like accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn-off and handwriting recognition which make this cell phone easy to use.

On the back, it has a 5 Megapixel camera which can take photos at a maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels and record clips at a speed of 30 fps. Even if it lacks smile detection, face recognition, it has many other features like Carl Zeiss lens, auto-focus, Bi-LED flash, supplementary light for video mode and geotagging which will help you take excellent quality photos.

The Nokia N97 is a Quad-Band (GSM / HSDPA / GPRS / 3G 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100) device powered by an ARM 11 434 MHz processor, so you will not find any lag when you use it. For connectivity it also has Wi-Fi, USB, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS and TV-Out. The internal memory capacity is huge: 32 GB of free space. This amount of space will be enough for you to store your music, photo and movies but if you want more, you can extend it with a maximum 16 GB with a microSD card. The external speaker and the media player (which supports many music and video formats) has a loud volume and produces a clear sound.

The N97 Nokia cell phone has a Li-Ion 1500 mAh standard battery which is capable of keeping it on for 6 hours of conversation and up to 408 hours in standby mode. These values are excellent for a smartphone with a lot of high-end features like the Nokia N97. With all these, this cell phone certainly is a strong rival for iPhone. With a price of $607 (a price which seems to cover all the technology used on it) the Nokia N97 is one of the best smartphones on the market.

Sony Ericsson Cybershot

Sony Ericsson CyberShot cell phones are recognized as the best camera cell phones having one of the most powerful and high-end technology cameras in the entire world. Having a lot of models with an integrated 3.2 Megapixels CyberShot camera, Sony Ericsson thought that it is time for a change. So, they created the first handset which comes with an integrated 8 Megapixel CyberShot camera.

The C905 Sony Ericsson CyberShot cell phone has a cage made of resistant plastic with rounded edges. Being painted in matte black, it is also very pleasant to the touch. Having 104 x 49 x 18 mm in dimensions and 136 grams in weight, it is not one of the slimmest and lightest cell phones around, but it is very similar to the Nokia N81. The front panel is the latest trend which Sony Ericsson launched. Above the display you will find two shortcut keys (one allows you to open the image gallery and the other to see the last photos that you took).

The keypad is also very pleasant to use. The keys are flat, large with enough space between them offering a great touch orientation and tactility, so you will feel comfortable writing on it. On the left side you will find only the Memory Stick Micro (M2) card slot and a Fast port which allows you to charge the mobile phone or connect it to a PC.  On the right, it has a camera shutter, a volume rocker and two camera function keys (the first one switches between camera and camcorder and the second opens the last photo that you taken).

The 2.4 inches TFT display has a native resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and it supports 256K colors. The Sony Ericsson C905 is capable of offering you the best quality pictures with a great combination between contrast and brightness. For a maximum of quality, the Sony Ericsson C905 has an Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate which will change automatically the image between normal to landscape mode.

Let’s talk about the most important aspect: the 8 Megapixels camera. As we said, the Sony Ericsson C905 is the first cell phone which features an integrated 8 Megapixels CyberShot camera. It is capable of taking  photos at a maximum resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels and recording clips at a speed of 30 fps. Being the best camera, it has also many technology features like autofocus, face and smile detection, xenon flash, smart contrast, image stabilization, video light, video microphone, digital stabilization and geo-tagging.

The Sony Ericsson C905 is a Quad-Band (GSM / EDGE 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100) device with UMTS and HSDPA support. For connectivity, it has Bluetooth 2.0, USB, GPS, Wi-Fi, TV-out and a Memory Stick Micro card slot. The internal memory has only 160 MB but you can extend it to a maximum of 8 GB with a M2 card. The music player and the external speaker will allow you to listen to music at good volume levels and great quality. There is also a FM Radio with RDS but it works only with headphones attached.

The 930 mAh BST-38 Li-Po battery is capable of keeping this Sony Ericsson CyberShot cell phone on for 4 hours on conversation (3G) and up to 360 hours in standby mode (3G). With such a lot of technology and features, the Sony Ericsson C905 can be an excellent choice for you. With a price of $399, it may not be affordable for everyone, but if you want a high-end cell phone we recommend you buy it.

Sony Ericsson Z500a

The Sony Ericsson Z500a is another cell phone with great aspect, a lot of features and a low price, made by Sony Ericsson. Being an entry-level camera phone, it has many features but most of them are classic for a mobile phone in our days. The Sony Ericsson Z500a has a resistant plastic case with an attractive design. In standard, it comes painted in blue and silver but the phone cover can be replaced by another of a different color.

Having 93 x 49 x 24 mm in dimensions and 110 grams in weight, it is certainly a light and slim phone and it feels great in your hands or pocket.  On the front side you will see an external display (which supports 4096 colors) and above it, a camera. On the left and right side you will find the camera shutter, two volume buttons and a charger port (which can be used for attaching headphones or connect the phone to a PC with a USB cable).

If you open the phone, you will find a 1.8 inch display with a native resolution of 128 x 160 pixels.  Even if this display supports 65K colors, it is still one of the cheapest displays which Sony Ericsson has ever used. The images have good quality but you will not see vibrant colors like on the other similar cell phones. And probably the most negative aspect is that this phone doesn’t have a TFT display, so if you are under direct sunlight, there is a pretty good chance you won’t be able to read anything on the screen.

For menu navigation, the Sony Ericsson Z500a has a 5-way controller (including an OK button), two soft buttons, a Back and a Clear key. With these, you can easily navigate in the menu even if you have large hands. The keypad is also very nice. With large keys and enough space between them, a positive feedback and an attractive silver finish you will feel very comfortable typing on this cell phone’s keys.

The Sony Ericsson Z500a has a 0.3 Megapixel camera (VGA) which can take photos at a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels.  This is another negative aspect because almost all cell phones, in our days, have at least a 1.3 Megapixels camera. Lacking a flash or light assist, this camera is recommended to be used only in good light conditions. The external speaker is pretty ok. It produces clear sounds with loud volume levels. If you want to listen to music, this cell phone supports MP3, polyphonic and MIDI formats. But with only 6 MB of free space, it certainly will not replace your MP3 player. Lacking a card slot, you will be able to keep only several photos and maybe, a song.

Being an entry-level mobile phone, the Sony Ericsson Z500a lacks maybe one of the most important features: Bluetooth. Without that and even an infrared port, you can transfer files from this cell phone only with a USB cable or via email. The LI-Ion battery is capable of keeping this cell phone up for 6 hours of conversation and 260 hours in standby mode. Anyway, for a price of $70 you could say it makes a good average phone for people that are on a budget.

BlackBerry 9630 Verizon

Featuring an updated user interface which offers you an easy navigation of menu, you will feel very comfortable using it.  On the back side you will discover a 3.2 Megapixel camera which can take photos at a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. This camera, which has several features like flash, autofocus, image stabilization, red-eye reduction and 2x digital zoom, allows you to take photos or record clips with a good quality of images.

Similar to the BlackBerry Curve 8900 and BlackBerry Bold, the BlackBerry 9630 Verizon is a Quad-Band (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) device supporting Dual-Band CDMA, GPRS, EDGE, GSM, 3G, HSPA and UMTS networks. Even if it lacks Wi-Fi connectivity feature, it has many cool features, like Bluetooth 2.0, microUSB, serial port, dial-up networking , which will keep you in touch every time.

For only $9.99 you can subscribe to a Verzion location-based service and you will be able to use a real-time voice-guided assistance.  The external speaker is excellent. It produces a clear sound with a loud volume. The pre-installed Media Player support various video and music formats, including MPEG4, H.264, WMV (for movies) and MP3, AAC, AAC+ and WMA (for music). For a clearer and louder sound, it allows you to boost bass and treble.

Powered by a 528MHz Qualcomm processor, the BlackBerry 9630 Verizon is a fast device. It will keep up with your day-to-day demands without signs of lag or delays. The internal memory of 256 MB has proven to be a bit small for this smartphone, so thanks to the microSD card slot, you can extend it up to 16 GB. The 1400 mAh Li-Ion battery is capable of keeping this smartphone on for 5 hours of conversations and 14 days in standby mode. With many useful features and a lot of technology, this is one of the best smartphones and with a price of $199 it’s safe to say that most people can afford one.
