Palm Smartphone

Everybody knows that the iPhone has made a great impression on the market attracting the customer’s attention. Launched at CES 2009, the Palm Pre has quickly become a strong rival for the iPhone. Equipped with a multi-touch screen, a physical keyboard, multitasking features and many others, it’s clear why this Palm smartphone is the strongest rival of the iPhone.

In terms of design, the Palm Pre looks very simple. It has a slider case, with rounded edges, painted in a pleasant glossy black. Even if this design and this color gives the phone a business aspect, this Palm smartphone is dedicated for all kinds of users, no matter if they are business people or not. With 100.5 x 59.5 x 16.9 mm in dimensions and 133 grams in weight, this cell phone seems to be a bit too big for a slider handset, but when you hold it in your hands you will notice that it is very comfortable and very practical.

As we said, the Palm Pre comes with a multi-touch display which occupies almost the entire front side, leaving space only for a control button (similar to a trackball). To keep a simple design, the Palm Pre comes with a minimum of external controls. So, on the sides you will find only a Power On / off button, a Mute button, a 3.5 mm jack a volume rocker and a microUSB port. On the back, this Palm smartphone comes with a camera, a flash, a speaker and a removable battery.

Enough about design, let’s talk a bit about technology. As you already know, all top-rated smartphones have a QWERTY keyboard.  The Palm Pre comes with a tiny QWERTY keyboard, which will satisfy your writing needs. The small buttons may be a problem for you but if you will practice several days on them, you will be able to write texts easily. You will observe that these keys are very responsive and fell graet to the touch.

The Palm Pre, as we said, comes equipped with a 3.1 inches TFT capacitive touch screen with multi-touch feature. It has a native resolution of 320 x 480 pixels and supports 16 million colors. Even if this display is smaller than the iPhone’s, the images are clear with sharp colors and good contrast and brightness, in one word: amazing. It also has features like proximity sensor (automatically switches off the backlight if you put the handset on your ear) and build-in accelerometer (changes the screen orientation between portrait to landscape when viewing photos, web pages or videos). For taking photos, this Palm smartphone comes with a somehow mediocre camera for a top-rated handset. With a 3.15 Megapixel sensor, enhanced fixed focus and LED flash, this camera allows you to take good quality photos. Why is this camera mediocre? Well, the images quality is poor and it lacks video mode (so you will not record clips).

Connectivity is another strong point of the Palm Pre. Being a Quad-Band device you will not have problems with the network area coverage. Other connectivity features which come with this Palm smartphone are 3G, Wi-Fi, Infrared, Bluetooth, microUSB and GPS. The Palm Pre, equipped with all this performance and technology is available on the market at a price of $199, a price which makes it very popular among those people who want a practical handset with a nice business aspect.
