PlayNow Plus, Sony Ericsson’s music service, goes live

Alongside the W902 plus (in the picture above) Sony Ericsson has officially launched its anticipated PlayNow Plus music service, which is currently available only for Telenor users in Sweden, but we suspect that more carriers (and compatible handsets) will be added on in due time. PlayNow Plus is a direct competitor of Nokia’s Comes with music service, but this one has been launched a little bit later than Nokia’s service.

Announced back in September, the PlayNow Plus will offer users the ultimate mobile music experience with the freedom to discover, download, play and recommend unlimited amounts of music wherever they are and wherever they like, directly over the mobile data network.

PlayNow Plus is due to set a new standard for the unlimited music experience on a mobile with unrivalled download speeds, high-quality audio and access to the largest music catalogue of any unlimited download service. In addition, Sony Ericsson’s PlayNow Plus music service guarantees unlimited access to millions of music tracks.

A very important thing is the fact that the service is very easy to use and provides millions of songs that can be available on your PC or phone at the click of a button. There is no need for cables, as PlayNow Plus offers simplicity and a great out of box experience with 1000 of the best selling songs already in the phone. You can also keep your most-played music tracks at the end of your contract to play whenever you like or whatever MP3 compatible player you have. On the other hand, you can create your own profile, recommend your music to your PlayNow Plus friends and catch up on the latest music news with direct links to artists and their songs. To add to the discovery and community aspects of PlayNow Plus, TrackID charts, generated by Sony Ericsson consumers around the world, are also included.

Leonard Hoornik, Corporate Vice President and Head of Marketing at Sony Ericsson, said that “all mobile consumers want to have content on their phone, but many find the experience difficult, slow and time consuming”. “With PlayNow Plus, there will be no more barriers, we’re giving consumers the freedom to instantly discover, download, play and recommend all the music they want – anytime, anywhere”, he added.

Actually, Sony Ericsson has released W902 plus which is basically W902 with preloaded application PlayNow Plus. At this moment, the company is planning to bring more preloaded handsets for its service and at the same time partner carriers for this service.
