Review: Sagem my700x, for the lady in your life

Sagem my700x PhoneFrom the front, the my700x closely resembles Sagem’s recent my300/400 series of candybar phones, but differentiates itself with a new keyboard design motif.

The five-way navigation pad and middle row numbers – 2, 5, 8 and 0 – are encapsulated in a circular repeated pattern. While the keypad design hints at a new direction, the my700x’s real personality is revealed on the back, where a floral motif gives away its girly fashion aspirations.

3g.co.uk made a review of this phone and here are some of their impressions. The handset arrives in two colour schemes: white/pink and chocolate/turquoise, and each model brandishes a unique floral tattoo.

Looking at the two handsets, the dark brown version wins out for its more ornate pattern but you get the feeling that Sagem has just half-heartedly stencilled in a floral design at the last minute. The my700x doesn’t really scream chic or carry any fashion sense. Also, the phone’s rigid candybar form doesn’t really pamper to the fairer sex’s sense of adventure.

Despite the fashion faux pas, the my700x is actually a solid handset that’s nice to handle with a decent set of mid-range features. The built-in music player sounds surprisingly warm through the bundled earphones but can distort if you push the volume, while you can tamper with the sound via equaliser settings. Similarly, the 1.3 megapixel lens is a tad hit and miss, displaying signs of keen detail and focus but prone to over-exposure. At this level the quality is decent enough for fun and frolics.

Sagem hasn’t really taken too much of a risk with the my700x. Compare it with other floral handsets like the new BenQ-Siemens EF71 Mia and the recent Nokia L’Amour range and its flower power wilts in their presence.
