Mobile phones users’ expectations from technology grow each day and until now, the professional built-in 5MP camera was the maximum they could get.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics has launched the first CMOS photo sensor of 8MP and a resolution of 3264×2444 for mobiles, which can produce clear 300 dpi picture output.
It will be mounted on mechanical shutter and will provide advanced functions such as autofocus, red eye removal, backlight correction, facial recognition, or anti-shake technology.

The camera’s size has the same dimension as a 3.2MP camera but although the new models will be available very soon for mobile manufacturers, only the wider phone models will be capable of incorporating such a camera, because of the capsule dimensions of 10.5x11.5x9.4 mm.

Rumors say that we’ll all see the new phones with such a camera in the summer 2008.
