Shuttle – New Virgin Mobile Cell Phones

Starting September 28 you’ll find this new stylish S-curve slider cell phone from Virgin Mobile available exclusively at http://www.bestbuy.com/ BestBuy.com with support for the Evolution-Data Optimized technology.
Shuttle, the new Virgin Mobile cell phones launched after the successful Helio, are the company’s first EV-DO enabled handsets and feature access to social networks such as Accuweather, ESPN, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and Yahoo!, as well as the uLocate service support with Buddy Beacon and Where. Buddy Beacon finds your friends and shows you where they are and what they are doing, while Where provides local information about places of interest and lowest services prices in the area.

"With the Helio acquisition and the new Shuttle, we've made a strong move into 3G, satisfying our customers who want the speed and affordability, while greatly enhancing our handset line-up just in time for the holidays," said Bob Stohrer, Virgin Mobile USA's Chief Marketing Officer. The data rate is of 3.1 Mbit/s, which allows you to download things and browse the web at fast speeds.
In addition, the 3.9 x 1.9 x 0.7-inch handset has a built-in 1.3MP camera with video recording capability, a large 2-inch display, music/video playback, stereo Bluetooth, SD card support to expand storage, video messaging, games, Real Music animated tones, 500 phone book entries, 235 minutes talk time and 2 weeks of standby.

"Virgin Mobile USA is a natural fit for the handset, especially considering their game-changing commitment to innovation, service and value," said Philip Christopher, President, PCD. "The Shuttle is the latest in a long line of PCD offerings that deliver on that commitment, a tremendous and affordable device that will surprise and delight discerning Virgin Mobile USA consumers, just in time for the holidays."

Don't waste your money on this phone. The battery lasts about 2 days if you don't use the phone at all. Less than a day if you make a few calls. Listening to music or watching a video will kill the battery in less than 2 hours. 3.1 mbit is the fastest the phone can download, but it rarely gets to a third of that speed. It might as well be a non-3G phone for all it's worth. Poorly designed, overly sensitive touch keys that love to erase your text messages as you are entering them. T9 text has no 'learn' capability so you'll be switching to 'ABC' mode ALL the time. Finally, the phone locks up about 33% of the time when you answer a call, requiring you to remove the battery in order to be able to use the phone again. All the same problems with the three replacement phones I received under warranty. Again, don't waste your money. The X-TC is probably a better phone.
