Solar powered cell phone from Samsung
Posted by: Maria Mihale in Samsung
Back in February there were some rumors circulating over the Internet telling us about the desire Samsung had at that point to enter the eco-friendly party, joining forces with other important companies in the fight against those who don’t give a damn on the environment.
I don’t know how useful these rumors are, because I haven’t yet seen what was supposed to be the first solar powered cell phone designed by Samsung. Its name was Blue Earth and it’s still a concept, I suppose, because I haven’t heard of it since the day the rumor started to spread worldwide.

However, it seems that the first green cell phone that will be commercially available is the so called E1107 Crest Solar. The candybar is part of the low-end line-up developed by the company and is aimed at the emerging markets.
The 800 mAh battery the phone is provided with can be charged in two different ways: the usual way, which you all know very well, and with the help of a solar panel placed on the back case. Charging it for about one hour with solar light, the battery will last approximately 5 minutes, no more than ten of extra talk time.
The features of the device include: dual band GSM connectivity (900/1800 MHz), a 1.52 inch CSTN display 65k colors and a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels, Mobile Tracker, FM radio, MP3 ringtones and an integrated flashlight.
As for the availability, the Samsung E1107 Crest Solar is expected to start selling sometime during this month, in countries from Southeast and Southwest Asia, from Europe also and Latin America. It seems that the phone was baptized Solar Guru for the Indian market, where it can be found for a price of $59 (unlocked).
