Sony Ericsson G705

Intended for the mid-end market, Sony Ericsson G705 was first unveiled in July, for it to be announced a couple of months later, more precisely in September. There’ no doubt about the fact that the device looks good and that is equipped with some pretty nice features, but it should not be mistaken with the Sony Ericsson W705, because the G705 is not a walkman phone.

This elegant slider phone features a large 2.4-inch screen and gives users the possibility to surf the Internet at high speed with turbo 3G and its full HTML browser. The only thing you should do is to just use the shortcut key which gets you straight to Google search from the idle screen. If the page is too small, you have two options: you can use the illuminated zoom web shortcut key or tilt the phone, to automatically switch to landscape view.

“The G705 is ideal for those who need a bit of help organizing their busy life”, said Catherine Cherry, Global product marketing manager at Sony Ericsson. “This life-enhancing phone has everything you need to keep track to stay fully up-to-date thanks to the full HTML browser, email support and desktop RSS feeds – all delivered at turbo 3G speed”.

If you’re the type of guy who enjoys being always updated with the information that he considers to be important for him and who eats RSS feeds at breakfast, then let me tell you that the G705 is perfect for you, as it delivers your feeds straight to your phone’s desktop. It doesn’t matter if you’re interested in sport scores or news from around the world, you’ll be the first to know what happens and where. In addition, there’s a 3.2 megapixel camera which has video capabilities; but the story doesn’t end here: you’ll be able to upload your favorite moments straight to the web and share them with friends.

If you have some free tome to relax a bit, use the phone’s Wi-Fi connection to upload pictures, create a picture blog or download music and videos from your favorite web sites. You can entertain people around you with images that are stored on the 1GB memory card or you can take a short break and listen to your favorite music through the integrated FM radio.

If you have some troubles with finding your way to different places, then the in-built GPS is exactly what you need, in combination with Google Maps for Mobile and Wayfinder navigations. This way you will never find yourself in the position of having to ask for directions again.

In the same day when this device was unveiled, Sony Ericsson also announced a partnership with Google concerning the fact that YouTube will be integrated into various Sony Ericsson models that will see the light of the day in the near future. This capability will allow users to instantly download and upload video directly from their phone to YouTube. The G705 will be compatible with YouTube; as far as further models are concerned, they will be announced when the time comes.

So, to sum up, let’s what key features the Sony Ericsson G705 include: GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSDPA 2100 support, GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSUPA 850/1900/2100 support for US edition, 3.2 megapixel camera, up to 3.2x digital zoom, GPS receiver with A-GPS support, Wi-Fi connectivity with DLNA certification, an integrated accelerometer, stereo Bluetooth, USB support, FM radio with RDS, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync support, 1GB M2 memory card.

Measuring 95 x 47 x 14.3 millimeters and weighing 98 grams, the device will be available in Silky Gold and Majestic Black, offering up to 400 hours of standby time GSM/GPRS and up to 4 hours of talk time UMTS. Sony Ericsson G705 will be available in selected markets from early Q4, while the similar device for American markets will go on sale starting early Q1 2009.
