A brand new product was announced yesterday by Sony Ericsson, under the name of W705 Walkman phone, which is designed to bring a mixture of wireless connectivity and the company’s best-in-class audio experience. And what better occasion for a device to be unveiled than the MTV Europe Music Awards, were the company is one of the main sponsors? As you can figure it out for yourselves, this product was chosen by Sony Ericsson to be its statement concerning the commitment to provide consumers with the ultimate mobile entertainment experience.
The best entertaining activity that one can have these days is “stumbling†YouTube for the songs they most love and for video clips they adore. Now, using Wi-Fi to connect to broadband hot spots, consumers can go online with their W705 and they can also stream tunes wirelessly to the stylish MBS-900 speaker via Bluetooth (the MBS-900 is a wireless home audio system which was also launched yesterday). In addition, the phone is equipped with Clear Bass, Clear Stereo and premium headphones, which is the perfect way when you’re trying to deliver the consumer the best audio experience.

“We’re really proud of what we have achieved in 2008 with our market leading mobile music rangeâ€, said Ben Padley, Head of Global Music Marketing at Sony Ericsson. “Combining premium design and best-in-class sound quality with super-fast access to a host of digital content whether it be from PlayNow arena or via the web, we really are offering the most feature-rich mobile music experience available todayâ€.
The W705 features the same superior quality sound as the W980 Walkman phone which was rated “best audio experience†in a trial conducted in Germany by TESTfactory. In addition, the device includes popular Walkman features such as the music recognition application TrackID, SensMe, for matching your mood to the music and Shake control to change tracks with the flick of your hand.
Another feature available on the W705 is PlayNow arena. If you don’t know what this is, let me tell you that it provides a full range of mobile entertainment from unique themes and wallpapers, to ringtones, free content or DRM-free music tracks and TrackID charts from all over the world.
The W705 was designed to be much more than just a music phone. It features an exclusive metal finish that combines with a large screen. In addition, the phone comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, so that you can upload the photos you take to social networking sites, an auto rotate between vertical and horizontal, so that you see the sites properly and a 4GB memory card that can store up to 3900 songs.
The Sony Ericsson W705 Walkman Phone will be available in Luxury Silver and Passionate Red in selected markets, starting the first quarter of 2009. There is no word yet on pricing.
