Sony Ericsson Walkman Phone

When it comes to music phones, only one thing comes in our mind: Walkman. Being a large range of mobile phones designed by Sony Ericsson, these Walkman mobile phones are recognized as being the most powerful and well-equipped music phones on the market. For this review we choose a low-price Sony Ericsson Walkman phone, the Sony Ericsson W610. This mobile phone comes with all you need to listen to the loudest and clearest music ever heard. If you decide to buy it, you need to know that in the retail package, besides the handset, you will receive a charger, a USB cable, special Walkman headphones, a Memory Stick Micro (M2) 512 MB card and some manuals. Yes, the package seems to be too rich for a low-price cell phone, but Sony Ericsson always wanted the customers to be more than satisfied.
In terms of design, the Sony Ericsson W610 comes like a classic candy-bar unit, with a case made of resistant plastic, covered in a classic Walkman combination of colors (Black and Orange). The case has rounded edges and great dimensions (102 x 46 x 14 mm in dimension and 95 grams in weight), aspects which make the phone feel very comfortable in our hands. The front side of the phone looks nice. There you will find a standard display and below it, a large numerical pad. This numerical pad, even if it seems to be large, is composed by thin keys, properly delimited and very responsive. Anyway, there can be a problem for those users which have thick fingers because it’s easy to press two keys at once. Between the display and numerical pad are placed several Walkman navigation buttons. There you will notice two soft keys, a back key, a clear button, and a Walkman special button, a 4-way directional button with a Play/Pause center key and a shortcut button. On right side of the phone you can see two volume keys and a camera shutter while on the left side you can notice a Play/Stop Walkman button, a memory card slot and a Pop-port for charging, attaching headphones or connecting the phone to a PC via USB.

If you are interested in performance, we need to inform you that the W610 is a mid-level cell phone, so you can’t expect to get many powerful features from it. The display used on this Sony Ericsson Walkman phone is a 1.96 TFD one with a native resolution of 176 x 220 pixels and support for 256K colors. Even if it seems to be quite poor, this display offers great quality images with sharp colors and clear details. If you want to take some photos, the W610 comes equipped with a 2 Megapixel camera, placed on the back side. This camera, being armed with autofocus and LED flash, is capable of taking good quality photos in any environment conditions.

The internal memory, an important aspect for a music phone offers only 64 MB of free space but thanks to the M2 card slot, you can extend it up to 2 GB. For connectivity, this mid-level phone offers GSM, GPRS and EDGE support plus other important features like Bluetooth, USB and Infrared. The battery life of the phone is assured by a Li-Pol 950 mAh battery which manages to keep the unit on for 7 hours of conversations and up to 350 hours in standby mode.
