Sony Ericsson X1 Reviews

A lot of fuss has been made about Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 and it’s finally arrived. It features a customizable interface, Windows Mobile device and a full QWERTY keyboard, all that a real smartphone needs.
Unfortunately, if you want the unlocked version you will have to reach a large amount of money out of your pocket as it doesn’t come cheap at all ($799.99). Everybody waited for this phone and now they have a chance to test it for themselves as being the recent released smartphone from Sony Ericsson.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 doesn’t feel bulky at all, even though it has a slide-out keyboard. It measures just 4.4 inches tall by 2.1 inches wide by 0.7 inch deep and weights 5.6 ounces. It is both compact and solid constructed. You can choose from different colors including black or grey. It is a cool gadget and Sony Ericsson has devoted a lot of time in giving us this smartphone. The touch screen has 3” and displays 65.536 colors at an 800x480 resolution. Having such a sharp resolution, colors look great and text as well. You can customize the phone and choose from nine different panels. There are seven panels, which come pre-loaded on the phone and they are: Microsoft Today, Sony Ericsson, Google, 3D Fish, Xperia Radio, and Media Xperience. The 3D Fish is something new, basically it shows time and date and then three or four fish appear showing different types of notifications. For example some of the fish turn in different colors to alert the battery status, while one of them alerts you about missed calls or if you have a new message. It’s really nice but it takes a bit to remember which one does what. You can choose however which widgets you want on the screen. If you’re not satisfied with the seven panels, be free to download others from Sony Ericsson’s website.

Back to technical details, below the screen are some navigation buttons, two soft keys, Talk-End buttons and an X1 panel key, OK button and a joystick with center selection function. The keys are a bit small and hard to press so maybe you’ll leave them out. If you slide the phone to the right, the keyboard comes out, slides out smooth and strong enough so don’t worry is opening too much the keyboard. The phone is a bit curved and holding it in your hands feels more comfortable. When you open the phone it will turn from landscape to portrait. The buttons are nicely spaced and typing messages will turn out to contain minor misspells. On the left side of the phone you will find a mini USB port and on the right side are the volume rocker and the camera shutter. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack and the power button on top of the phone. Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 comes with a 2BG microSD card slot and an USB cable.

It runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition and for the web browser you get Opera Mobile in addition to the existing Internet Explorer Mobile. Both of them work great and navigating through e-mail and other web pages is done smoothly and fast. It has integrated Wi-Fi and 3G. Also the 3.2-megapixel camera does a great job in taking photos.
