SteamPunk Phone
Posted by: Sierra in Concepts

We’ve discovered it on Concept Phones and found that it is a cell phone concept created for O2 telecommunication company by Arthur Schmitt, a designer from UK, Marek Bereza and Andy Broomfiels, who described it as a model dedicated to Role Playing Gamers.

In order to be able to use the phone you have to insert a paper punchcard with the contact number encoded in binary. The other functionality is the clock.
A credit card sized punchcard has the contact’s number encoded in binary and the VUmeters are in charge with displaying the network coverage and the battery status. Same encoding methods ca be applied to other phone settings.

As you already guessed, SteamPunk phone doesn’t have a display but just the basic phone functionalities: phone, clock, speaker, mic, and alarm.
What do you think?

i want one. i was thinking of changing my old phone to a steampunk contraption. the punchcards would make getting someone's number an interesting experience esp. if you got an antique hole puncher...could be a great way to pick people up.

How beautiful!
I want one too! It's the perfect Gaslamp (steampunk) accessory for a Girl Genius costume!

Thanks for your comments.
The cards would be just standard business cards, maybe with pre-punched holes, so that you can code the number you want to call (in binary), just by poking it with a pen...
