The rugged cell phones day
Posted by: Maria Mihale in Samsung
It seems that this is the day when rugged cell phones decided to invade the market, because, after all, they are not very much into the general attention. This is why they need an approach a little bit “violentâ€, if I may say so, in order to make people aware of the fact that they still exist.
Back in January I was writing about the Samsung B2100, a rugged cell phone that was said to be, at that moment, an improved version of another device, the M110.

The candybar has just been officially announced, but this time it was given a brand new name, besides the B2100. This means you might see this one in the market under the name of Samsung Xplorer. As other rugged cell phones that you already know, the B2100 complies with the Military Standard 810F, a set of rules issued by the United States Army (by the Developmental Test Command, to be more precise). Therefore, the phone is resistant to factors like shock, extreme temperatures and shocks. In addition, it has a IP57 certification, which means it can stay underwater up to 30 minutes, at a depth of no more than 1 meter.
As for the features, here you have the most important of them: quad band GSM connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) with EDGE, an 1.8 inch TFT display with a resolution of 20x160 pixels, an 1.3 megapixel camera with flash and video recording capabilities, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP connectivity, music player, FM radio with RDS, an internal memory of only 7MB and microSD card slot. The phone measures 113 x 49.5 x 17.2 millimeters and weighs 103 grams.

The Samsung B2100 Xplorer is expected to become available in Europe starting next month (meaning April), but the retail price is still unknown, even if in January it was rumored to be sold for no more than 100 Euros.
